Just found your channel and subbed great vids really enjoyed them liked the gt one but you didn’t comment on 1.8 twinny engine they have, are these engine’s no good in the gt and are they the same as 916 engine
@TheAlfaNut4 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne - thanks a lot for subbing and for taking the time to watch! I haven’t seen or driven a 1.8 Twinny version of the GT but I assume it will be very similar to the 156 (GT was based on 156 running gear) and the 916’s, although I have never seen a 1.8 916 either! I think they were more popular in Euro countries like Italy due to the high tax on the larger engines. Have you got a 1.8?
@waynecash77674 жыл бұрын
The Alfa Nut no I have 2.0 twinny spider but I thought the engine would have taken out of a 916 but they could used 18 156 or 146 I think they both use 1.8 I was interested in a gt but I’m not a fan of diesel and the jts has poor reviews

@TheAlfaNut4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, sorry mate I’m afraid not. I’m about to fit decatted manifolds to my Spider to avoid future ecu and head gasket problems due to heat soak. What happened to yours? Have you tried Squadra in the Netherlands? They do remapping of busso ecu’s, they might be able to help.
@andysykes91394 жыл бұрын
@@TheAlfaNut no ive not tried them yet. I gave the ecu to a friend that fixes pc's for a living. He opened it up and accidentally shoved the driver through five wires! He says they're sonically welded and won't accept any solder. (Two chips were also shaken loose btw, and that's why my car wont start) . He's tried all of his contacts to get it repaired and have come back with nothing. I guess it's worth a try contacting these guys?

The flexihose thing was a pretty big weakness. Didn't realise they went in GTV as well, is there a silicon replacement like for the 156? I'd assume so... Sort of bad how Alfa Romeo don't seem to produce comprehensive spares, like how GTA ECU are almost non existent already. Mildly worried my ECU will cook one day as my engine is CF3 but the GTA ECU are meant to be that bit weaker and less common than the others.

Thats why I’m fitting heat wrapped manifolds to my cf3 Spider - to look after the rear cylinder head gasket & ecu 👍🏻

There are folk who have relocated the ECU elsewhere but that's quite a bit of work. Would wrapping the cats even help? Might run the risk of cooking them possibly. The rear bank is a bit of a worry yes as I've read if the HG goes it'll be the one near the bulkhead. Although the way I drive and the roads I go on don't overly stress the engine. Guessing the GTV operating temperature is similar to the 156? As in driving at moderate speeds on a light throttle will only take the water temp up to about 1/3rd of the way up the gauge. Harder driving or traffic takes it up to about half way before the electric fans kick in?

The replacement stainless manifolds I’m fitting don’t have cats - thats the whole point of fitting them. They are similar to cf2 manifolds. Once wrapped the underbonnet heat will be greatly reduced.

Hi Peter, thanks for watching and you’ll love the Veloce - what a great car and so lovely to drive. Might even be my next daily driver. Its a bit difficult finding enough time to film and edit at the moment - I have to work for a living too! 😉

Yeah, work can get in the way of driving. Got to admit, the Giulia Veloce is amazing to look at and drive. I’ve gone for a creamy brown leather interior and red paint. Just awesome. I owned a 1997 GTV for about 8 years and the only issue was a leaky clutch hydraulic cylinder. Takes about an hour to replace, it’s under the battery. Otherwise, ultra-reliable car!
