A nice tune from Boardwalk Empire season 1, ep. 1. No copyright infringement intended, all credit goes to HBO. The link to the original song: • I Never Knew I Had a W...
Lyrics:
Jonesy used to roam, never stayed at home,
He'd go out with the boys and leave his wifie all alone,
Then the town went dry, Jones began to cry,
"With no cafes or cabarets, I know I'll surely die."
For weeks it had him worried, but now he's feeling gay,
I heard him tell a friend of his out on the street today.
Say!
I never knew I had a wonderful wife until the town went dry.
The way I spent my money on women was a crime,
I found that with my wife, I could have had a better time,
I'd send her to the country and I'd always shout hooray,
But I saw her picture in a bathing suit the other day,
I never knew I had a wonderful wife until the town went dry.

This song was so darkly and ironically appropriate for what happened in this episode.

That's not really Eddie Cantor but the rather Stephen DeRosa, the actor who plays him on Boardwalk Empire.

True. He does sound remarkably like him though. Great job by the actor.

If HBO didn't make it so hard for their shows to be watched on other platforms this show would've even been bigger. Nobody buying HBO stuff exclusively.. they need to put that on streaming platforms and let the people enjoy.

Wtf are you talking about? This was one of the most successful shows on when it was running. You're worried about an issue that doesn't exist.

Nucky might have been a gangster, but when I saw how brutalized Margaret was, I was 100% on his side.

Such a wonderful series. Too bad they fired the actor that played James and that the final season was kind of a mess. Steve Buscemi is such a great actor that i feel sad when he plays dumb roles in Adam Sandler movies. He can do way better than that. Also, at the beggining of this clip they show the butler. I loved that character so much!

And she never appreciated one thing Nucky did for her. She might have been the most ungrateful character in any show I have ever seen. And, to top it off she was a complete sinner and judged everyone else who did. I think the show would have been even better if they had gotten along better.

I think it's kinda the point. Nobody in this show is a saint. The only people who are "good" die.

Can you imagine someone singing a song like this today. Not the music or melody, but the lyrics. It's shameful and dispraising to love your wife nowadays. Crazy...

Yeah, actually the song is quite beautiful in a way. Here's a song about a hardcore alcoholic with who was a mean drunk horrible to his wife, and when prohibition was passed and he couldn't get anymore drinks he realized how much of a monster he was being and because he was always drunk never realized how great his wife really was. So this song is saying overall be good to your wife, and that wives can be a great thing. I don't know one song nowadays that would dare say a thing like that, it's kinda sad actually...

@@SalemSunset That is such bs my guy, he could've known he had a wonderful wife all a long if he didn't decide to be a stupid drunk. If it took some men those days for alcohol to be prohibited, to love their wives and kids and leave the whores houses alone.. they weren't such stand up guys to begin with. You and the other guy really praising people for the bare minimum 😂

Yeah a song about a drunk only liking his wife after not being able to get alcohol, so wholesome. Also this same guy sang “I like my girls dumb, because the dumb ones know how to make love.”
