In order for the solar heater to work the half round tin mirror needs to be a parabolic shape and the copper pipe would need to be exactly in the parabolic focus point. And the mirror would need to point directly at the sun rotating with the sun to get energy required to heat the water.

How did you find the focal point of the curve to capture the greatest amount of reflection and potential light energy?
@HolicCreation
@HolicCreation 21 күн бұрын
For a parabolic curve, the focal point is determined by the shape of the curve itself, where all the reflected rays converge. This helps capture the maximum light energy. Do you have experience with optics or reflectors? I'd love to hear your thoughts! 😊

Like photovoltaic panels, this is less effective in the winter. If the system is improved it would be fine in the winter. If the pipe in the center of the parabolic mirrors is painted black, covered in evacuated glass cylinders, and the heat transfer fluid is replaced with vegetable glycol, then they system would be an order of magnitude more efficient. The vegetable glycol can then be stored in hot water tanks for potentially days acting as a thermal battery. The glycol can then be pumped to a boiler where it converts the heat energy into steam, then the steam into electricity. Systems like this already exist (and actually predate photovoltaic panels, though they were originally used to heat water - not generate electricity). Hope you find this information useful.

@@HolicCreation I misspoke. I didn't mean parabolic mirrors (though parabolic mirrors can work as well) but your system is also perfectly fine. If you'd like to improve upon it, you can paint the copper pipe black and place it inside an "evacuated glass cylinder." I think it's funny people are telling you this is fake. Especially the "master plumber" 😂🤣

@HolicCreation
@HolicCreation 12 күн бұрын

The piping going across the roof would likely heat the water without all the other work.
@HolicCreation
@HolicCreation Күн бұрын
Great observation! You're absolutely right-piping across the roof can absorb heat from the sun, naturally warming the water. In some cases, that could reduce the need for more complex methods. In the video "I Never Have to Buy Water Again! How to Make Free Water Directly from PVC Drainage Pipe," we focus on efficient water collection, but using solar energy for heating is a brilliant bonus! Have you tried setting up something like this, or thought about combining it with the PVC method? I'd love to hear how it works in your setup!

The wood must be soaked in oil so that it does not rot and holes must be made in it so that the rainwater has somewhere to drain. Do not use those 20-litre bottles that are used to store drinking water. Instead, use another type of material as it is very fragile and deteriorates easily if you keep it in the open air or in the sun.

@HolicCreation

You raise a good point! While using propane for burners can be a practical solution, it’s important to consider that this method may not be sustainable in regions with harsh winters. 😊

Very simple! You just need to install a heat-retaining tank covered with heat-retaining materials such as Polyurethane Foam (PU Foam), Insulation Blankets or Rubber Insulation or many other types of materials available on the market.

Will not work in east Tn. in winter. Pipes will burst....Maybe use Flexapipe which will expand ....
@HolicCreation
@HolicCreation Ай бұрын
Great point! 🥶 In colder climates like East Tennessee, freezing temperatures can definitely cause pipes to burst. Flex pipe or other flexible, expandable materials can help prevent this issue by accommodating the expansion of water as it freezes. Insulating the pipes and keeping them warm is also crucial. Have you tried any specific solutions for winterizing pipes, or are you considering a new approach?

Not a chance on hell does one single copper pipe running through a semi polished steel drum heat water up that much. Gullible if anyone believes this
@HolicCreation
@HolicCreation Ай бұрын
I appreciate your skepticism! It’s important to question methods and understand how things work. The concept of using a copper pipe in a steel drum is based on principles of heat exchange, and while results can vary, many have found it effective for heating water using solar energy. I always encourage viewers to experiment and see what works best for their situations. Have you tried any similar setups or have suggestions for alternatives? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

In Taiwan you’ll see similar setups on every other rooftop and they work just fine. Helps if the ambient temperature is 40° C of course 😂 “Cold” water comes out of the tap lukewarm already.

@HolicCreation
@HolicCreation 15 күн бұрын

That's right. Let's improve the system by: Painting the pipes black. Installing a glass cover above the sunlight reflection part. We need to add a heat-insulated tank (can use foam) inside the house. Then hot water will always be ready for you.

Bonjour!

@HolicCreation Ай бұрын
That’s a smart setup! 🚿 Three to four coils of ABS pipe on the roof sounds like a clever way to turn sunshine into a hot shower. 15-minute showers with that method? I’d say that’s a winning idea! 🌞 How’s the water temperature holding up during those showers?

@@HolicCreation I figured 3 coils comes out to around 6-8 gallons , it gets extremely hot ,way more than a conventional wh so I end up using more cold water than hot to bring it to temp seemed to work out OK.

That solar heater is a joke man. 1. The reflector isn't particularly reflective. 2. The pipe doesn't appear to pass through the focal point of the reflector. 3. What's the input temperature of the water? 115? This setup looks like you're going to lose more heat between the "heater" and the sink then you'll gain going through the heater. 4. If it all really works and heats cold water and produces a steady supply of 114F water, congratz...you can make hot water in the summer on a sunny day in the daytime. All you have to do is lug it up to the roof.
@HolicCreation

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate your feedback on the solar heater design. You raise valid points about reflectivity and pipe positioning that can impact efficiency. Improving those aspects could definitely enhance its performance. It's also true that practicality is essential for any DIY project-it's all about finding the right balance between creativity and functionality. What suggestions do you have for making it more effective? Your insights could really help improve future designs!

You're right-while this setup can help save on hot water costs, it's true that it won't cover all gas or electricity needs, and there may still be some expenses involved. It's more about reducing some utility bills rather than eliminating them entirely. What are your thoughts on combining it with other energy-saving solutions?
