you make it SOOOO ENTERTAINING tho!!!! They must have created Stupid Super Mouse Brick Game Thing because they could see the future and KNEW it would make for ANOTHER great video by you LOL :D I'm guessing you live in the UK... so that scraps the idea I had of me sending you a couple of pieces of tech that need new USB-C ports..... one is a Corsair Wireless Keyboard and the other is a Gamesir X3 (a controller that you fit your phone into and plug in the usb port and it becomes a frankenstein looking switch/SteamDeck wannabe) - I THINK I have the skills to do it myself but I would MUCH RATHER see you do it and and create another AMAZING video about fixing it LOL ..... But thats just not worth the shipping (no offense) ... although, judgh9ing by my DISASTER of JUST REPLACING A PHONE BATTERY that left me with a broken fingerprint sensor ribbon, no ear speaker, (I have to use speaker phone all the time now) a broken spudger,, and shattered 'guitar pick' type spudger thing, 2 stripped screws, AND the phone is no longer waterproof.... I think the shipping might be worth it!! LMAO - I'm just messin tho... I don't think you want to start taking on viewers fixes... that a whole other can of worms to open yourself up to.... I just needed a way to bring up just how horrible of a job my battery swap went .... OH, NOT TO MENTION the iFixit Guide for my 2020 Moto G Power had the link to the 'correct' battery for my phone... iIF IT WAS THE 2022 MODEL!!! So the battery is 3mm too long AND DOESN'T FIT!!! 🤦♂but I found the correct one (that actually SAYS that it's the 2020 model in the link, AND is the EXACT SAME BATTERY in my phone originally... it just doesn't have the Motorola logo on it) - FINGERS CROSSED!!!! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 (Oh and I think putting it all back together completely will fix the ear speaker, but $40 to replace the fingerprint sensor isn't worth it on a $200 phone ) - Sorry for the Novel.. I talk a lot :)

Not only made, newly designed even! I'd guess the 2022 date on the PCB is the when the board was designed, not when it was produced, doesn't seem likely to me they'd change the silkscreen every day.

Nice Video again, as tip for make it more solid take some cupper wire for the break points, just solder will not hold very well and will brick again.
@fclcuatroanclas Жыл бұрын
I swear I had this exact same brick game back in 2000, it came for free with a film camera, but it was black instead of orange, and it said "multi-game". Also remember my mother decided to hide it from me in the freezer and completely forgot about it, just to be found months later and it still worked. It is amazing these things are still being manufactured.

Great Video Steve 👍 Nice Job. Those games look very similar to the KitKat game that I repaired a few months back.

Another tip for getting a board like that back together is to EITHER glue another flat overlap piece onto the back, to give them both glue purchase -- or glue them against such a surface and allow them to dry level.. If gluing against a surface, then I suggest wax-paper beneath just in case. Won't matter in your case. It will definitely break again. The screw-holes are on the INSIDE of the board, and the switch is putting pressure on the OUTSIDE. So there's no support for countering that switch's pressure. :(
@SimonEllwood Жыл бұрын
I just came to suggest the same thing. I would have glued a splint piece over the back. It looked like that corner was unsupported?
@Frank-Thoresen Жыл бұрын
I think gluing a thin empty PCB or a rigid plastic behind. Would use jump wires instead of solder on the broken traces.
@Rob_III Жыл бұрын
Hey Steve, first of all 'grats on breaking the 100K. You deserve it (and more!). Awesome, so happy for you. About the repair; when I saw the issue my first though would be to bridge the break with two small enameled wires (magnet wire) with a little 'loop'. That way, if the board flexes a bit while playing (which it inevitably will) the wires would not break the connection as a solder joint will eventually break. And then I think I'd put a piece of plastic or wood or anything I could fit between the PCB and backside of the game - preferably something that exactly thick enough to provide some extra support. Or glue something to the back of the board to give it strength. Nevertheless, enjoyed the video, as always. Keep up the awesome work and looking forward to your next adventure!
@Dukefazon3 ай бұрын
I learned this from another repair video that you can scrape off a lot of solder mask and bridge the broken part by soldering long pieces of paper clip. Paper clip is ridgid and conductive. In this case you might need to add some backing padding under the button because you are pressing on the broken part when you are rotating the piece so a little support might help preventing another break in the future.

A couple of things : 1. Don't use flux for these kind of repairs, flux makes bridging contacts more difficult. 2. Leftover component "legs" are excellent for this kind of repairs. 3. Glue the Knapton tape to the back of the board to add strength instead of trusting its adhesive. Use bostik or similar yellow rubbery glues. I look forward to watching part 2, where you mod it with a power switch, one of those with a wheel for the volume. 😉

I have this somewhere, same casing but it's either off-white or grey and is called Brick Champion. Got it in the early 90s and it plays a perfectly good game of Tetris to be fair. The only variation I remember of the game was one where the shapes were a little different, not all made of four squares so you would get single squares and stuff. "2 in 1" is a more accurate subtitle =)

The next time any kind of force is used on the rotate button, that’s breaking again. It’d be a good idea to glue a layer of PCB to the back of it as reenforcement, but even that’s probably a long shot as the solder joints could flex and crack. Maybe add a wire that can flex instead of just a solder blob?

Cant get enough of your videos thanks, ever thought of doing a computer keyboard, got a 200 pound steel series apex pro love it but grand daughter spilt yogurt on the space bar and killed it, currently using right shift as an emergency space, steel series support wasn't helpful and went quiet when I started to talk about un soldering and moving key switches from a un used key to replace the space bar switch would do it my self but worried I will kill it further but might give it a go if i saw someone like your self doing it first :)
@StezStixFix Жыл бұрын
I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for one of them! 👍
@JasonPurkiss Жыл бұрын
Just asked Chat-GPT and it told me it is possable :) as follows: Yes, it is possible to unsolder a used key switch and replace the space bar switch on your SteelSeries Apex Pro keyboard. However, you will need to ensure that the used key switch you are using is compatible with your keyboard and has the same specifications as the original space bar switch. Additionally, you will need to have the necessary tools and knowledge to desolder and solder components on a printed circuit board (PCB). This can be a delicate process, and it is important to take precautions to avoid damaging other components on the PCB. If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair, it may be best to consult a professional or experienced electronics hobbyist to assist you with the repair.

Steve - I really do enjoy your videos. And you're a pretty good singer, too! (and I promise you I have the performance experience to back that opinion up) One system I haven't seen you fix has been a Sega Saturn. They're extremely difficult to emulate and I have one that doesn't power on (apparently a common issue, as several folks have made updated power units for them), plus nice power sticks that I bought for it and I miss playing it dearly. I was wondering if you have any plans to do a power repair on a Sega Saturn any time soon? For your reference, I find your pacing and your approach very enjoyable. I also like to watch famous luthier Dan Erlewine repairing guitars, as well, because I find watching people with personalities like yours repairing things reassuring and comforting with the world being as it has been for some time now. I've not found another gaming/electronics repair person who is as enjoyable to watch as you are. Peace and harmony in all things, good man!
