I love seeing developers that interact with their community, it's almost always a sure sign of a passion project they want to improve. That isn't there just to generate income, but to share the dreamt world of their team with a wider audience (32 fish is an unhinged boss fight and I love it). I will always and forever love Indie developers, and it always makes me happy to see them interacting with people critiquing their work. If any of you game makers out there see this, we love you. Hey Mr Pineapple, thanks for playing our demo! We are actually about to release a completely reworked version within the next few weeks... Great timing lol.
@MycoRelic7 ай бұрын
I actually agree with alot of your feedback about the game. The good news is that we have been actively improving all of these problems over the past few months. In particular, improving the feel of melee combat, but also completely redesigning the level to feel less like a dead mmo and more like a souls-like game with intentional enemy placement. The version in this video is very scope creepy and you can tell we went in far too many directions at once. When we re release the demo, we hope that players will find it to be more straightforward and indicative of the direction of the game. I appreciate your friend mentioning that it's hard to make a co-op game that feels good to play solo, as that is something that weighs on our design sessions heavily. Something we find frustrating about souls games is the process of summoning your friends. I pride myself on the fact that we have functional co-op multiplayer through steam and I appreciate that you realize how difficult that is to pull off. Thanks for your feedback, I hope you have time give it another try in a few months.

That plushie game is bizarre. The assets clash, it looks very low-quality, yet they actually look like they put a huge amount of effort in, especially in the cinematics and morphing scenery in boss fights and stuff. Rise of Rebellion gives me the vibe of these Unreal 5 indie projects that promise the entire world and have absolutely no concept of "feature creep" or "limits". Seriously, it looks impressive but, as Pineapple said, it's so incredibly overwhelming and overengineered to the point where engaging with the basic gameplay loop is exhausting. The player progression system would probably be based of Feng Shui and a complex cultivation simulation system that is comprised of tons of individual elements that do not do much on their own but misplacing even a single one would leave your build in shambles ten hours later, y'know? Like, there's no real sense for UX and there's a focus on the individual mechanics and systems without a comprehensive look on how the entire experience will be like. But then again, that is me basing this off a demo in what look to be barely a pre alpha.

Plushie in the Sky reminded me so much of the random PS1 video games I'd rent from Blockbuster when I was a kid. They were always wacky and had so much variety in them. I would never know what to expect! I love that it reminded me of those earlier times in gaming. It gave the game so much charm and a tinge of sad nostalgia for things that are gone now (which I think ties into the story of the game a little). It was so silly and cute but with a little bit of underlying darkness. It also reminded me of Kingdom Hearts in places. I hope the dev keeps making more games! (And my SPOILER theory is that only one sister died. It said Watermelon won and "you" lost, so that to me sounds like one survived. Also, the plushie giving up the halo to the girl seems to hint at sacrifice as well.)

I'm glad to hear you loved Another Crab's Treasure as much as the demo. It's such a fun original concept, even a dark goth like me loves it. More than the concept, though, the mechanics are amazing! I've recommended it to people looking for Souls-likes since you did the demo and a streamer I watch, Vienna the Vtuber, played through the game and has been raving about how it's a masterpiece! She's recommending it to everyone, can't wait til I can get it!

If I'm interpreting the ending to Plushie from the Sky correctly; It seems like the twins died while playing VR so their souls were sucked into the machine. However, watermelon was still free to act while pineapple was trapped in the code so to speak. Watermelon's journey was to free pineapple's soul so they could then successfully ascend to heaven... or wherever... which is why they have the halos.

I think Pineapple wasn't so much trapped in the code as they were trapped in their "role". One player is the "player" while the other seems to control all the monsters.

yeah, thx, i couldnt remember the name. Thats what it reminded me of when they started the whole "attack in this direction" and "block in that direction" tutorials. That looked so cool and seemed to take an realistic approach but i guess the fighting game analogy was good too, all those inputs man. seemed very tough.

Angeline Era is just the OG Legend of Zelda's mechanics! The same obstacle course design where each square map is its own little challenge room. Zelda itself got away from that in its later 2D or 2.5D games, but this is such a fun and thoughtful way to push those mechanics forward.

The bump combat is more of an oldschool Ys thing
@analgesicproductions7 ай бұрын
level designer of Angeline era here! yep, we take influence from og Zelda but also the dungeon design of our games anodyne 1 and 2. In particular we liked the idea that you only need to kill a subset of enemies to open the doors - and within this we created a little design language in each room where you cAn try to puzzle out which enemies actually need to be killed to open the door! I think this contributes to each room feeling thoughtfully designed.

Rise of Rebellion is an example of trying to do TOO MUCH. Until we grow extra fingers there are some games like Rise of Rebellion that just don't work because of how many different things they want you to do. If really difficult souls-like games is a "niche" audience. This is a hyper niche of a niche audience.
@vlc-cosplayer7 ай бұрын
Just do the Armored Core reverse grip, GG ez 😏
@pf91887 ай бұрын
I feel that for most of the Souls audience, the fighting game style of Rise of Rebellion isn't exactly a logical route to go. Seeing how fast paced the action is in combination with how many different inputs there are reminds me of trying Tekken 7 or, for a closer analogue, Blade Symphony many years ago. It feels overwhelming to get into as a newcomer, and mastering these games requires literal years of learning and practice just to execute moves. Combining that with a story driven RPG... well we'll see how it goes I guess.

@@pf9188 Or For Honor
@Dekharen7 ай бұрын
@@pf9188 To be fair, I expect that making the fighting simpler (mostly defensive moves) could make it quite cool. If you don't NEED to use everything, and if you can properly answer to most attacks by doing default inputs, but you also can gain an edge by comboing into fun stuff, it can become a great power fantasy. I guess we have to see where it goes !
@moster876543216 ай бұрын
I genuinely prefer games that give you a lot of mechanics off the bat. It’s overwhelming at first, but it eventually becomes satisfying to master and makes combat fun through the whole game. Compared to a game like ghost of Tsushima where you’re just spamming X/square, I prefer this combat much more. MH is the same way!

I'm glad we have Ys enjoyers here, they are some incredible games and the older ones are genuinely difficult. Ys 1 final boss took me like 2 hours, that boss was so wacky lol. Even though the newer games are definitely more leaning towards modern JRPGs (Ys 8 is my favourite in the series, and Ys 9 is fantastic too), I'll always have a soft spot for the older games. Origin has an incredible story and characters and Felghana is just a perfect mix of difficult but satisfying boss fights and compelling story. I didn't enjoy Napishtim as much, I think some of the mechanics in that game definitely have not aged well (I hate jump dashing), but it's still a decent game imo

I don't know why but Plushie from the Sky stole my heart. its so heartily made and so many of the ideas are actually so cool and interesting. i wish it had a bigger group working on it because with a more elegant artstyle and reducing the jank it could be incredible (although the jank does add to it lmao)
