I don't mind messy (stuff lying around) but I do mind dirty (trash lying around, food stains or other muck, a noticeable amount of dirt or dust on the floor). So I always clear trash out immediately, but my stuff is only neatly stored when I haven't used it since I put it away or when I've just tidied up so I can clean. I used to be a little more laid back about it, but I never got as bad as this guy. Particularly I hate food waste lying around. He literally has black stains on his carpet-y floors. There's definitely something alive in there.

I'm the inverse of you. I struggle to keep up with my house because I get obsessed and hyper-focused on whatever I'm interested in, but I'm neurotic enough that it bothers me before it gets this far. I can live with messy, like papers strewn around my desk, objects that I actually use lying around the house because I my mind went somewhere else before I put it away. But dirtiness bothers me, like food waste lying around or too much dust/dirt on the floor, or a smell coming from "somewhere in the room". So as soon as I notice any of the latter I have to clean it up, which is often challenging if the room is messy, so I also tidy up the mess before I clean. Which is why my room has never been as bad as his. Yay Autism & ADHD combo...

To get any smell out while deep cleaning a cool trick is after all trash is removed, boil soapy water with a LOT of soap, that could remove even the smell of cigarettes off a wall

Very funny. In my share house days, I'd clean up the common room area when a girl was coming around. My flatmates were always happy and hoping I get one coming over often. Also, when I moved into my own renting place. A single Mum who I was rooting came over and asked: Why is your house so clean? I knew it wasn't going to be serious right there & then, but coolly said I had an inspection next week (which was true, but still pretty tidy regardless).

Looks like somebody needs to buy a dusting cloth some 409 spray, a vacuum with that powder you put on your carpet that you let sit for like 30 minutes before you then vacuum your floor. He also needs to get a new bedding and then some room deodorizer spray preferably gain or Febreze spray. I think that's what he needs. Also he needs to get a nice clean removeable carpet to put over the top of whatever stains are on that carpet that you probably can't remove with the stain powder and the vacuum cleaner. Also you're supposed to like get one of those little scrub brushes which he needs that you use to scrub the stain remover in after 30 minutes of it sitting on the carpet. You're supposed to wet the stain powder remover a little bit so it activates the stain on the carpet and helps to clean it and then after 30 minutes you scrub it and then you vacuum. He also needs one of those giant black trash bags for all his trash. He also needs a cardboard box or some shopping bags to remove his snack pile that he can then place at the bottom of his closet when he needs a snack pile for later.

This paragraph of carpet cleaning tips is exactly why I have wooden floors. Also, I would not consider any food I'd find in that room "snacks for later". I'd consider them a bio-hazard. He's probably unintentionally growing an antibiotic-resistant strain of Bacillus Cereus somewhere in that room.

@@NLTops I was saying for him specifically not for anyone else I mean for me I probably throw it away and start from scratch but if you wanted to save it for later he could that's his opinion I know some people out there were probably say some of that stuff is useful like why are you throwing it away it's edible food. And then there's people like you and me who just wants to start over from scratch. Also I used to have carpet floors which I don't. We have throw rugs and wood floors in our house which I'm grateful for. We're renting and we didn't want to rent anything unless I had hardwood or tile floors which are very easy to clean. You just basically sweep mop all done. In our house we usually just use the vacuum for like our carpets are little like are Throwback carpets. The good thing about our like throw rugs which can be huge or small is that if you cannot clean them with the powder cleaner and the vacuum then just throw it away and get a new one. That's usually what I do if it's too far gone to clean. Part of the reason why I don't like carpets because if it's too far gone to clean you have to replace the whole entire carpet and that is really bad. If your what floor has an issue it's so easy to clean including the tile. The only problem is tile has to be replaced in that one spot and your wood floor also too but most of the time liquids and dirt stay on the surface of the wood floor and the surface of the tiles which is the good thing about tiles and wood floors. Though I will say that with a carpet it can even go further than that. With a carpet you think you're getting what's on the surface but you don't realize that some of that dirt has gone through the carpet to the bottom. There are times where I pick up the throw rug because this is a good example. I pick up the throw rug and I pick it up very carefully to make sure whatever dirt is on it doesn't fall on the ground you know you try really hard to do that. I usually clean them outside like I shake them off outside first before I'll actually vacuum them sometimes if I'm lazy I'll just vacuum. Anyways I try to be as clean as possible. Also sometimes I will pick up the rug as carefully as I can and I will see dirt underneath the rug going how the heck did that dirt get there. Then I realize it's gone through the rug onto the hardwood floor because vacuuming and steam cleaning doesn't get what's underneath the carpet it only gets what's like in the middle of the carpet and on the surface of the carpet it doesn't get the bottom of the carpet. I learned this for my stepmom who is married to my dad who cleans very well and she said you can't get the bottom layer of a carpet and a house you can only get like the middle and the surface. Your steam cleaner and your vacuum will make your carpet look really clean but underneath on the very bottom layer underneath the carpet there's a lot more that sometimes you can't see that's really dirty. Anyways sorry this explanation was wrong but this is part of the reason why I don't like to have actual stapled carpets in my floor and why throw rugs are good and a good example of what you can see under the carpet when you lift up the throw rug or some places they call it like a removable rug.

@@Katyahbib If you have a laminate or wood floor with a small carpet to keep your feet warm under your desk, fine sand will work its way through the carpet. And then there's sand between the carpet and the floor, and when you walk on the carpet it sands your floor's protective layer off. A friend of mine still wanted a carpet at his desk, so he put a circular rubber anti-slip mat under his desk chair and then put a thick fiber rug on top of it. The rubber mat prevents sand from scratching the laminate floor when he walks on it or moves his chair and the rubber mat is just as easy to sweep and mop as the floor. Also in my country we clean rugs by hanging them on a washing line and then hitting them with a carpet beater. It's actually pretty fun to do. You hang it on the line upside down and smack all the accumulated sand and dust out of it. But overall I think carpets are too much work so I just wear fluffy indoor shoes when my feet get cold (or walk around in my socks when it's not cold).
