Okay, my opinion on AI art: It is annoying when people called the art work as theirs, that they had worked on it. when they sell the images as their own, when they haven't worked on it at all. Yet, I have chatgpt, I do us Ai for references or for colour patterns, because when it comes down to me trying to make the colours match well enough that it doesn't look strange, I would use ai to help a bit. I would use it for landscape references that I can't find online. Or I would ask it a few questions on an idea of have, which would actually help inspire me to work on the project. Also it is used for music as well, I can't remember the name of it, there are a few ai youtube channels that would produce music based around a game or a character from said game. I hate to admit it, but they can be really good, only problem is the ai voice, can't pronounce the names properly, which makes it distracting too. I hate Ai for the reason that people are selling the work and claiming it as their own; but I like it, because it does make things a bit easier for me, when it comes down to references or trying to gain inspiration.

i'm a doctor and professor. I find myself to be pretty creative and try to do good lectures and engage the students, both in the classroom as in the virtual social media world. That said, I have 2 left hands. I can't draw. I'd love to have an artist to do my slides, my yt and instagram covers, but i don't. And I can't pay someone to do that in the timeframe i'd like. That said, AI has helped me creating more engaging talks - i did one about chest pain where the "diseases" were "inside out characters", I think it helped reaching my students. I use AI images to have a more cohesive color pallet and style throughout the presentation, thus more visually appealing. Is it right, is it wrong? I don't know. But I do belive e helps me deliver my message in a better way.

It's so convenient that the Huion comes with everything you need to plug it into your computer. That's why I bought one - cause it came with a cable. 🤪 I just think there might be some better selling point than: It comes with the same cable that you get with every USB device.

This is absolutely an important conversation to have. Until now, I have only been surrounded by those negatively affected by AI and it’s certainly causing harm to the community. But on the other hand, being someone who was taught a lot about history, I know that AI won’t be going away. And it COULD be a very useful tool. It DOES provide a way to improve art and make it accessible for those who do not have a huge budget. AI will not be going away. But like all inventions, there is a way to use the knowledge and technology to improve and elevate art while minimizing its damage. It’s exploded because not only is it like a ‘fun new toy,’ but because money is the ultimate gateway in our society, and greedy corporations will do anything to save a dollar. So… What can we do to make it so AI can provide an avenue for poor creators to do what they never could before while limiting the constant overflow of AI art avalanching artists from being able to pursue their passion and be recognized for their creativity? It’s a conversation that needs to be had. And it’s not going to happen if we let fear of AI keep us in the dark, or let excitement for AI blind us to the harm it causes.

I recently learned about the exact process that AI art is essentially a very powerful de-noising program, its trained on increasingly noisy images and told how much noise is in them relative to an original until it can from instructions alone, essentially delude itself into deriving and image from pure noise based off the base seed. That said, I take at the very least, a hard stance if an AI is trained on an artists work without give consent, and at this point I'll clarify that sweeping predatory TOS's that are clearly designed to stealth steal a bunch of training data is wrong, illegal, and should be worthy of theft and lost work style sentences. A bit of backroom non-commercial tinkering is not my concern, though people forgoing a skill for the less ethical version of lego-alchemy and claiming to be artists if obviously a stance I am not for, I myself for non-professional purposes have fiddled with AI art for making random nonsense to fill out ideas that I'll springboard off of. But in a professional settings this should have been the work of a concept artist. AI, or rather, large language models, aka, heavily trained pattern recognition models that cannot think in any way, making the whole label literally a dude-bro sales pitch, are very useful, for fields outside of art and outside of corporate bullshitery, they are being used to make fantastic advances. But with AI art its very clear that with a lowered bar to entry some will feel inclined to take advantage. A final philosophical point I'll sum my thoughts up with: No law was ever made for the person who would not break it, who would do the right thing when no one was looking. They were made to discourage and prevent expressly bad actors, exploiters, corner cutters, the selfish and the greedy. Planes fell out of the sky because of cheap bolts. People died because of cheap bolts. Rules, regulations, and laws, are written in blood.

If you're working in other mediums, like clay or other sculpting techniques, or the digital world (like making games or movies), I can see how AI could be cool to conceptualize your ideas. But as for it being a creative outlet for people to be equal to, let's say, drawing or painting...nah. I tried Dall-e and Midjourney and nowhere did I ever get the same dopamine hit as when I actually create something myself. A prompt will never be the same or equal to a paintbrush in your hand.

I work as a full time illustrator and the company is slowly replacing us with AI. They keep saying they wont but the creep has been insidious. We are expected to use AI in our process and we are punished for not by harsher deadlines as it should be easier now AI is involved, and the AI is being trained on our illustrations. One problem is that it is making the quality suffer as a consequence, our illustrations are usually checked over for quality and it seems as though they are much more lax on the AI images than the wholly "human made" ones. There is a real downgrade in output quality and it's hard to take pride in your work when something else does it and makes it look... bad. But that AI made image is being pushed and we are being relegated from people who got to draw for a living, to people who have to edit AI images for a living and produce work at a faster pace because it should be easier now. Its incredibly depressing. And the company still gets to pretend that everything is made by happy illustrators.

The thing is it takes along time to master but once you get it down like second nature. Procreate is about as good as it gets. I also recommend a matte screen cover to feel more like paper and not so slippery on the glass. But I’m about a bit of fan as infinite painter and procreate as anyone on earth. That’s the only two you ever need on apple and android

@Jazza So this description is not from a particular book but is from my Call of Cthulhu D&D game and I'd be fascinated to see it come to life on paper and out of my brain. Here are the creature details: 6ft lanky emaciated man. Crawls on floor using elbows and feet. His hind legs end in goats hooves. His elbows appear like goat hooves but are actually partially exposed bone. His forearms are like preying mantis talons which when crawling, he tucks under himself. They extend out when attacking. His body is covered in black shaggy hair. The head is gaunt and slightly deformed looking goat like. bloodshot eyes with black hair draping across his face. The lower jaw is missing. Thick drool oozing from his mouth with a sharp proboscis poking out of his throat waiting to feed.

This is the most balanced and well informed take I've seen about AI, and it's very refreshing. It's a shame it's so difficult to have a conversation about these things with people being so polarized. I'd love to see more of your thoughts in this space. One thing I think isn't brought up enough is the potential to enable people that wouldn't otherwise be able to express themselves the way they want to with art, weather that be due to physical disability, lack of skill and practice, or even just shyness or apprehension. It can be particularly hard for adults to get into art, because they're a lot more self conscious about their limitations compared to children. It's a lot easier for adults trying to get into art to feel inadequate and give up, but AI could give them something to build off of, and practice beside, and experiment with. I do think there's more ethical paths for the way AI can and ought to be used; but it's frustrating to see what could be a burgeoning new medium reduced to vilification built on presumption and assumption. There's genuinely interesting things you only do with AI, and there's things AI will never be able to replace; I would argue this is an indisputable fact. I think it's interesting that people don't seem to criticize AI as much when they aren't taking it seriously, such as meme shitposting; but the idea that one could try, even with the best of intentions and precautions, to explore this medium in a more serious or personal way is seen as unthinkable to most people. Certainly, I think that ridiculing anyone for personal non-monetized use of AI for self entertainment is just ridiculous. If people want to play with AI for fun, and they're not looking to profit off it it, or call it anything other than what it is, I say what's the harm? I'm sure I'll get called out for my opinions; it is a rather polarizing topic, but I really do wish there could be more nuance and rational discussion about the topic rather than what's currently taking place across most of the internet.

My main problem with AI art is that, I, as a consumer, do not want to consume it. It's equivalent to looking at a roadkill, it may still look cute, but it has no life, no aspiration, and it makes me honestly sad. It's like calculated pixels without meaning being shoved into my face.

The only ethical way to use AI is if it was trained on public domain images and/or your own artwork only. Also, talking about fighting environmental issues. AI is heavily contributing to the problem. So if anyone care about protecting our planet, I dont see how you can use AI, especially because it is a completely optional thing that we dont need for society to function.

People being black and white on issues and not listening to each other is the pinnacle of our issues today, in all aspects, not just AI. I applaud you for this video. We do indeed need to have civil conversations and address each issue at hand in a logical manner. People's emotions tend to get in the way of that and hinders progress. We should focus on the bigger issues first, such as corporations using AI when they could have hired someone. Ethics of using AI need to be **firmly** set. I actually had a little convo with ChatGPT about this, albeit more about misinformation, and came up with some interesting conclusions. I'll post the convo in a reply to this message if anyone is interested.

I feel like the worst part is how much it discourages people. A lot of my friends wanted to do art now I am the only one who does they all gave up on their dreams for it and it’s depressing. My issue is we seem to be using it for the wrong reasons. If we were able to use it in sciences, maths and technologies we could strive to possibly make buildings capable of withstanding disasters, or develop new efficient ways to use renewable energy, or even help develop theories we couldn’t even comprehend. If we could do that, then why be so caught up in trying to replace artists, I understand the money thing and greed but like surely it’ll be better if we put it into bettering the life in our world and if they are really that greedy wouldn’t you get more for making innovations then trying to send artists into unemployment. Let’s leave art to artists and the creative stuff to people who wanna put the effort in to make it :)

As a small artist who lost the "spark" years ago and is now struggling to come back on track , seeing the fast evolution of AI makes me wanna give up. Creating art has been something I loved to do for many years. I even considered going into illustration or animation as a carreer option before, but now everthing seems unsure and scary. My partner, on the other hand, is very invested and fascinated by AI and doesn't seem to understand just where I'm coming from, when I tell him my worries around the topic. Right now I don't see any reason why we'd need Ai recreating art. I understand that it can be useful in other areas of life, I simply wish people would leave the creative part out of it. I wish people could focus on making art, music and movies, while AI helps with curing diseases and fightng global warming.

Another bandwagon. Adobe did not fall, the industry standard, used by every self-respected agency or freelancer. Adobe is not expensive. Stop following the hate bandwagon. This whole thing is about how artists are being exploited for value. they dont get anything in return despite contributing to the making and functioning of AI. this is why its dangerous. i find it wild that people are arguing more about free will and consent and the philosophy of art. this says a lot about the current zeitgeist and the dominant ideological anchors of our time more than it actually helps to produce solutions for us artists who would really like to know whether we can still reliably feed ourselves and family. imo those philosophical talking points are just distractions, and would really encourage everyone to move on from it. argue about cool solutions to this problem, not about whether AI is good or bad.
