POC:
for this upload, I was able to, for the first time in a while, focus more on playing bass and work with a very talented drummer, Matthew Lee. Working with him reminded me of my touring days back with Undignified, a worship ministry I played bass for a number of years. The way he grooves on each song, the touch he has with every hit, and the precision in how he hits inspired me to groove with him. You can see me focusing less on my fretboard and more on eye contact with Matt. This is how bassists and drummers lock in.
Locking in is very, very important. To go past reading a chord sheet and to feel the flow of a song, to read dynamics by reading the body language of the drummer and bobbing your head with their wrists and knee movements--these are vital to the rhythm section of any band, worship or not.
the licks and grooves I used included, but were not limited to: the pentatonic scale, major scale, hammer-on's, volume knob fading techniques, pull-offs, changing dynamics by switching between fingerstyle and using a pick to play bass, etc.
