Bless you Isaiah. One of my favourite school trips was a tour of war memorials in France and Belgium. It was beautiful seeing all the different ways soldiers deaths were commemorated but also so heartbreaking as there were so many. I tried my best to read all the names i could and put poppies down for the unkown graves. We dropped by a german graveyard and i swept leaves off their headstones. It made me sad to see how run down the german memorial sites were and i can understand why their left in such a bad state but i felt like it was right to clean them up a bit.

In the UK, some of the commonwealth and France, I believe, we have Remembrance/Armistice Day on the 11th of November (the day WWI officially ended for most countries) and also on the closest Sunday to that date. Everyone wears paper poppies, usually red but sometimes white (I wear white, there's a significance to the colour), and a two minute silence at 11am, often preceded by the Last Post. People lay poppy wreaths at war memorials, read poems and lots of other things.
@Cherry-hu4xm5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the whole country does it, including schools. Last year we all wrote the name of a fallen soldier on a poppy and stuck them all over our school.

Last comment I swear: I'd love to see a vlog on camping with a nonverbal autistic child not otherwise physically impaired. I've had this crazy dream of taking my 13yo son on a cross country trip in an RV. PS: we've had two of the same pool. The water is much colder up in PA!
@fatheringautism7 жыл бұрын
+Neil K Not so crazy of an idea I think. We've discussed what the future of the vlog will be as Abigail nears adulthood. I think the future of it is just that. I want her to get out and see the awesome things our country has to offer. I'd say the world but she would likely prefer an RV to a plane.
@kategrammer48237 жыл бұрын
Neil K my brother is verbal but for years we didn't go camping as a family because it was simply to hard to keep him safe and the change triggered meltdowns. Well then dad took him when he was about 8 with a friend's RV, that was a game changer. He had somewhere he felt safe to go when he got overwhelmed. We bought one a few years later and set it up similar to the house. Same colors, same brand of towels, and we used the same bedding for him to cut down on sensory issues. Once we did that he would beg to go camping. Now there's still the issue of the fire and associated insects but it really wasn't much more work than just supervising him in the backyard/park. Hope that helps a bit!

If you're handy with a few tools, or maybe if you know someone who is, you could build Abby the water/sand/activity table! :D combination of a wooden frame and make it to fit some large plastic storage bins for the water side, and for the sand side (some people also use rice) you can just make a wooden box...maybe you've thought of this already but just in case 😉

Remember an e-mail day here in the uk is 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month when the whole country stops and falls into a 2min silence and reflection out of respect of ALL those lost in conflict regardless of what side of it they found themselves on. Late comment, but in Australia, we have ANZAC (Australian, New Zealand Army Corp) Day on April 25 that recognises those who have and have not returned from service overseas. For us it starts with a Dawn Service at 5.30am, where they call any returned servicemen & women present to fall in. Then there's normally a summary of the conflicts that our forces have been involved in, a wreath laying and a prayer by a local minister/priest. Then they play the last post, have the ode of rememberance, a minute's silence followed by the reveille, and then the call for company to fall out. In our town the local RSL does a free breakfast afterwards, with a donation to the local chapter of Legacy (an organisation that looks after war widows and widows of returned servicemen). There are also catholic & protestant church services. At about 8.30 am there's a parade, led by returned servicemen/women or family members wearing their medals on their behalf (on the righthand side of their chest to signify they are wearing those of a loved one, and not their own). The local schools and community groups like scouts will also march in support. After that, there's another service and wreath laying with a guest speaker. About midday the local pubs and clubs will open and a lot of people will have a beer (or 3 or 4), and play 2-up, which is a betting game played by ANZACS in ww1. Not everyone attends the dawn service, but once our children reached school age, I've always taken them, as I feel it's important to learn that the sacrifice of a few hours sleep to pay our respects is nothing in comparison to what others have gone through, and it's due to this sacrifice, that they have the ability to grow up in a free country.

It would be really great if someone could design affordable sensory toys for older children. I'm imagining a water table but a large one like adult height and squishies and toys she can stim on but ones designed more towards teenagers so maybe, make up shaped squishies, just slightly cooler older designs and older children/ young adults featured on the packaging! One theme throughout your videos is how hard it can be on the parents of autistic or special needs children when shopping for toys etc. I love your family. I don't know anyone with autism personally but i am so drawn to you all and love what you do and the awareness you spread, but mostly!!! I love the love you all have for eachother

@emmataylor48327 жыл бұрын
Ashii Ashii my school only has two not enough for every special needs kid who can't ride a regular bike. Kind of sad
@lachiemasters12317 жыл бұрын
They probably cost a lot because some of them have to be special made such as one child could not have movement in one leg or an arm etc. It is totally unfair but at least they are starting somewhere.
@docteurshepherd7 жыл бұрын
Probably because they have to be made differently and because they’re in very low demand. Also, when you add “special needs” to anything, the price gets jacked up. Don’t attack me, I’m just speaking the shitty truth..
@Nejjidragon6 жыл бұрын
Because something that is specially made is going to cost more. Coupled with the fact that I'm sure the demand is low enough that they aren't mass produced, production costs are going to be high. They're a lot more specialized than a normal bike (which, when you get into decent ones, are not that much cheaper honestly).
