Sorry for how long this video is, obviously I had a whole lot of footage to work with and I'm still figuring out how to edit this style of game and what to leave in/cut out 😭 I hope it isn't too boring watching me explore and be confused! Also full disclosure I'm not sure if I'm gonna make this a full playthrough because I am clearly not a natural at this and the game might take me forever, but I'm gonna try to get as far as I can. Hope you join me & Jason for the ride!

Never watched anything from this channel before, but it always makes me very happy to see someone jump into FromSoft games for the first time! Just one thing I wanna point out: When you say that difficulty is not the first thing you're drawn to when it comes to video games, that's also true for most of us Souls junkies. We weren't drawn to these games because of them being "hard", we were drawn to them because they are one of a kind experiences that cannot be found anywhere else. That being said, these games really are not as bad as so many people say they are. All that these games ask of you is that you pay attention, remain mindful of what you're doing and be willing to meet them on their own terms. Nobody is good at these games when they first play them, believe me. The first Souls game experience is ALWAYS the most magical one! I hope you enjoy it! I also hope this will inspire you and give you the confidence to explore the Souls games and even Elden Ring! Because they really are such intensely beautiful experiences! Good luck and good job, new hunter!

massive tip: you get 1 chance to get your blood echoes back when you die. they'll either be on the ground near where you died, or on an enemy close to where you died (indicated by glowing eyes). BUT if you die again before retrieving them they're gone for good.

Killing the giant with the huge axe is actually pretty impressive. I had played Demon's Souls and Dark Souls a lot before Bloodborne, and that guy still took me a lot of tries to kill him without getting chopped dead myself. Once the way this game is being played is understood, this actually looks really quite good.

Good luck. This game is a one of a kind. Feels so nostalgic seeing you play it. It gets a while to get used to, especially if you never played a From Software game before. (It was my first Souls game too.) Watching you play was cute. Keep going, It's only going to get harder as you keep going but you'll also become stronger and learn the basics from this first area. Okay, a few things to help you: 1: you can run in this game. It's the roll button, circle and keep holding it, it's a dumb input for a run, but it's like that. Usually we stop running before the stamina is empty because if it does empty completely, you can't run anymore should you need, you get used to it. 2 :you started doing that, you need to target enemies whenever it's convenient, which is 99% of the time. 3: your weapon has two modes and many attacks depending on the previous movement, running, dodging, etc, try them out, see what you like, what feels good. 4: Don't hesitate to heal, better to have 0 vials left than to die. 5 : your gun is to parry enemies, which is done by hitting them with a bullet when they are ... should we say, out of balance, usually in the middle of an attack animation. 6: related to paries, if you backstab with a fully charged R2 or if you parry, you can perform a visceral attack, which is done by getting close (touching them) to the enemy and pressing R1. You have the time to do two dodges forward (if locked on) to take the visceral if you parry with the gun, it takes a bit to get used to it. Essentially in BB and in fromsoftware games, you either go slow and methodical or run past everything. It's usually better to go slow when you don't know what's ahead, and then you can run past things if you don't have an interest killing things. The blood vials in this game is a bit of a punishing system, i recommend buying some everytime you level up with the rest of the echoes that didn't make it into a level. Hope that helps.

God I´m so glad that youtube recommended me videos of people playing my favourite game for the 1st time I really REALLY hope you keep playing it. It´s a bit overwhelming at the first time. But when it clicks...it´s amazing Keep trying, keep learning. From Software games are made in a way to reward players that learn from their failures. Try understanding how each enemy attacks and reacts to you, that way you will feel safer when going against them. Don´t be ashamed of googling things. This game has a lot of secrets and it doesn´t tell you a lot, so KZbin can help Explore a lot. Lot of items and npc that you can find out there Master your dodge and parry. These are essential mechanics of the game that, once learned, will make everything else smooth I love this game, and I´m looking forward to watch you git gud at it and beat it!!

Great video! Kudos to you for giving the game a second chance, despite initially having trouble with it. If I may, here is some insight into some of the more obtuse systems this game has: Notes: Notes are left by other players to either help or trick you. If a note has the "Appraisals" counter, it was left by a player. If a note is missing the counter, it was put there by the game developers. Phantoms: While playing, you will occasionally see transparent, white images of other hunters. These are visions of other players in the same area. If you see one, that person is playing the same level as you. Nothing important, but cool nonetheless. Spectres: The red ghosts you see when you interact with a Spectre are recordings of a player's last moments before they died. They are often examples of what not to do while playing a level, or can reveal potential traps ahead of you. Death: Your Blood Echoes are dropped on death, but they are not completely lost. If you return to the spot you died, you can reclaim the Echoes you had in the previous life. Occasionally, the game will assign your dropped Blood Echoes to an enemy. You can identify this when you see an enemy's eyes glowing. You will need to defeat the glowing-eyed enemy to recover your Echoes. Otherwise, the echoes will appear as a small red puddle on the ground. Enemy Respawning: Most enemies will respawn when you Return to the Hunter's Dream through a lamp or a Hunter's Mark. Bosses will never respawn once killed. Certain few enemies will not respawn, but the majority will. Stats: Bloodborne's Stats system is a bit simpler than other FromSoftware games. Increase Vitality to increase HP and Endurance for Stamina. I would recommend upgrading these until you feel comfortable fighting. Enemies will grow more challenging throughout the game, so consider continuing to improve your Vitality and Endurance to keep up. Strength, Skill, Bloodtinge, and Arcane enable you to use weapons and improve weapon damage. Weapons will have requirements based on these stats, and they will have a rating from E --> S based on how much each stat contributes to your damage. There are many weapons to find throughout the game. Once you feel comfortable with HP and Stamina, consider picking a weapon you like and upgrade the stats that help the weapon deal higher damage. Parrying: Firing your gun at an enemy can interrupt their attacks and leave them vulnerable to a critical hit. You successfully executed a parry on the troll at 1:31:45. Check out the sound effect that played when that happened, as well as the way the troll slumped forward, stunned. If you walk up to an enemy and hit R1 while they are in that state, you will execute a critical hit. This will be a valuable skill for much of the game. In general, you want to time the shot so it hits the enemy as they are lunging forward. Trolls are a great enemy to practice on. Additionally, and this is more of a note on the community than the game, there are many people in the FromSoftware games community who try to gate-keep players by telling them they did not play the games right. They try to take pride in playing these already-difficult games with additional restrictions, claiming that they are better at the game than you, or that you didn't get the "real" experience. Pay these people no mind. There are many beautiful and scary things waiting for you in this game, and you should discover and overcome their challenges in the way that is most fun for you. Best of luck to you, and I hope you can enjoy a magical first play-through of this game.

@@HollyElsa In general, try to exhaust dialogue of all the people you encounter too! If not face-to-face, you get to talk to NPCs whenever you come across orange lanterns near a building. Most NPCs give important information that's easy to miss. Also, I don't know if you care that much about the lore or story of the game, but if you do, you should consider reading the descriptions of the items you find. Most of them help on giving context or bits to help you paint the bigger picture. There's a lot of information that the game will not explicitly tell you, and as it was said above, we'll be happy to answer should you have any questions o/

Ah, I've found myself a hunter! Actually, it was Teh Algorithmz that offered up your playthrough to me (because I _clearly_ don't watch enough BB!) But I am happily diving in all the same. Thank you for allowing us Internet randos to witness the long, bloody process of opening your eyes on the inside. In your intro, you talk about it being the endtimes and you still hadn't finished BB. How bad could a post-apocalyptic hellscape be if you can still fire up your PlayStation? :D 17:13 "This is a learning experience." An extremely valuable perspective to have so early on. Nothing has the brutal efficiency of those accursed, blood red letters. 24:30 We all have to start at the beginning. Even the best BB player in the world had to learn how to do everything. 29:30 The sight of Jason calmly trotting through the streets despite being surrounded and chased by townsfolk is the pinnacle of ludicrous energy. 47:30 The best, most succinct way to describe BB strategy is thusly - Be the bravest coward you can be. Which, if yo'uve made it to Maria, you've already figured out, but its nice to have a written mantra. 53:05 Nicely done killing that chunky dude without dying! 54:15 "I'm off the one road I was on for an hour yesterday!" ... Use the bloodstone shards to upgrade your axe(you also need blood echos to afford the upgrade). It’ll help you do a lot more damage to enemies. You need the use the workshop which is in the hunters dream next to German. When leveling up only pick strength, endurance and vigor. The other stats like tinge and arcane are used for other “builds” like guns and certain beast weapons which you aren’t using. Stamina management is also crucial, if you keep hitting an enemy you won’t have enough stamina to dodge their attacks. Also if you use L1 you can activate your trick weapon which does more damage to enemies. But you won’t be able to use your gun to parry because you’ll need two hands to wield your trick weapon.

Take your time, first Fromsoft game can be a real kick in the ass. I gave Demon's Souls a try ages ago, got frustrated, quit then came back a year later and now it's one of my favorite games, and I'd consider Bloodborne a good bit harder. Best bit of advice I can give is explore and observe your surrounding carefully, check around corners etc. it'll save your life, but when it comes to combat be aggressive, the game rewards you for it, especially with the rally mechanic (the doing damage to heal yourself thing, you can even hit enemies after they die for a second of two and still get health back!). Just relax and have fun! We all had our butts handed to us by these games

Heres a bit of knowledge The first death is natural but also avoidable Starting origin matters only if you are going to play a min/max character to play online, as you are right now play as optimaly as you want. You need the first insight to unlock the ability to level UP but after that you can spend all of them (keep at least one), keeping insight high causes creepy stuff to happen The souls games have very little cutscenes and they don't explain much, you can unravel the story by reading the item descriptions and connect the dots that way. Be patient with yourself, dying is normal in the game but if you find yourself burning trough your resources i would advise to explore somewhere else first Perseverance is the key to success in this game Good luck and may the good blood guide your way.

So funny, I had the same issue when I started and couldn’t work out where my weapons were. Longest hour of my life

elden ring seems slightly more forgiving than this

It is. It's much more accessible and convenient for everyone. But Elden Ring has ridicoulous end game bosses that need balancing fixes. I've never seen bosses this unfair in a souls game before like I've seen in Elden Ring.

@@StardustCrusader18 agree, more accessible, but less accessible end game boss designs in elden ring

Love this game but even I admit how bad it is in terms of being user friendly to new players.

New players? Or new gamers? This is a video game bro not some Brand new never before done thing. If you played literally any other video game it's pretty obvious there are things you gotta do. Like equip, weapons, look at your inventory etc. Sure there are a bunch of mechanics and info to learn but the majority of it you don't even need lol
