I have an Abbie art idea! Buy a bunch of canvases and lay them on the ground (OUTSIDE EXTREMELY RECOMMEND!!!!!) put different paints into pray bottles and they her spray away. Another cool idea to go along with this is write a fans name on the canvas with painters tape and once the paint dries do an out line before picking up the tape then once that's dry take off the tape and and paint it in.

Mom always told me if I’m happy it doesn’t matter what the backseat was looking like, as I was kid. In my childhood I was never a “ocd autism typical” child. But once I hit puberty I automatically went from messy and no care to ocd routine demanded. With all the hormones that went on through puberty, routine was the the only thing that was simi controlled. (That was if the schedule was followed through) That fan voice part was great, and then the continued blogging part. Oh jeez. Made my night

Oh gosh, our daughters are like kindred spirits in so many ways! I had to comment about the blanket being missing from your car. Our girl has to have a huge furry coat or blanket in the back too. She puts it over head. She gets under a cover to do iPad daily. It’s her thing too. We’ve even had to stop at the store on our way from KY to FL to get a blanket when we have forgotten it. I think they feel safe in their “cocoons.” It probably helps drown out the external stimuli as well when they want to take a break from it. I’m heading over to subscribe to Priscilla’s cooking channel. So glad we found you guys, makes us feel much less alone!!

You’ve probably thought about this before, but I know you said Abbie will put her hand out to get shampoo while showering; could you maybe get pump bottles like for hand soap but for her shampoo or conditioner? Then it might be easier for her to get the shampoo and stuff herself as well.
@asmirria116 жыл бұрын
joyfulmastermind my brother use to just empty out the bottle when they had those squirt bottles lol. He loved the motion of it i guess. Sometimes while we were sleeping he would get up and just empty the bottles doing that motion over and over. We’d catch him covered in shampoo lol

I use the wall pumps for shampoo and conditioner like you have in schools and (not fancy) resteraunts and hospitals, I don't have the hand strength to squeeze it out of the bottle but can hold my hand underneath and press the dispenser into the wall, I got it when I became a teen bc I didn't want help showering and have to say it's been amazing

I am so pleased that you mentioned the improvements in bathing, this is a bone of contention for me. Bathing and toiletting are, whilst essential, things I hate that I have to do and find it upsetting on a personal level. That’s something we have never thought about, and now I want to. Eh for our girl too! The world tends to not be very accommodating and autism friendly. It can be a big bummer and all we can do is try and make it better and accessible for our kids. But nobody wants their kid to be left behind 🙁 it’s hard enough to navigate the world we have currently, not even looking to the future. Blankets are a go to in the car here too. Even middle of the summer. It’s so easy to forget the small things that they have made into routines and comfort items.

I don't know how well Abbie is going with her Dynavox communication, but you could add "blanket" as a choice. You could probably find a nice Pinterest post about a back seat car organiser Abbie might actually use to make the car look less like Hurricane Abbie. I would totally watch you fold clothes Asa. How do you do it so you can find the clothes to wear each day? Do you put out a couple of outfit choices so that Abbie can choose what she wears each day? Do you have some fancy steam iron thing for the clothes that need ironing? I would like a montage of you doing all the household chores :D I would especially love something like a drone capturing outdoor chores (washing the cars, raking leaves, trimming hedges, mowing lawns, pressure washing the driveway and house exterior) in a time lapse, so you look like tiny ants running around the place.

Oh cilla I feel ya on the voice control thing. Different thing but same principle. All technology these days seem to be wireless. The newest iPhones have wireless charging. Ima struggle so much with that cos I use the wires to pull them up if I drop them on the floor. I charge my phone next to me in bed so I have access to help if I need it & I can only do that cos it’s attached to a charging cable. Sometimes going forwards is a backwards step for those with additional needs.
