I Played Bootleg Super Mario World

Hi folks, enjoy this video of Chinese Super Mario World, a bootleg version of SMW recreated for the Famicom. This was... quite an experience and was definitely pretty rough. Hope you enjoy the adventure.

Considering this was made by a pirate developer, Hummer Team, in 1995 with little to no budget probably in some Taiwanese basement, this is actually impressive. It apparently took them a year to develop this.

What amazes me most is the amount of unique sprites. If you've seen the video of how they made micro mages for the NES, you know how much developers had to scramble to get all that video memory.

9:54 twitch chatter didn't bother to give accurate info... Shenzhen is just a city. This bootleg was made by Hummer Team in 1995 and the Final Fantasy VII bootleg they talk next was made by a company called Shenzhen Nanjing Technology Co. in 2005.

Oh, my god, this was hilarious! It's just so much fun to see you fight this game over control over Mario and over spacetime 🤣 I'm kind of impressed how they did this for NES. For instance this game scrolls left. Super Mario Brothers didn't scroll left, because of memory issues. And well... this game had memory issues obviously and then gaslights both you and chat 🤣But still, it's kind of cool. I love the graphic for Urchin! It's so cute! And eh... [SPOILERS AHEAD] did the princess eventually get out of Bowser's pants?! She seemed kind of happy about it actually 🤣 A little too happy, about the whole situation. But it's fine. I"m just saying I noticed, the princess can do and enjoy whatever she wants however she wants to.

I like how around 37 minutes in, during the boss fight the mushroom in storage was a podoboo instead. Super disappointed it didn't kill Mario when used because the game got confused.

Watching Barb struggle nearly as much is validating. btw; just picked up a bootleg 4-button NES controller, for full crossover universe immersion. Shiggy said it couldn't be done. Note that this is actually a product for profit, not a fan creation for fun. It is both a shame and a road to failure for Chinese game developers who can not develop their own technology&game design while wasting their time to just copy established work from others.

I honestly don't fully agree with everyone saying this is impressive for the NES. Yeah it is impressive for something made by amateurs but like we know the NES is capable of much better than this because we have Super Mario Bros. 3

Super mario Bros 3 used the MMC3 to enhance memory and swap paletes and yet it has less color than this game and less detailed backgrounds. Also technically the NES can display only 3 colors per sprite palette (not counting the invisible color) yet the fish in the under water level clearly are composed of more colors. They also are made up of several 8x8 sprite tiles and at times there are 3 moving enemies plus mario on the screen and no slowdown and no flicker. In cases where there is flicker, like the ghosthouse where a boo's trajectory intersects with a blue door sprite, the flicker is controled and on alternating frames creating a transparency effect on a CRT TV... this is without doubt one of the most advanced coding tricks ever shown on the NES.

@KZbinAccount5 Edited videos are fine. The weird zooms and cutting in strange places ruins it. This style of video feels like a 12 year old edited it to make it look "cool."
