Margaret Singana singing "I never loved a man".
One of my favourite old songs. Thanks to Gallo Record Company for letting me have this song on my channel.
Margaret Singana, the world-renowned SA singing star, passed away on Saturday 22 April 2000 (aged 63). Although she enjoyed her greatest success during the Seventies, she made a triumphant comeback following a debilitating stroke in 1978. In 1986 Margaret Singana returned to the microphone to sing 'We Are Growing', the theme song from the television series "Shaka Zulu" which went to number 1 in Holland in 1989. But that was to be her final bow and she died largely forgotten, and in a financial situation unbefitting a star appropriately and affectionately dubbed "Lady Africa".

@@shanges2008 Yes, I believe it was around 1977. A good year for music. It was unfortunate that her next single was Orang-utan, which was poor in comparison. But I also loved the Rabbitt track she featured on - Tribal Fence 🙂

Thanks. I requested this a long time ago and had given up. Such a sad ending to a most gracious lady with one of the most powerful voices. Hopefully we can do better for our artists, that they will have better managers and learn to manage their own funds and to negotiate better contracts.

Margaret Singana was never and will never be forgotten by those who grew up bump dancing to her music. She may have died penniless, like many black artists and boxers, but she will always be in our hearts. @Richardson Mzaidume, I agree Zonke and Zahara are going to have to work REALLY HARD to be mentioned alongside Margaret. Brenda worked very hard and deserves to be mentioned alongside the great SA voices. Lady Africa. Thats Cape Province.
