If you have the correct fov the size of things should be literally equal in a 55" and in a 17" monitors. What change is just how much "things" you can see, that's how fov setting works. If you see things smaller you are probably setting your camera to view more things and hence you are messing up your "correct" FoV.

Curious as to why your performance suddenly dropped? Or was it always poor running the triple 27s? Obviously the computer being older doesn't make it slower than it was before, and it's not like there's some new fancy title out that requires higher specs. I was able to run triple 4K displays in iRacing at around 70FPS with a 9900K and 2080Ti back when I first set up my rig, so 40FPS with triple 1440s on a 3090 sounds very low. I guess that depends on the size of the standard single monitor. A 55" 16:9 display has roughly the same hFOV as a 49" 32:9 super ultrawide. @@outlander234 Yes it tracks to the front, back, sides, up and down and left and right. It's not so much an illusion to a virtual word but as I see it it's more of a camera controller that shifts the view on your monitor and allows you to see beyond the the edges of a fixed monitor view.

I have recently purchased a 57" Samsung. Was on sale for £1750. Mind blown!! I had been playing on ROG 32" curved 1440p. The immersion is another level! I have a 4090 so can only get 120hz on the G9... I have locked ACC at 120fps, all Ultra settings at 8k. I get the 120fps and my GPU is only at 50% load. On 16:9 every corner was a blind corner... at 32:9, I am taking in the scenery whilst racing about. Also the window view is great for sideways action in EA WRC. I have never tried Triple Screen Setup or VR... But anyway you can extend your screen for SimRacing, I would 100% recommend it!

I was in a position where I had a choice between mid level graphics with 1 screen, or budget graphics with 3 screens and have the extra FOV. That was my choice. Now I’ll upgrade the PC and graphics quality as I can. As always, to each their own. A person can be a serious sim racer if they use a gamepad if they race the right way and can control the car so they don’t impact anyone else. Plenty of people out there racing with DD’s on mummy and daddies coin have punted me with my g920 keeping it under control. Got my boy over from West Oz for a week, been building up to it for months since the ashes. Hoping to get back on the sim soon - I’ve missed having the time to watch as much. Cheers Dave and fam.

Thanks for making a video clarifying the reasons for your decision Dave! I understand you were running triple 1440p. Do you think triple 1080p monitors would solve your pc issues?

This is where i am with an RTX3070ti and Ryzen 7. I'm got most gfx settings at full and generally well over 100fps. I've only got 3x24in which just can't give you sense of sitting in an actual motor, so thinking of upgrading to 1080p 32in - I'm half blind anyway, so figured extra resolution would be wasted on me! Feels like having higher refresh rate monitors is about the only future proofing i need at this stage, but open to views.

Triple 1080p 27" is the sweet spot for me in terms of performance and immersion. The car feels about the right scale but I think the disadvantage is the road looks a bit smaller than real life. Bigger screens solve the road problem but cause the car to look over sized.

Ya from what I’ve heard if you want good immersion 27s are good but 32s are better. I was running a single 1080p 27 before switching to a 1440p 35 ultra wide. Honestly I didn’t really notice the difference in resolution unless paying close attention to specifically that. Once up and racing I didn’t think about it. Refresh rate was more noticeable, went from 60hz to 100hz and that made a difference. Seems like 1440p especially when multiplied across 3 monitors just isn’t worth the hit to performance. I’d rather have lower resolution and higher graphics settings.

Just started this hobby using my regular 27 inch 2K monitor with a G923 and upgraded to a CSL DD. Next up...ordered a 34 inch ultra wide 2k monitor. It will fit perfect on a stand right in front of my wheel stand. Triples is something I can only see myself doing if I like REALLY got deep into sim racing against other people. At the moment I am just enjoying trying out different cars and tracks with Assetto Corsa. And also looking forward to the next Forza Game.

I am new to simracing and waiting for new Vr headsets to come out and use for simracing, till then i put my Playseat Challenge with my Fanatec CSL DD right up against my 65“ LG OLED. The biggest upside is that those can do 4K120 with G-Sync and very low latency, perfect for my use case. I only lack the ability to easily look left and right but the rest is really good

I personally have single screen but with track ir witch stills allows to look on the side aswell as inside the corners. I’m still quite a rookie but I find it much suffisent for now. Imo triple is just if you wish to have a full immersion with a complete cockpit setup, but it doesn’t seem to be necessary to have fun and be efficient on the track

Using a 48” LG OLED here. I love it. I just don’t have the room for triples. I’m on a 10850k and 3080. Next year I will build a 14700k rig, I have all the parts except the motherboard right now. What video card though, who knows. I will stay with a single monitor though.

Hi Dave, I’m running an i9 with 3070 on triple 1440p and getting a solid 90fps on high settings on iRacing . Is it possible that there was another performance issue somewhere? … maybe the i9 was an older gen to mine. I think mine is 11th gen

Number of cars you're pulling data for and number of visible cars are the biggest performance hits in iRacing, I'm sure Dave was referring to.the worst performance he would see (i.e. on the grid and just after race starts, while everyone's still close together and all) rather than the average

Sure, I'm with you. But using single screen means that you are not a sim racer? I guess that this was the main message in this video. I started to use triple recently and really love it, the immersion is fantastic. VR is the most immersive, but Ironically claustrophobic.

Hi Dave, thank you for your videos, your enthusiasm and your passion. Regarding whether or not to use a single screen, I understand your opinion, but I don't completely agree. You can afford to go back to a simple screen because you're driving a GT. Door knocks or possible side impacts most of the time cause little damage and do not prevent you from finishing your race. In open wheel, it's not the same story. No spotter can replace the fact of being able to visually monitor the distance from the car next to you and which will have a better chance of sending you into the barrier than a GT. You can also afford to go back to a simple screen because you are a pilot with great experience. How many novice drivers, with only one screen and NO spotter, can get damaged and not finish their races because they have no side view? In short, in open wheel, whatever your level, you are almost obliged to have a triple screen or a wide screen. If you are a GT driver with good experience, you can actually go back to a single screen. Best wishes.

My 2 cents; super ultra wide 49” at 2k seems to be a happy medium for me between single and triples. Edit: plus PC versions of Forza and other arcade style software run at 32x9 but not on triples.

I am racing single screen since i started simracing... there is software helping you where another car is like crewchief or the radar from racelab or the combo of both. The only downside i noticed is especially on "curved straights" like Road Atlanta or Road America... it is hard to estimate where you are if you are forced to drive in the middle of the track, but i got used to it, just having a little buit more work so search for reference points.

I got a modular triple screen rack in case i ever want to go for triple screens. So i have built the single screen option and the other parts are in the cellar. Since my PC isn't good enough for more than 1 43 inch 4K screen i never had the intention to upgrade and it works just fine for me. It's good to have the option due to the rack but I'm not too much interested to upgrade anytime soon and I'm good with the one screen I have.

I am currently debating this myself as the cost of triple 4k OLED monitors (and the bugs I'm facing of it) and the fact that 99% of other games can't do proper ultrawide or triple setups so ONE great screen is amazing.

Happy for you Dave that you can adjust!

I’ve never used triples but I’ve been using TrackIR for years and to me it’s the best solution. Although in my opinion you do need at least a 32” screen as anything smaller your line of sight wanders past the edge of the screen when moving your head.
