@amiiboguy7288 Жыл бұрын
@@guccifer764 I think the theme of Pokémon stories typically ties into the legendaries. X/Y’s theme of course was accepting life and death, because it’s part of nature. But Lysandre, the main villain, completely contradicts this by choosing who lives and who dies. Or in Black and White, there was the whole thing with N and Ghetsis believing in truth and ideals (haven’t played that one yet, I’m not sure about the details) Even in SwSh, there seemed to be a whole ‘heroic justice’ theme, with Rose and the hairdo brothers overshadowing Zacian and Zamazenta’s legacy. I always saw Rose believing himself to be like a knight, with his Steel Pokemon being like his metaphorical armor. Despite Zacian and Zamazenta being the ACTUAL knights. I could either be overanalyzing this (I typically do), or I’m onto something here, I’d like to know what everyone else thinks

Oddly tangential: While playing _Skyrim,_ there's one quest in the city of Windhelm where you are investigating a serial killer. At one point you search an abandoned house (which turns out to be the killer's lair), but while doing so there are a number of mundane things in that house that will show a button prompt to "investigate" them, which will give you a quick text description of what it is (something the game does _not_ do often, as usually you can only interact with "functional" objects like items to pick up, chests to search, etc). Anyway, on the second floor of the house is a bed with an odd stack of chairs scattered around it. You can investigate it. When I did, I looked at the chairs, the ceiling joist above the bed, and with zero doubt whatsoever told myself "somebody hanged themself here, didn't they?" I can't explain why/how I made such a deductive leap, it's not useful to any other part of the quest or ever followed up or referenced again, but that's my headcanon.

@luukjansen4221 Жыл бұрын
I can never understand why people seem to agree on gen 6 being one of the worst overall. Playing XYs story is one of the best, the region and routes are well designed, great looking and more unique than ever (only games to match this are BW and Scarlet and Violet imo). XY introduced character customization, with some really cool options and because they didn’t just make everything in 10 colours a lot of them felt more unique. XY also is the only game with the rollerskates, which imo were amazing you could basically travel faster without needing to get on and off your bike (which also would have ruined the route music). XY has some absolute top notch music as well. It also made that application to find trainers to battle/trade with or use GTS/Wondertrade, this system worked so much better than SM as well, since you didn’t need the other trainer to be in that specific castle plaza as well. Megas are still probably the best looking mechanic they’ve added, so much better than Z moves, Dynamax and Terra. The only problems with XY were the difficulty and postgame, however the difficulty is easily fixed by turning off the exp share and by use some 400-450 BST Pokémon, not just slap Charizard and Gyarados on a team and be suprised you can win everything with ease. The postgame is the the only issue that remains, there does exist quite a bit of postgame like finding all megastores, Mewtwo/Zygarde/Kanto birds, leveling the battlecastle, the battle mansion and becoming stylish to access that expansive boutique (not necessarily postgame, but I rarely find people that achieved this before beating the champion on their first playthrough. This isn’t a lot, however it’s definitely not less than SM, SWSH (without the DLC ofc) and maybe even some older games as well if we take off the 10 year old nostalgia brill. Also consider that XY was the first game to go with 3D models and they actually made these for all Pokémon unlike some other gens… Haha okay this became a longer “rant” than I planned, please don’t think I am mad at you personally. I just can’t see why XY always gets low marks, when they were so much better than the two gens following it.

I don't mind non-competitive rivals but you telling me Tierno and Shana went from 10 levels below me to raiding team flare's base?), Team flare is topped only by Magma/Aqua in the most stupid plan for an evil team, unmemorable gym leaders and champion (we went from almost every gym leader in BW/2 having lives and motivations outside of their gym back to "well time to battle"), and the game was one of the first true cracks in terms of performance issues. Also, very subjective but it has some of the weakest pokemon designs too. I don't like any of the final evo's (yes, even greninja. I'm sorry frog/anime fans), and I feel Aegislash and Sylveon (because I'm a huge eevee stan) are the only real standouts for me that gen. it also just happened to be the point where we started getting less OC designs since they started spending so much design time on gimmicks (in this case megas) or on regional variants after this (including Gigantimax forms and paradox pokemon). gen 5 had 150 new pokemon and XY cut that down to 70, with ~30 new mega evo's to compensate. I know this was in direct response to gen 5 being some of the worst selling games, but I always preferred seeing the new designs rather than retrains on the old. I don't think there is a truly bad core pokemon in the way there are truly bad games in other IPs (Like Sonic or Star Fox or even Metroid), but a lotta stuff about XY makes it my clear least favorite. Some just part of the design, and some being a coincidence of its time that was inevitable.
@luukjansen4221 Жыл бұрын
@@raze2012_Thanks for your elaboration! I find it interesting you find the gen 6 designs not memorable, for me that's gen 7-8. In XY we got Talonflame, Tyrantrum&Aurorus, Noivern, Clawitzer& Dragalge, Pyroar, Heliolisk and Malamar (haha I am with you on the Gren tho). Gen 5 was definitely superior I can agree, but that's comparing it with the absolute best. Don't completely agree on the gym leader argument though, almost all had jobs/hobbies. Quite a few of them can also be found outside of their gyms during the story. The designs of the "puzzles" gyms was also great (except the fifth probably), not that they were challenging per se, but they did remind me of the BW/HGSS gyms, which is always a plus in my books. The rivals are in a bit of a weird spot for me, I kinda liked the fact that not everyone in the group is considered a 5* talent trainer/battler. A bit like Bianca from gen 5, it makes you and Calem/Serena stand out more imo. Yea they were also a bit weird and onesided sometimes, but in general I never found them annoying. They only appear on like 1/3 of the routes and the rest is all yours to explore and discover instead of Hop/Rotom blasting your ear full with the full specifics for this route/city. Gen 6 will always be superior to SM and SWSH imo, not that those games were bad, but they lacked more then XY by a long shot. An overall ranking of the games I played would be: 1 BW/BW2/HGSS 2 XY/RSE/SV/DPP 3 ORAS/USUM 4 SM/SWSH 5 BDSP And like you said there us definitely not a really bad game among them, they can all make for some great experiences.

This reminds me also a scenario from Sun and Moon, where an elderly Woman went alongside a Machamp to visita the grave of his late husband. She shares the Story he was Machamp's Trainers and they were very close. One day when he was driving at home he had a fatal accident. Prior to that the Machamp was outside its Pokeball sitting next to him, but the old man reacted fast when they were about to crash and put Machamp inside the Ball to protect him. After that Machamp refused to be in a Pokeball again, and threw it away with all its force. There you receive the TM for Fling

I didn't play the game, but imagine. You first get to this area and give him the Pokemon. And, without spoiling what happens, you come back either later in the game or later in real life, and you see the PokeBall there instead of the old man. Perhaps you were expecting to see him? Man, just think. I wonder how many people keep the Pokemon they gave him, put it into their bank or remember the old man?

I never expected to cry while playing Pokémon Violet. I started with the Path of Legends part with Arven and when he revealed he was trying to get the herbmistica to help his Mabosstiff to better health… I started crying… A few months earlier my childhood dog Max, whom I’ve had since I was 5, was attacked by my neighbors dog. He was bleeding a little but since he was old he died from shock, this happened the day before my 16 birthday… Seeing Arven trying to help Mabosstiff get better reminded me of me and Max in a way… I turn 17 in July and I’m still not used to not having him sleep on my bed when it’s bedtime

It's a balance thing. There are a lot of flaws in the game, and some really good moments to it as well. In my opinion, XY isn't bad, just often lackluster or disappointing. One of my biggest points towards that is the E4, who even on a rematch, do not have full teams, or even megas for that matter. XY are probably the easiest games in the series, with the least amount of content overall. Introduces a lot of cool stuff, sure. But some of those things are used better elsewhere (such as Zygarde as a concept, and Mega Evolution).

Love em or hate em, every Pokémon game/episode has it's moments. Pokémon Y was the 3rd Pokémon game I played, I was 9 when I beat it and didn't find this event until I was 12, and it got me pretty good, deaths in Pokémon are pretty far and few between so whenever one happens it will never fail to hit home on me. Basically every single one got a tear or two my first time seeing, some even got me bawling and still get me now, the only one that didn't make me at least choke up is the implied death of Blue's Raticate in the Kanto games because it just kinda came up with no buildup. The Stoutland in the Alola anime, Luxray in I Choose You, some like those still stick with me years later. The fact that this man got to spend his last few moments happy thanks to you is definitely a standout as far as mainline games go, though it is kind of funny that in theory he could've spent his last moments with a Giratina, Palkia, or Dialga if you still had a level 1 one from the Sinjoh Ruins event, "Thank you, this lord of the underworld really helped comfort this old coot in his dying moments."
@BJGvideos Жыл бұрын
After PLA it would kinda make sense for a Giratina to be more receptive to positive emotion. Sure it's not the same one that teamed up with Volo and had a change of heart later, but there's not many Giratinas out there and they're probably all met with revulsion and fear despite being capable of complex emotion.

I don't think raticate died I think people just were confused by blue not having it on it's team and jumped to conclusions. I never played the first gen games myself but I did watch a few theory videos and one of the biggest pieces of evidence against the theory is that Blue took it off his time before the ghost gym leader. Since normal and ghost can't hit each other, the smartest thing would be to put raticate in a box. Blue is a true rival who doesn't hold any punches like later games and while he doesn't abuse his pokemon I can see him swapping them out in order to win
