It was my science class in high school when my teacher told me that when we die we can become a tree where you're buried like in a pod - basically you're a huge human seed fertiliser. I like how this guy puts the perspective of death, it's a process of life, so hey, be a tree when you die! Trees are cool.

Chris A Personally I think I would want this option when I die. And I think it’d be a better idea to plant it in a place that was significant to that person.

The problem with that is that some of the fluids that come out during decomposition can render the soil useless
@kamehalani23597 жыл бұрын
Veganwhovian I like that idea but I agree with Chris What if later on in like years that place where it was planted got destroyed because you know how people are destroyed trees to make space if it one day did get destroyed what are you going to do Go Back In Time?

@MsThe1girl7 жыл бұрын
DDEK123 DDEK123 the thing is ,im not defining opinion. Im pointing out in a civilised manner ,that your statement, "not really, but we won't judge" is deamining. It's like how you described your ideal girl , then i tell you "your girl isnt really georgus, but i wont judge you for liking a non-georgus person. Appreciating one thing , doesnt have to equal putting down something else , you see? She is georgus. Your girl is georgus to They can both be georgus.
@cmars837 жыл бұрын
I am super psyched to see Buzzfeed do a video on this topic. Because contrary to what she says at the beginning, this is not weird at all. Every one of us is going to need a plan for after we die and I think it is smart to think about all of the options ahead of time. One thing to keep in mind if your goal for your death is to be as "green" as possible, is that cremation itself isn't necessarily a "greener" option. You definitely don't take up space in the same way you would if you were buried, but the act of cremation itself (even with no embalming, no casket etc) does still pump pollution into the air. I say that as someone who has chosen that option for myself - so no judgement - just be very aware of the realities of cremation if your goal is to "go green" in death. I HIGHLY recommend Caitlin Doughty's KZbin channel "Ask a Mortician." She is an alternative death professional in California and is very active in the conversation of modern death traditions and options and dispels a lot of rumours around what is "required" when someone dies vs what the funeral industry will pressure you into.

This is cool and all, but these options are not the best for he environment, except maybe donating your body to science. Cremation produces a ton of pollution and even if you grow a tree with your ashes I’m not sure it’s a good idea. A natural burial is the best thing you can do, and most likely when you decompose it will help the soil and maybe grow a tree anyway. Your body is tossed into a hole in the ground and buried without being put into a coffin or filled with chemicals. It’s a way better option, but whatever you do, don’t get a burial with a coffin because it’s the worst of all the options.

This is thinking way ahead of time (I hope), but I really wanna do the tree one. By dying, I'm helping to create new life and preserve the planet, while also providing life to other people because of producing oxygen. I just think that by me dying, managing to help others at the same time and becoming a literal part of the Earth is a beautiful and a really good idea environmentally.

Cremation is also an aggressive and expensive way! There is an option that is a pod witch the body goes in intact, and the seed of a tree is inserted in the pod. And then as the body naturally decomposes the tree gets the organic matter and uses it to grow.

I wouldn't mind if there were special, designated areas where people could plant their biourns. It'd be a different type of cemetary full of trees/flowering plants/shrubs grown from loved ones rather than a field of caskets. Definitely may be more beautiful, but also may be useful in dealing with the whole space issue...plus you know, we could always use more plants right? Food for thought.

In my country, there are very few legal options. Recently, they banned eco friendly caskets made of recycled cardboard, also other than donating to science, I don't think any of the other options are even available. When my father died, we cremated him (he didn't want a funeral) and poured his ashes into a river, but we had to do it in the middle of the night since it's illegal to dispose of them outside of a few set places. Also the urn was sealed so firmly, it took us like an hour to get him out of there! My ideal choice would be the tree - I´m thinking cherry or empress or maybe wisteria. Hope it's possible when the time comes

I have my will since last year (I'm 21) The memorial glass is a cool idea! I'm also pleasantly surprised by how cheap the tree urns are

it’s great that I’m not the only young person already giving serious consideration to what happens to my corpse after I die. quite a relief actually. also many young military members already have wills and burial arrangements. kinda necessary.

Yo on a serious note is it possible to have these type of burials when your religion has a specific way to be buried? I don’t want to be buried the way my religion says. But i’m scared no one will listen to me. I don’t want just to lay in the ground and decompose . Is it possible. I’m scared . I don’t even believe in my religion.

You would need to have a person you can trust and a lawyer to make a will with instructions for your burial in the event your family doesn't follow it that person you trust has the power to sue your family on your behalf.

You need a will and a pre-need arrangement that you have already pre-paid. No one can argue when you have already paid, and signed a contract for what you want. Also an executor who you trust.

The way you're buried is a legal thing. Your religion can't do anything if you have a will

Making a Will is necessary for everyone that has something to leave to another, it less confusing to those who have to deal with our belongings once we are no longer here, so I would encourage everyone to do this. I never realised that there were so many options for a body once it was no longer of use "Dead" I think they're are other alternatives to the three shown so a part 2 should be considered.

I want half of my ashes to go to be made into a tree, and the other half to go to becoming memorial glass, which I then want to be some kind of family heirloom necklace because both are nice. If I was turned into a tree, especially one that makes seeds, my tree could make more trees. And the memorial glass necklace could be passed down through generations.

I decided awhile back to do either the coral reef option or tree option after donating my organs. I actually have been putting off the glass one for my two dogs that passed not long ago but I will be doing it.

My mom used to play the organ for funerals, so we always knew exactly what she wanted sung at her funeral, what flowers she wanted, and that she wanted to be cremated. Knowing what she wanted ahead of time took away a lot of the pressure from the family when she died. I think it's a very good thing to have a will and a funeral plan even when you're young. You can always change it, but at least your family knows. For me, I said that I wanted to be an organ donor if possible because I would like to save somebody's life or give somebody their eyesight back if I could.
