I used to work at a custom cake bakery. I met with customers and quoted high end cakes, though I did not bake them myself. I also dealt with upset customers when they came around. I can say, since all art is highly subjective, the biggest challenge of my job was to communicate between the cake decorators and the customers. Something that a customer thought was beautiful might have been a huge no-no for a decorator, and sometimes decorators thought they were more skilled than they really were. A cake like this yoda cake can be very, very challenging. Unless a decorator has actually made that exact same cake before, there is really no way to tell how it will come out. If I were asked to quote a baby yoda cake like this, I would provide the customer many photos of humanoid 3D cakes we have made in the past, so they know our skill level and style before buying something like that. I can tell you, some of my customers would not have been happy with that five star cake. Nothing short of a perfect, 3D baby yoda like they've seen on TV, with skin textured skin and wispy eyelashes would have been acceptable. It's all about figuring out and managing their expectations.... I think the price of $500 is more than fair for the five star cake, btw.
