Hey Tom, my name is Arun I am a sound engineer and see this problem a lot where people get the acoustic foam and just stick that up thinking that will solve everything, however you will need more than just those acoustic foam panels, as a suggestion look into acoustic treatment (diffusers and bass traps) GIK do a nice explanation on this sort of thing.

Tom im an electrical engineer which required me to take the basic electricians course following electrical engineering, as you own your own house under legislation you are fine to install them with in the law, with no problem however if you were to sell the house in the future then at that time you would have to get them signed and tested to prove they are safe to use. Like so he can see this please
