MAN that's a real one right there! Story from playing this actual game: We used to play a lot LAN multiplayer in this in our local "computer club" - when we weren't playing Everquest or Counter Strike - and one guy managed to jump down from a high spot and do a mid-air head bite (Insanely hard/borderline impossible to do!) with an Alien on another player who was playing a marine - resulting in the marine player getting so shocked that he flipped over on his chair backwards and slammed the back of his head into the floor... We joked about that one for a long time 😀 This game was the first real VR game - and the ones we have today haven't even gotten to the RL damage yet! 😀

"This seems very intense - especially for 2000!" Wait what? No it's not bad at all! Play the original Half-Life, Doom (1+2+3), Quake 1, 2 and 3, Hexen 1 and 2... the list goes on really... There are tons of hard games like this out there which would make a "modern gamer" curl up in a fetal position and cry for their mommy! LOL nah I'm kidding - they would just chose "easy" and say they did it on hard/nightmare! 😀

Went back to HL1 a year or so ago and hardly could get a grip on the fast walking speed for much of the game. Got so used to that lame movement these days, it's mind-boggling.

@@r.c.christian4633 Yeah - and also the whole "Oh no I'm mortally wounded! Let me crouch behind this wooden box till the color returns to my screen 5 seconds later! Oh cool back in the action I go!" ... Use to be that you would need to sneak around hoping you could find something to heal you - now - it's all just a bloody arcade game - or - you have 17 charges of heal pods ready to go, where you used to DIE if you got hit again - and there were no save spots in the middle of the level! You die - you repeat the level! 😀Games today are EASY in comparison for the 99.9% of them - and they hold your hand and aid and guide you all the way. They call it "Quality of life" - I call it "Lack of skill"! 😀

​@@r.c.christian4633 It's not really the fast walking that is the problem in HL1. HL1 movement has that wobbly feeling and it kinda ski-s (that slippery feeling). HL2 did this better, while vehicles still have that feeling.

alien versus predator 1999 is the best AVP ever made and among the best games ever made in general. sucks most people will never play it online and experience the chaos of multiplayer

Its funny to me because i remember going into the shop in 2001 and buying this and my pc couldn't run it had to save for a couple years just to be able to play it. Such a good game . They dont make em like this anymore thats for sure.

AVP2 is MUCH better than 1, if you do continue playing this at some point, highly recommend some mods, specifically the one that gives unlimited saves

This game so so good when it came out. That said, AVP2 was leaps and bounds better. Especially pvp and graphics. If I wanted to just wipe the map I would be a marine, but for a really sneaky challenge being the alien is so satisfying when you headshot someone from an above air vent.

Man this is such a great game! Sadly AvP2 was made by Monolith and is in digital rights limbo IIRC. A much better game, with a lot of influence of No One Lifes Forever 1, which is freeware as of now and has hardly anyone talking about it **wink wink** Bought it now myself, as my boxed copy is in the cellar under a literal cubic meter of other games stuff :D

love this game, but to let ya know why you can't 'reload', it was designed for the ps1, and the pc version didn't update it, so you were kept on save points that the ps1 used. It was designed 'some might say over tuned' for that system. I have the ps1 copy myself X} (and the steam version)

I think you are confusing this with ALIEN Trilogy my man, AVP never came out on the PS1, rebellion never had any intention of releasing it for the PS1, this was and still is to this day a PC only game and you can't reload becuase that's what ALL FPS was like back then, there was no reload you kept fireing until you emptied the clip..... what dimension are you from?

All three have some form of vision mode to help negate the darkness. On top of that, it was to build tension on limited hardware. Heavily limited vision, large waves of weak but fast enemies, the game was genuinely scary for the time. It made you rely on your tools, like flares and the motion detector. Kept you feeling on edge, jumping at shadows.

Just a small point to make here though: Marine is the worst/most boring character to play! The Predator is way cooler feeling - and the Alien..... the Alien is literally just a fully different game! 😀

Spent so man hours as a kid playing Alien. I could only beat a few levels of each campaign since i was so young. but man id always go back to play the Alien campaign, that was such a blast! I might just download this again and go relive some childhood.
