They would have still evolved eventually. Midnight club came out 1 year after the first driver, and I’m sure they may have taken some ideas, but it’s pretty clear they were moving to 3D when newer consoles and hardware came out. I honestly doubt the games would still look like this, as the only times they have really looked this way, was due to hardware limitations. I mean GTA 4 came out before Chinatown wars, and Chinatown wars is a over the top version of liberty city with the DS and PSP hardware in mind.

Rockstar should release more 2d GTA, imo they are way underrated. This games are so adrenalinic and so arcade compared to the 3d ones. GTA 2, Chinatown Wars and 1 are my favorite of the series.
