Big congrats on the new partnerships and ownership this year, Grant!! As far as club selection goes, I was hoping Takomo lets me mix the set up a bit. I want to play the 101Ts in the 4,5,6 irons (1 degree weaker) The 301CB in the 7,8,9 and a 301MB in the PW. (PW 1 degree stronger, 46°) My handicap floated around in the high 20’s in 2024. Mind you I didn’t play much dew to recovering still from ACL surgery. I currently have Spalding CB’s from the mid 2000’s and the only thing I like about them is the spin I get. No question I could use more forgiveness but I really don’t want to lose the spin from the mid to short irons.

There's two types of weight on a golf club. Static weight and swing weight. Static weight is the overall weight of the club if you were to lay it on a scale. Swing weight is how heavy it feel when you are holding the grip end and swinging the club. An advantage to graphite is that the static weight of the club can be made much lighter while maintaining the proper swing weight. If you grab the clubs by the clubhead end and swing them upside down you can really feel the weight difference between steel and graphite shafts. Steel tends to be more consistent and can lessen spin rates in irons. Graphite is ideal for golfers with lower swing speeds looking for a higher trajectory. These are generalizations because modern graphite shafts come in a variety of weights and flex points that will fit a wide range of golfers and skill levels. The deciding factor might be for some lower handicap players that graphite tends to be more forgiving. This is the case on both mishits and on the golfers body. Especially the hands, wrists and shoulders. You play a lot of golf and if staying physically healthy is an issue, perhaps it's something to consider in your decision. Rick Sheils did a review of all 3 irons (steel shafts) and provided spin rates, clubhead and ball speeds, carry and overall distances. You should check it out. He's not sponsored and he absolutely loved the irons. He definitely had a preference though two of the models performed extremely similarly as far as spin rates and distances were concerned. The look of the irons are amazing, whichever way you go. Good luck, Grant. Hopefully this was somewhat helpful. I was a club fitter back in the late 90s thru the mid 2000s, when we didn't have the tech they have now, so you really had to know your stuff. The other thing i should mention is torsional stability. That's the twisting motion of the shaft at impact. Steel tends to have less torsional movement, making shots more consistent directionally. Lastly, Phil has psoriatic arthritis. He's likely controlling it with meds but as a sufferer myself, it's an extremely painful condition, meds or no meds. That might be the reason he's playing graphite shafts. It's a good resson. Especially if you want to avoid these types of ailments down the line
@PetSKi672 сағат бұрын
@@dinosaur6756, and the swing weight depends on the static weight as well. With heavier shafts it is tougher to get the clubs feel more head heavy and it depends on the clubhead weight and how much extra is possible to put in the head. The traditional scale is intrestingly still in use, yet frequency matching is also available. Had a set once with graphite going from E to C every other club, and the clubsmith was stunned at first, but put them into frequency analyzer and heureka! The clubs were frequency matched and felt really solid and similar all the way thru the set. That said, I am puzzled, that the old alphabet+number ancient scale is still in use today.

I’ve had the Takomo 101T with KBS Tour shafts for 2 years. They work as good as any and are clean looking. I had them made 1° flat and 1/2” off length for my height. I like a smaller head like the 101T. I hit a lot of range balls. The grooves are not holding up like other brands. Softer metal I would assume. Not sure if the spin will hold up. The 101T look exactly like a Taylormade P series iron with a different logo. Customer service on a number of questions since I’ve owned them have not responded. They did once when the clubs came in with box damaged and a grip torn from a forklift fork thru the box. There response- not our fault. I changed the grip and went on. Head separated from my shaft on a club. I needed the tip size and emailed. Zero responses. Took 9 weeks to get my clubs also after the credit card cleared day one. I find with graphite shafts that my head control and awareness is a lot easier. Plus they're lighter and easier to swing for my lack of muscles. An extra stiff graphite shaft would probably be similar to a stiff steel shaft.
Congrats! Have been thinking of giving these a try.

Actually disappointed he didn’t hit the 201’s bc I really want to buy some Takomo’s but I’m stuck between 201 and 101T. I’m long with my irons and I’m a 7.1 hcp but not sure if I should try and make golf slightly harder and go 201 or have some more forgiveness and go 101T

I bought the 101 irons with the Atmos Red shaft last year. I really like them! So glad to see you are involved!

I just got their combo set. MB's PW-8. CB's 7-4. Love.

I ordered them in December.... I was thinking the same 😅

I just got a set but I haven’t hit them yet. Heading to my sons soon to hit them on his simulator. Can’t wait. I may have made a mistake on the shafts though. I went with the KBS Tour lite stiff. Any feedback with reference to using standard weight vs the Tour lite?
@ryderbrunken12 сағат бұрын
@@jefformsby5604 I also went with the 201s in the Kbs tour lite, ive only hit on a simulator but they seem to work well for me, I have a pretty moderate club head speed aswell more focused on tempo than anything else.
@asagers11 сағат бұрын
I’ve been playing them for over a year. Had my best season last year with them, they are fantastic! I have the KBS Tour 120 stiff shafts. My previous clubs had DG S300 shafts which were heavier and stiffer. I referred to the KBS website where they have a shaft selector page based on your 7 iron swing speed. Ended up being perfect for me, I love the feel of them.

201s are Takomos version of a game improvement iron. Not designed for scratch players. The 301CB/MB are their players irons.
@16pennynails6 сағат бұрын
Nice cb's, are they really any better than those sharp looking p7CB's? For a suggestion on what to use make sure it's the clubs that work on an average or even below average day not just the best swing days. You may want to explain to people why you build up your grips like so many of us do, there was much controversy on elite mobile's video about building your new irons. Thanks

The pricing for Takomo's in Australia isn't very attractive after tax and shipping. High handicapper TM irons e.g. Stealth irons, Qi10, M4, M6 are actually cheaper than the 101's. With the 301's there is a slight discount vs 770's P7CB's etc, but not attractive enough. Any chance Takomo will review Australian pricing on these clubs?

I am almost sold on these clubs…just waiting for Grant, George or Wesley invite me out to a fitting…LOL

Maybe try like a 3 or 4 iron in 101t coule be a weapon on par 5s especially if they going 10 or 15 yards further than CB counterparts. Also in pretty sure takomo has a utility type iron maybe a 2 iron. Could be worth checking out

I don't see you approaching with long irons very often so I'd say go the mixed bag

Picked up a set of Takomo 101s for my first irons last season after my starter Top Flite Men's set. These Irons are amazing and more than half the cost of TM or Titleist. I had mine extended and lie angle change, $700 for 4i-PW. Can't be beat

Yes, they are good value irons. I went with PXG for $ 99 a stick ..great irons as well

Question Grant - When you are hitting the graphite shaft well is the clubface more open or closed at impact than the steel? Other words is the flex in the shaft bowed away from or toward the target at impact? Gr8 content. I watch them all.

Good for you, Grant. I recently purchased the 101s in graphite and they're absolutely money. I get they are 2-degrees less per club than my Mizuno JPX921s, but the contact is butter. Love them and would highly recommend the quality of Takomo.

bought 101t a few months ago and they feel fantastic, feel as good as any top of the line irons out rn, the only thing in my opinion that i have to wait and see is if the lifespan is dependable. hoping for the best because if so the company is awesome so take the risk and buy now seems like this brand is only goin up.
@CharlesFox-xl7pm10 сағат бұрын
Suggest 101T in the long irons but you would need to get the lofts adjusted so they would go the same distance in between irons as the 301CB irons.

GRANT IS ROCKING THE SUN DAY RED SHOES! Why did you decided not to try the 201's? It often times seems like the 201 gets left in the dust and people make the move from the 101T to the 301CB. What's your thoughts on that?

I'm using Axiom 105x graphite shafts in my irons, love that there is reduced weight and vibrations but keep the stability of a heavier iron.

101Ts for long irons, it’s not about how good your good shots are, it’s about how good your bad shots are on an off day. The 301s will just magnify variance and be extra punishing on bad days for incrementally more workability on good days. Not worth it IMO.

I have played graphite before. It ballooned entirely too much for me. Lost yardage. However, I can generate some crazy spin sometimes! 🤦♂
