Yeah I think the main reason he hasn’t gotten more traction is because of KZbin’s algorithm, it’s rewarding shorter content with like daily or every other day uploads. If KZbins algorithm was based on quality this guy would have at least 50,000 subscribers. But alas quality content takes longer than a day or 2 to edit and so KZbin’s algorithm isn’t going to push him. But I hope he knows that his quality is much much much more appreciated! Don’t change your quality for subs, but also don’t be afraid to roll the dice on some shorter easier video ideas If your goal or want is to grow faster! ❤️

@@tankytots696 Hey thanks mang, but honestly I'm not very consistent and this channel has a very low amount of videos (only 16 as of this one). The card game niche is also incredibly small, there really aren't many variety card game channels that don't have a main game people come for. I'm just trying to make the type of content I'm not seeing in the niche! Kinda bringing a little bit of the old school video game reviewer (normal boots) flair to cardboard.

I think it would be interesting to see TCGs/LCGs where combat isn't the main focus. Usually it might have to be incorporated in some way to keep the amount of placeable cards on the board in check but when the goal is to just do as much damage as possible or stall the game until you can overpower your opponent it starts to feel repetitive.

Academy of Arts seems like it took a significant amount of inspiration from Flesh and Blood. With the heros with different stats and abilities, and that "stack on a chain" is kinda like the combat chain, but the combat chain resolves as it goes.

Getting gem screwed is a particular element that you simply have to build your deck around in Gem Blenders. Can confirm. It usually just allows you enough resources to circumvent it that it is rarely an issue if you know what you are doing (during deck construction).

if you like rise's visual keywords (i know you did deep down) i recommend playing inscryption, it's a solo sort-of roguelike (as in it's just not rogue-like for its entirety) deck-builder; with a focus on card placement (grid board, creatures can only attack opposing space), customizing your deck and breaking the game (it also has 4 archetypes, each using its own ressource)

Oh my.. that Varia's 10 point system is interesting! I can imagine a variation where Players place a LOT of cards on the board they cannot possibly pay for, and for the Opponent to prioritize what to respond to and try to come out the victor (spending cards and such) on mini battlefields you might not end up paying anything for.. but keeping them away and distracted from a different spot! It could make for an interesting game of chicken.

@@CardGameCrypt Well, I've got 2 projects, one called Phytora which I've got videos about. It's a battle card game where you win by attacking directly to get a certain amount of points. I've stopped working on it because it had some fundamental flaws in my opinion, the other project I haven't publicly shown yet, but you're a chef competing against your opponent to get customers. You play food cards to customers and whoever has the higher total value wins the customer. After a few rounds of that whoever has the most customer points wins.

Most of these do not look great. The massive rush and design of TCGs has definitely led to a lot of derivative games, or games with very little proper playtesting (especially blind playtesting). Out of all of these, I think Academy of Arts and Varia seem the most interesting. AoA, while looking like Flesh and Blood (including the graphic design) appears to play quite differently with a very different resource system (while derivative of many modern TCGs, the split in Light and Dark is unique) and a different game tempo. Varia might be the most unique one I've seen, but the dice definitely doesn't grab my interest. I know someone who picked up RISE and I will admit, it's a very beautiful game. But the mechanics and "Complexity" look terrible.
