When I was young, my friends and I heard this record, we thought she was black! Then we saw her, she was so good, no one black said Shit! She got her respect. She was truly the ivory queen of soul.

When I was a kid I always thought teena marie was black until a school mate told me that she was white I told them they were lying see that points to the fact that when god blesses you with soul it doesn’t matter what color you are you have it cause he gave it to you 😇

We Black People gave her Acclaim & Accolades since the Romans didn't, that's fine anyway, she's the ONLY One who got the same GLOW We possess as Singers. They got *_MADonna L. Ciccone_*_ an Italian Roman,_ pushed her out to Superstardom due to she was more than willing to go lower than Hell openly. To be fair, Madonna a decent singer for Pop Music who started out sounding like a Black Girl singing in the 1980s. Her backup Vocalist *_Niki Haris_* is Better than Madonna when she's not singing corny folksy type music. I have no idea why Niki Haris sings wack ass garbage now with her powerful voice. Anyway back to *Lady "T."* To compare, Madonna to Teena Marie, Teena is one CLASSY Black singer with white skin who *_never_* lost that *_Sultry Smooth Soul._* When Teena was _"made in the Music Factory Matrix - !!THEY _*_DELIBERATELY BROKE_*_ THE MOLD!!"_ No other will come again to be.

The best decade for R&B and Funk, 1975-1985. Prince and Rick James swept me up, and Teena Marie laid down the voice. Love this track for being upbeat, and ‘Cassanova Brown’ as a ballad most of all. The soul that poured out from her was raw, real and unforgettable. When she sang, you could feel it to your bones. She was taken way too soon but, we were blessed with her magic and her music.

We are all slaves to our prejudices. Motown smartly knew most whites would not be drawn to straight R&B, so she had no chance with them. They also knew most blacks would not really respect her soulfulness if they knew up front she was white. -So they did not put her picture on her first album cover. Most blacks were shocked the day Teena showed up on Soul Train! They knew they felt her soul when they thought she was black. To reject her then would be hypocritical. So we loved her because we knew she was authentic.

Joslyn, I know you don't intend any offense with your comment, and I really don't take any, but so what if she was white? She just had a shit-ton of talent, and R&B/Soul/Funk was the type of music she loved and excelled at. As a white guy who grew up in an all black neighborhood, I hated when people who meant no offense would say "he's the coolest white boy". I knew they were actually being complimentary in a way they could understand, but it pissed me off and really did hurt because many were my friend and it was apparent that was the primary way they identified me. If a white guy were to comment that Marylin McCoo was beautiful or talented...for a black woman, what would be the reaction? Think about that and realize we are all worthy of praise simply for who we are and not based on any qualifying terms based on sex, race, religion-whatever.
