@@dekai7992 Ye, placing a scout squad, a firewarrior squad and a broadside battlesuit guarding a chokepoint, with one stealthsuit squad a few steps in front to grant vision made the whole thing nigh unbreachable against the AI.

I really like the way y’all film/present your content. It’s clear, it’s cinematic, and it’s very explanatory without getting too complicated. Sometimes battle reports can feel either too detailed and boring or too pandering and simplified. Keep it up! More battle reports like this will be amazing.

This is far and away the best Narrative battle report I've ever seen. I can see this becoming a genuine add-on to Crusade and then evolving from there. You're adding more than what I see so much of, less L shaped terrain, varied buildings, a different setup, consideration for how the rules influence things, discarding the turn limit so things go faster starting out. If this is successful enough you could have a major energizing effect on the narrative end of the entire game. Shine on ZorpHammer, you guys got my subscription.

When I played DoW, when it first came out, I instantly wanted to adapt it to the tabletop. Unfortunately, I was always an Eldar player and never bought into the Astartes. I have a custom-made Exodite force called the Coccinaeldari, painted as Ladybugs, from a made-up maiden world. So this series is hands down one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time. Can't wait for an Eldar faction! I love the magnet system, btw!!

I absolutely love this! Please don't stop. Spent way too much time in DoW and DoW 2 back in the day and this is the closest I will ever see to this on tabletop. I remember the White Dwarf DoW battle between Orks and Blood Ravens back in 4th ed and been thirsting for Imperial vengeance ever since. FOR THE EMPEROR!

I remember playing custom rules crusade when you have only limited options and need to spend resources to the buildings, accesing new units so you can progress your units, conversing them with tech tree with some other custom rules like different crusade mechanics. It was my best experience in WH40K although we played in TTS and not IRL

Very nice batrep Lachie. I'm not usually a fan of Battle reports, but the little voice barks and flair really helped. One thing I would like to say though is that I found the beginning of the episode kinda breakneck in peace and hard to follow. As the report went on longer and things started to slow down and go phase by phase I enjoyed it a lot more.

I wish there was a top down camera so we could have a better idea of squad positioning. It’s also odd that we go from this awesome slick format of high quality to just watching dice be thrown. I personally don’t care much for seeing dice and would just prefer to watch the cool editing and maybe a interview section where you explain your strategy and current outlook on the game. Also taking so fluffy cotton as the fog of war would be cool.

I feel like oath of moments is even stronger on a game that lasts 10+ turns. Orks probably need a Waaagghhh 'cooldown', same with a lot of armies with one time use abilities.

Boy, it is an awesome Idea! I personnaly don't have the time and space (or interested friends) for this kind of game anymore. It is a great way to shake things up with the table top gaming, and add a layer of startegy to the game. The fog of war mechanics seems to be difficult to manage.

Tons of fun! Thanks for this video! I really think rules overlays like this NEED an extremely strong retreat mechanic to both represent the dawn of war videogames, and also to keep the back-and-forth gameplay of an objective-based resource strategy game. It seemed like objectives and territory control were close to pointless in this match, and I think lack of retreat (and by extension, shortness of the battle) were the reason. Maybe there's a need for allowing a player to declare a unit be in 'retreat' at any time (even during enemy turn, between hit/wound rolls, etc), which makes the unit take hugely reduced ranged damage (additional 3+ saving throw, perhaps?), become incapable of attacking, and have to move back to base every turn, until it touches the HQ. I can appreciate that this might make a tabletop game last too long, but it just doesn't feel like dawn of war when squads are getting wiped so easily. Not to mention the slow-build of a wounded, retreated unit coming back into the fight, and the importance of area control that results from long games and lots of movement. Anyway, thanks again for this great video. I know it's hard to find a middle-ground between 'good videogame' and 'good tabletop wargame'.

This is soo awesome. its been ages since i played my last battle of warhammer (or warhammer 40k for that matter). This realy makes me sad there are so few clubs in my neighbourhood. Keep that going! One thing i notice. When you guys roll dice, you tend to 'pick up the hits' to roll damage. When we ran tournaments, that was heavily frowned upon, as somebody could quickly pick up a miss (by mistake or intention), and pretend its a hit, and nobody would be the wiser. That is why we would always 'remove the misses', and keep the hits on the table. So the enemy could easily see nobody was cheating (Picking up one too many dice that way would only handicap the player... so it would only be done by mistake, not intent). Of course, if both players play fair it should not matter. But back in the day I decided it would be better to be 'safe than sorry'.

Really cool. Think you might have to reread the oath of the moment and heavy rules though. Oath of the moment allows rerolls to hits AND wounds. Heavy is a plus one to hit if standing still but no negative if you moved.

We use the Combat Patrol Oath of moment not the full faction bonus as it's more balanced for our scale :)

I want to start by saying that I love this so much!! All the work and effort you have put in really shows! All the attention to detail and the buildings are just amazing! However, I just can’t follow along. Because I have no idea what the ruleset is you could have been on the edge of winning the whole game or one move away from a crushing loss. I really do understand the concept and I bet it was a blast to play but, at least for me, I just can’t follow it and there is no sense of where you are in the game. I just want to end by saying that this is amazing! Thank you so much for making this happen!

Amazing! I want to make and play this! I loved Dawn of War and played it way too much. I know next to nothing about how to play a traditional match of Warhammer. With the release of tenth edition this might be the best time to actually do this. Amazing work ! I’m eager for the next episode and I hope to see other factions in the future.
