Hi Alex, I've started to do this in the last few weeks, what i do is pick a blade of grass just in front of the ball and found I'm striking the ball 100% better than before. You have just confirmed I'm doing the right thing here. 👍

I definitely struggle with the inconsistency of hitting the ground with my irons before the ball… I have for years. And I think you nailed it here… I have always looked at the ball. Thanks for the tip. Going to focus on this drill heavily in the off-season.

I went to the range last night and tried this and it was unbelievable how well this worked, will never stare at the golf ball again!! your videos have helped my game a ton this year, thanks Alex!!

Absolutely great teaching and demonstration. As an engineer type mind I've been thinking about this concept but no one nor any training talked about this nor confirmed my thinking. You DID IT. It makes perfect sense. Thanks so much. Great job. Keep it up with these excellent videos.

I've slowly implemented this method , takes time as the urge to look at the ball is strong , however the results are a game changer once it becomes more natural, also find my finish and weight shift is far better as well .

Hi Alex, Having done this to cure hitting the ground before the ball as well as eliminating the lateral hip movement, that can also cause this. I really do believe that this works for most swing types. However, you may find that over time, you start thinning the ball as your swing adjusts. I now I have gone back to looking at the top of the ball, and the ball striking is way more consistent again. Until that changes again 😉

hi Alan! where are you watching from? cold here in Manchester to
@alangoudie2299 Жыл бұрын
It's very cold in Darlington & my course is closed. I really appreciate your easy to follow tips. Some coaches like Adam Young confuse me with too much detail. I used to be a primary teacher who took P.E. as my main subject at college & realised that short, clear instructions were more effective than long, detailed advice. You are unable to follow complicated instructions in the short time you have to strike a golf ball.
@brianmurray4199 Жыл бұрын
About a month ago when I go to the range I put a small strip of tape on the ground about 2 inches Infront of the ball. That's what I focus on and my strike is improving alot and slowly showing up on the course

Yep ... many years ago a good golfer told me that you should look at the back of the ball while you address it and then shift your focus to the front of the ball, because if you look at the back of the ball you hit AT it and if you look at the front you hit THROUGH it ... and every time my ball striking starts to suck I realise i've stopped looking at the front of the ball .. good advice Alex .. When I saw the title, I was thinking 'yes, finally, someone is saying this!' However, my go is not looking at the top ball, but not after the ball...instead, before or maybe not at all, because I'm judging the ball as just a thing that needs to be scooped through with the swing of a bat :) sometimes works extremly well, sometimes not, but need more time to test (with every other part of the seing remaining constant, which isn't always true :))

Great Video. :) Where do you look for a fairway wood? Same as Iron?
@davidcavon6372 жыл бұрын
I tried looking target side, but I occasionally come in steep which didn't work out so good. I now look at a piece of grass (yup, small target indeed) as close to under the ball as I can. Sometimes I don't move laterally toward the target enough, and I get a bit of a duff/chunk, but mostly I focus on that one spot until the release after contact.

Ok. I tried this and for me it really worked. I usually drive the ball 210 215. I looked at the ball then looked about a ball's width then made my swing. I'm hitting 230, 240 and hitting the middle of the club and very few toe shots (I hate those so much). It works for me.

Understand the iron strike and have played with that with mixed results. Think I might do that for a while now to see if it helps. Understand the driver idea but haven’t ever figured out a suitable target that helps me avoid scuffing the turf. Ideas on that welcome. Now, for hybrids? Isn’t the low point essentially at the ball for those, so what is the target? The last blade of grass before the ball? The first one after?

When a professional boxer goes to punch somebody in the nose he aims at the back of the head behind the nose not the tip of the nose . Thus applying maximum force to the blow. same principal as you are explaining here.

I hate showing people this drill on a mat. Most golfers will say they can hit balls at the range all day but can’t on the course, it’s because the actual grass doesn’t bounce like the mat. Looking forward of the ball is good but my saying is “ it’s not your grass” so take a divot the size of a gopher and you’ll always make contact.
@John_Wood_ Жыл бұрын
just put the divot back and all is good!

This doesn't work for me. When I am told to look forward of the ball and take a swing I usually top the ball. If I try to hit back of the ball I drive my club into the ground behind the ball. I've been playing golf for over 50 years and still all these tips only make my game worse.
@oceanyt8Ай бұрын
Yes it doesn't help either. I guess it's better to look through the ball. At least by 3 inches. Follow through impact. Weight shift to the left but head still at or behind the ball. Last resort, close the gap between 2 legs. Smaller width...
