This series of drumming assignments has been extremely eye opening. From the Fiverr video to the two pro sessions it's been so interesting to see what makes a good take. My take home is; a balance of control, power and pocket. Serving the song, not yourself. All very good session today, Steve from Arizona was powerful and had all the pocket on top. He would also be a dream to record, it's common for powerful drummers to be top heavy, hitting the cymbals harder than their kick and snare. He played with so much power, but gave the cymbals a lovely voicing. You had serious pocket on this one too Steve, loved the control on the cymbal swells and the hi hat. Proper musicianship from all. If you're going to do another one, I'd love to hear some extremely technical acid jazz.

As a drummer I liked Scott's performance best. His hihat control is excellent. Steve's performance was the most unique which I also really liked but felt like it may have been a bit much for a "pop" song. Given Kenny's career, I feel like what he played should be held as the gold standard of what the track should be. It wasn't super flashy but it supported the song well and gave plenty of space for the rest of the band.

If you know me, you'll know how hypocritical this statement is going to be, but.... I do think Kenny was just a touch too busy here. Not that it was anything approaching"bad" but, the song needed just a touch less I think. Honestly it sounds to me like he just got into it and was enjoying himself. Not a bad thing to be sure, but the 2 and 4 groove with accents on the hats for texture really seems a better fit here. That being said. My take would've sounded more like Kenny's, however I probably wouldn't have settled with my actually busier inappropriate first go, and retracked it, probably at the end of a long day, when I'm tired. My logic is, I'd be more apt to hang back and serve the song better if I'm exhausted lol.

It's fun to hear which part of the song the drummers chose to complement the most. Obviously Kenny is a bassist's either favorite or worst nightmare depending on how much a bassist wants a drummer on top of their fills. I think it sounds great. Steve sounds like he's playing with the pads, he isn't doing anything rhythmic that jumps out, but he is always following the volume and texture of the pads. That cymbal grab to accent the swell in the pads was a really cool idea. Scott is listening to all the jangly guitar parts and he's got all this cool cymbal work that complements that.

I would love to see something like the Fivver video but with KZbin drummers! There are some great drummers on this platform that would be awesome to see here!!

Honestly, I think Stephen’s was the most creative.

I was searching for someone else that felt this way. He killed his take right along with the others.

That tom work is gold... Had to go drink some water on my way to "shut the front door." Some nice snare sounds here.... Ear candy

Learn so much from all of these pro's. Tough decision. I am going with # 3. Reason: no over playing, I am guilty of overplaying. Scott was on point and complemented all aspects of the song. He nailed it. # 1 and 2 opened my eyes with their style no doubt. I have a lot to learn from them as well. Loved every second. Thanks to all of you!

I liked that Stephen Taylor guys take personally. The 16th note snare build up was what sold me.

What this shows me is (a) I'm not as uncreative as I might have thought, (b) being rock solid / simple / not overplaying is ALWAYS perfect and (3) GREAT drummers look like they're having as much fun as I'm in my garage! Love Kenny!

KA going half time was awesome, and his little burst fills on the returns are so good. He really stays out of the way well.

I’ve had the pleasure and honor of sitting in on a few of Scott Williamson’s sessions. He is always the smartest person in the room and he doesn’t underplay nor overplay. He’s an amazing drummer and has been an inspiration for me as a drummer for the past few years.

Couldn't agree more. He's just an all around good dude. And those aren't as common these days. Love that guy

That was awesome to see those legends drummers. Please keep drumming Stephen!! Don't choose Legends without itself playing it. It was fun to watch!
