The Way I Used To Be was my favorite read of 2017. It's definitely very triggering - from a survivor's standpoint - but I also felt more identified with than I have ever before with a novel. Even though my situation was very different, my mental status after was very similar. (It's her older brother's best friend who does it & there's the added violation of it taking place in her own bedroom when her whole family is home.) So heartbreaking, but so beautiful as well.

If you have an ollies bargain store near you, you should go their because they have books no more than $5.00 a piece. Amd you can get alot of newer books there. Also bookoutlet.com has great prices.

I feel you so much!! What I used to do was to download them. I know you aren't supporting the author that way, but for me it was impossible to afford more than a book a month. Reading on the computer is annoying and not very good for your sight, but it's better than being unable to read! Or at least that was what I prioritized. I made sure to take some breaks, though. Also, if you feel bad about not supporting authors, think that you will definitely be able to do so in the future. It's not a permanent thing. Discounted books are also good, but they still require money. Sometimes, I didn't even have 5$ to spend. Still, it's good to be on the lookout for offers. I sometimes managed to convince my mom to buy a few books by saying they were great prices.

Idk if you're interested in reading about burn injuries, but back in high school i read Face by Benjamin Zephaniah. It's about this kid who suffers facial injuries after a car accident and how his relationships with his friends and girlfriend develops, it also talks about his relationship with his psicologist and a bit about the black community. Sorry if my english sucks :/
