Ah, Mage Knight: Apocalypse, I remember watching Ross' Game Dungeon episode on it. Good stuff. I remember seeing the game a lot in various gaming magazines as a kid. Back then I was pretty hyped about it, but I never actually played it myself for some reason. Say, have you ever heard of an RPG called ETROM: The Astral Essence? 9:44 they are not player controlled, but they are players who ascended and had their character become a boss for other players. If its like the old 360 version, it means that you gain 5 max level, so its like NG+ and you gain 5max level each time you ascend. And every time you do your character is eternalized as a miniboss for other players. So technically, If you absolutely splurge on the cash shop you can aquire power and twink out a level 20 boss character that will melt newcomers

I believe Ross Scott has covered Mage Knight: Apocalypse as well and I think he'd agree. Pretty entertaining Game Dungeon. It has been a while that I played through Heretic Kingdoms so things are a bit vague, but I remember mostly liking it. But yeah, the world -building was better than the actual plot and I also don't remember a single character. Edit: "Tower of Time" may be an option. Not that obscure, but I guess that is also true for some of the others games in this series. "Prelude to Darkness" comes to mind as well. I haven't played it, but some people say good things about it. Free, I think. "The Chosen - Well of Souls" is another one that Ross Scott has covered and I believe it's also free. "Soulbringer" has most likely been mentioned, but doesn't hurt to throw it in the ring again. Just some that came to mind right now.

Woah man, quite a surprise to see Gladiator and Knight's Contract here. Both are obscure as all get-out. I've stumbled across your channel before, which i believe is how i got known with Venetica and Blades of Time, but didn't check you out much afterwards. It's quite nice to see you still going, and wish you a lot of fun and good stuff on further ventures, for YT or otherwise. Though i've never actually played it despite being interested in it, i'm glad for your quite level-headed and kind verdict to Knight's Contract. Seems to have a lot of good, or at least interesting, stuff going for it, and getting to experience the good stuff first-hand can be tough because of those biggest issues. Together with Tactical Bacon's Productions, this is some of the most attention (and still quite positive, at that) i've seen being given to K'sC this year. I believe the same studio behind Knight's Contract also developed a game by name of Folklore. A rare PS3 exclusive with collecting and assigning Fae creatures to one of four buttons, to have that creature summoned to perform an attack. I have it, haven't finished it, but it sticks with me. Also cool to learn you've played Darksiders 2! I don't know if that game appeared in one of those videos, but i hope you had a good experience with it.

I played Ascend: Hand of Kul in the Beta on 360 and actually have every achievement. You never fight real players, just ghost Avatars. I loved that game, and I was in the top 100 of the leaderboards during the beta period. It was the first game that anyone ever asked me "How I got so high" in the leaderboard. Of course, that didn't last long when it released worldwide. Once the game ran out of content I stopped playing, but Microsoft stiffed the updates, and the studio couldn't actually update the game proper. I "Ascended" one last time before the servers closed.

This is just my theory, but: I was a fan of Mage Knight miniatures back in the day, and there was always a rumor in the early days of that game that there was going to be an MMO, but after only a few expansions, the Mage Knight tabletop game started to lose momentum. I personally think that they originally were going to make an MMO in the mage knight universe, but then didn't make the funds that they thought they were going to, and then fell back on making that game.

In all seriousness, great chunk of games as always, and happy to see a good mix of stuff I've never heard of and stuff I've played (and suggested!). I'm 100% with you with Knight's Contract too; a total love/hate kinda game. I was determined to beat it for Halloween 3 or 4 years ago - I mean, thematically, it's _perfect_ for the season! - but just couldn't do it. The goddamn cathedral roof boss that you smash through the roof and then fight on the burning elevator is a real class-A all-time example of a piece of s h i t. Just nearly totally broken; it just hits you and you fall off the elevator and f u c k you, you're dead. I lost my mind so much trying to bring that fat b i t c h down, and just couldn't do it. The abundance of crazy strict and insanely punishing QTEs utilized for actually finishing the bosses was the icing on the cake; it's like _daring_ you to give up. And I happily obliged! It absolutely caused me to rage quit, and I don't regret it - my sanity is worth it. The moment-to-moment action combat is pretty enjoyable, but the bosses are game killers, 100%. Real shame.
