The things about the beauty and the beast, is that the entire point was that what everyone else saw as a villain, was gentle, kind, and in the end, lovable. The person who acted like the traditional hero, and in many ways was the first Disney twist villain, was Gaston. He was drawn as a traditional hero. A prince type, up against a villanius monster. Only to show us that our actions, not our looks is what defines us.

@inspelled Жыл бұрын
@@octaviusmorlock He is very much a jerk and living in a world very far back in time. But he does have villain traits. Look at how he treats those around him, its only to HIS gain and when that doesn't work out he takes things up a notch. He wanted Belle to marry him, setting it all up BEFORE asking her, stating what their life would be etc when she rejected him he turned to USE her father. Then there is what he did to the beast. Now that can be seen as mixed THEY all were afraid of the beast and wanted to get away but Gaston planned on KILLING and not just to have beast's head on his wall and score points with the village but because Belle CHOICE someone other then him and Gaston couldnt stand that.
@octaviusmorlock Жыл бұрын
@@inspelled I'm not saying he isn't a villain. He did after all, get Belle's father sent to an insane asylum. (Or try to.) But, while seen as somewhat grotesque nowadays, there's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to hunt and make a trophy of a beast. As far as was generally known, the beast was just that, a beast, an animal. Not human. And finally- at that time- I don't think Gaston _technically_ needed Belle's permission to marry him; just as long as her father approved. All in all, I just think there are _far_ more villainous villains in Disney. (Come to think of it, I think _most_ of them are worse than GASTOOOOON!!! ♪♫.)

I like that you decided to switch Gaston's outfit from red to blue; I'm sure you know the designers have often said that they deliberately made Belle the only one in town to wear blue to make her stand out as different, and so that when the Beast turns up to the ballroom in blue it shows their growing connection.
@deviousangel336 Жыл бұрын
It's also meant to display Beast's character arc. In the movie or just media in general, blue is meant to symbolize good while red symbolizes evil. At the start of the movie, we see that both Gaston and the Beast wear red. Later on, we see him in purple (a mix of red and blue), showing his development. And then, finally, blue, demonstrating that he has become a good person. Meanwhile, Gaston stays in red the entire time. Also, both the Beast's and Gaston's eyes are blue, showing that no one is pure evil and that there's a little good in everyone. It also helps highlight their similarities at the beginning of the movie.

Gosh, the Harry Potter flip is genius. When you think about it, not allowing anyone to say or remember a person’s name or deeds correctly and being remembered as a villain is a super evil curse to cast on someone. I always thought not even saying a villain’s name is kinda dumb because you’re kinda hobbling your societies ability to recognize the evil person and find ways to defeat them, but if it was actually a curse meant to hide the truth and make the name owner suffer it would make so much more sense!

You did a good job with these! One of the things I've noticed in animation - Disney in particular - what makes the biggest difference between villains and heroes is the eyebrows. Heroes can smirk and can have that 'I'm better than you' look, but it's the arch of the eyebrows that show if they are really a good person or not. With Gaston, he is everything a hero should be. Cocky, brave, good looking, charismatic, etc, but because his eyebrows are not only so large and dark, they are highly arched. Similar to Vanessa, she is practically a copy of Bell. Large eyes, softer features, elegant, but it's those eyebrows. If they were softened, I bet no one would be able to tell that she is actually a sea-witch in disguise.

There are a few aspects between heroes and villains that make them different, but I would say that the main two from a visual and character standpoint are colors and morals. Color pallete is super important for determining a hero or a villain. Brighter colors are typically associated with heroes, blues, yellows, pinks, but that's not always the case. The best example of this is green, which is typically associated with villains, think the bright green of Maleficent's flames, though again, it can also be for heroes like Hulk. Red is a neutral color, think heroes like Iron Man and Spider-Man or Villains like Jafar and Gaston. Purple and black though? Yep, those are villain colors. The main key thing to take away I guess is the idea of light vs dark. Giving the hero a brighter color to contrast the darkness of the villain is the easiest way to quickly visualize things, and adding contrasting colors similarly helps. Of course, if you know what you're doing, you can break these conventions and do something completely different. As for morals, those really are key for determining good and evil. Think about Harry and Voldemort. Both are extremely powerful wizards, both have access to a spell that can kill people, and yet their morals separate them. Harry doesn't want to use the killing curse, but Voldy is slinging it around left and right. Making sure your hero and villain have clearly contrasting morals like that can help separate them, while also drawing parallels. Think of it like "if my hero went down a darker path, this is who he'd end up as." Again like the colors, it's not a hard and fast rule, but it's probably the simplest effective way to get that point across. If anyone else wants to add onto this, feel free! I love seeing the different interpretations people have on these things, and how other people depict this sort of contrast in more unconventional ways.
@I-Am-Creative-Coops Жыл бұрын
I think the different colour for villains and heroes started when coloured comics were being produced. Usually it's Primary colors (Red, Yellow and Blue) for heros and Secondary colors (Orange, Green and Purple) for villains.
@SexyDave01 Жыл бұрын
Heroes and villains are not born but made(Not their looks but their concepts). Sometimes, the artistic output might be contrasting compared to the character's actual story, the most important thing in determining a villain or hero is the plot. Even Jazza incorporated this simple but powerful concept to manifest his imaginations to we, the audience.

@Jazza Dude, with how you basically rewrote the stories for the characters, I think you should write a book.

I enjoyed this immensely. Reminded me of the good old Character design sessions with storytelling that I really enjoyed. Similar to “cutest character ever” or “scariest character ever”. I had expected him to only change the designs, but flipping the narratives really sold it for me.

I love the vibe and the re-imagining going into this. Great work Jazza. I feel like the hand over to Alecia should have been done as a collaboration with Insert Art. Both channels focusing on what they bring to the table.

This was amazing! the drawings and the stories you all put together is just beautiful and love that in reality, especially for the Beauty and the beast one, you didn't really change all that much. The subtle changes made all the difference. Its awesome! However, personally, I don't think movie Gaston is understood. I think he does too much suspicious stuff to make him misunderstood. But I love this new take on him and all the other characters. It's really cool!
