You can in fact know, that something is fishy about Solas from the beginning. My Lavellan Mage first met him and he was like to Cassandra “Your captive is a mage”, little snitch :P Then the journey to Shyhold and other events. It is always him, who knows something or has some life saving ideas. In my head cannon, my elven Mage wasn’t stupid and noticed that. So she rather dated her only male advisor ❤

1. The game practically *screams* at you that Solas is the Dread Wolf, but you only really notice the sheer number of the hints once you alredy know the twist (The literal wolf jaw around his neck as a necklace, his knowledge of The Orb and Elven lore which rivals and surpasses Morrigan, the little remarks and notes he makes throughout the game etc.) And if you're friends with him, like my character usually is, or you romance him the conversation at the end of Trespasser hits so much harder because you really don't get the sense that he's malicious or callous. He literally doesn't see most of the current world as "real" because its so disconnected from The Fade, yes, but he still understands that the people around him are still just that: *people* Which makes what he's about to do more haunting for him. He wants to bring back the civilisation he unwittingly destroyed. It makes Solas an Anti-villain at worst and one you see having the potential to be saved because he KNOWS that you have the power to convince him to change his mind. 2. Inquisition might not have been perfect, in fact fans noted quite a few things from previous games that were gutted or dropped and certain concepts felt unexplored. But its still a fantastic game worthy of Origins' legacy and I'm so glad you enjoyed your time with it. Fun fact(s): A) If you romance Cassandra, Varric tells her you plan to propose to her and that whole conversation is so wholesome and funny lol B) The romance between Iron Bull and Dorian, which can happen if you don't romance either and have them together in you party long enough across multiple instances so that you get dialogue of their playful banter as a couple is wholesome as hell.
@FalenDragmireАй бұрын
There's definitely evidence to suggest that Solas is more than what he says but before the ending of the game, at best the evidence you are presented with would suggest that he's an Ancient Elf pretending to be much, much younger than he actually is. Hell, the jawbone around his neck isn't even really all that indicative of who he really is because that jawbone is way too small to be a wolf jawbone. Wolves are huge. But granting that it is the right size, that jawbone could belong to just about any species of similar size. I don't think it's even mentioned in game what kind of animal it's from unless I just missed that.

My story is very much like yours. I started my Dragon Age adventures with Inquisition and after playing it I knew my world was forever changed and Dragon Age would always be a part of it. Solas was a huge part of that too. I love that shiny egg. Lately in the Dragon Age community there has been so much negativity about Veilguard and where at first I was ecstatic for it's release I became mired in the chaos and was losing hope it could ever bring me joy again. Was Thedas truly lost? Then in the midst of all the anger and hate I found this video. Thank you, thank you for reminding me how much I loved this game, all the people, all the laughter, all the quests, all the stupid egg making my heart hurt EVERYTHING. Watching this and hearing your comments and emotions as you experienced it allowed me to remember the joy and excitement I too once felt for Dragon Age. I was smiling and reminiscing the whole time. Ever smiled for an hour and a half straight? :-) Thank you for helping rekindle the spark of hope I once had for for this world and I hope we are both pleasantly surprised with the upcoming Veilguard and that our Inquisitors get to meet their stubborn Solas again.

That is the one satisfying thing I can say for Veilguard, everything else is up to you as opinion. For me - all the other previous games set the bar so high that this 4th game couldn't reach it with all the key changes in the team of Bioware and I'm sorry for that 😕 But as a fan... Some things to keep in mind: The paraphrasing of the options, don't generally matter- but rather their placement on the wheel (like DA2) top is paragon/genuine, middle is snarky/humourous, and bottom is renegade/aggressive. Killing your clan is stupid easy- I managed to get the best ending on my first playthrough, but that was by pure luck. Generally, if you want to save them, just look up a guide for convenience. If you ever try a Solas romance again- try getting angry at the break up: It *can* be quite cathartic. All in all- I'm glad you enjoyed yourself!

@@katalyria having known Morrigan from Origins, the consequence of her drinking the Well is FAR more devastating, which I preferred. I really am a bit of a masochist. 🤣 Dragon Age just isn't the same unless you and your companions suffer some kind of tragedy, imo. Like, I always leave Hawke behind, not because I don't like him, but because it's what he'd do, and it just makes far more sense to have him be stuck in the fade, rather than have him not help the Inquisitor continue to fight Corypheus. It's tragic, but it's just so good.

Reading the Masked Empire, a novel about the backstory of Celene, Briala and Gaspard kinda ruined Wicked Hearts for me. I used to like that quest too. The game really didn't characterise any of the three that well. It sucks so much that getting the only decent person there, Briala, back into such a stupidly toxic relationship with Celene is objectively the best outcome of that quest.
@Ponder5572 ай бұрын
I've always advocated that the best ending for Wicked Hearts is holding everyone accountable for their maneuvering. I can't feel good about getting them together when I believe Celene will have to work harder to get Briala's forgiveness. I agree that for having a book introduce the key players they did not give them much presence in the mission.

Changes ALL the text on the dialoge wheel to what actually comes out of the Inquisitor's mouth. It's genuinely like playing a different game, i cant believe they hid so much fantastic text behind such god-awful paraphrasing that actively hides and misrepresents the dialogue choices you have. I could NEVER play Inquisition without it again. This was also my first dragon age and bioware game back in 2020, and it completely hooked me in the same way. Must say I really enjoyed this video and your perspective on this game. This game is my favorite game of all time and it has been ten very long years since it released before I finally get to play the new one. But with that in mind I do love hearing new perspectives on these things and I don't think I've ever run into anyone who chornicled their journey through Dragon Age like this starting with Inquisition and not having the context for the first two. Its unique and I was really curious to see how you would manage to deal with things without that context of the other games and if you could get the context and how much the game's story would hold up without that context. So pretty glad it worked out at least for you. For my Inquisitor though, female human bow rogue/ Assassin. Romanced Cullen. Went after the Templars, left Stroud in the Fade, Gaspard is Emperor (though blackmailed to allow Briala into his court), drank from the Well cause Morrigan was too thirsty, right now she has kept the Inquisition but I am doing one last playthrough with her before Veilguard so will probably disband. Must really say as some advice for your next time if you'll appreciate, you should go after the Templars as mine did. Its one of the weirder parts of the game but the difference between going after the Templars/ Mages actually has some interesting story implications and just imo the Templars are better. Probably just flavor honestly but when you go to the Shrine of Dumat (which I hope you made it in your first playthrough but there was no footage of it so I don't know) you actually get more insight into Corypheus's background and motivations.

Very worth it if you're interested. I'd also highly recommend playing the other games if you're interested to do that as well. I started with Inquisition myself but DA2 is just awesome I adore Hawke so much. Theres another broody elf if that sweetens the deal lol Also, the mounts are unfortunately useless haha. They don't actually go faster and all they do is clog up the banter even more. Which by the way, assuming you weren't using mods, banter is supposed to trigger WAY more often than it usually does in the vanilla game, but the little unread ticks in your journal clogs it for whatever reason. If you ever do another playthrough, make sure to clear all those, including checking your "Completed" tab since quests that update or complete when they aren't set as your main will re-tick. Oh and dont worry. Veilguard is gonna have some sick base game hair. And fun fact: its been confirmed by writers that the scene where Solas tells you about your vallaslin, "the truth" that he _meant_ to tell you the whole Dread Wolf thing, but be chickened out, hence the vallaslin reveal instead lol

My first playthrough was with no context either 🤣 It was a Solasmancer run too. Edit: Also, the chantry and the mage/templar thing is so confusing with no context. Just wait until you play DA2. Ignore the haters, it’s great.

Very good video. Playing as a Male Inquisitor I did like the idea of 2 friends falling out more then the romance. But I do think the final romance scene is extremely well written and if I was someone who was saying "Yep canonize an option" I think the romance works for the story as a tragic love story. It does add a lot more to the tragedy for Solas being very much a tragic villain. I honestly didn't get the appeal of Solas. But after watching the video I think I understand a little more now. He does remind me of the Doctor from Doctor Who. Someone seen as a god who had to do unspeakable atrocities to save people. I just subbed and I look forward to seeing more of your projects.

The Doctor is a good comparison! I see the similarities for sure. I also adore both Solas' character, and The Doctor's
@Tony-Down-Under2 ай бұрын
@x_rhi_x2772 There was one quote when I was watching Doctor Who to describe him where it all clicked for me with Solas. "The Lonley God. The man without a home." I was like oh that's Solas. It also helps as the actor for Solas has appeared in Doctor Who and the spinoff Torchwood.

Wonderful watch, so nice to see someone discover experience and enjoy Dragon Age for the first time. I've romanced almost everyone, yes I've played it that many times. One thing I really wanted to know is if the default set up has Morrigan having done the dark ritual in Origins or not. I can never leave Hawke behind, I think some versions of Hawke would want to stay behind, but other's would not. However my inquisitor always has such familial love for Varric that they cannot break his heart. I didn't feel kicked in the nuts with any of the DLC combat, even though the combat is harder. I've completed the main game on nightmare difficulty, but I never attempted any of the DLC above normal. It demands a lot of micro-management of combat and if that's not your jam it's going to be very frustrating.

I love the video, it made me want to do my first playthrough as a solasmancer, and for your next playthrough I recommend looking up some build guides for your character, there are some builds that make combat completely trivial even on the hardest difficulty.

Ok. So much to address here...but I'll keep it to a couple things. 1) We played. The same. Lavellan. Hair to eyebrows to dialogue choices, through the tragedy with Solas, we were parallel in nearly all things. I actually went through this video straight from the Trespasser credits. I chose for the INQ to serve the divine (Cassandra) and softened Leliana, and left Stroud - those are the 3 differences. And you had the hair my Lavellan should have. 2) COMBAT: If you did not do this, i learned hard that I absolutely HAD to upgrade gear to keep up with the dlc-level enemies. Dragons and DLC areas help with the mats a LOT for this. And lastly i believe playing as a mage is easier than a rogue for 2 reasons - AOE damage, and lyrium potions. Having potions to replenish your ability resource is a GAME CHANGER. Thank you for sharing your experience! This is my first time seeing your content and i loved your take and sass and always appreciate seeing a sister represent in gaming with attitude and class.

If you didnt drink from the well, youd have to fight the elven guardian spirits in trespasser as well as the Qunari and they are considerably harder than the Qunari

you likely struggled in the Trespasser DLC because you were underleveled. i usually skip the Jaws of Hakkon DLC and The Descent (they don't really interest me much personally), and i too struggle in Trespasser when i get there, but on my latest playthrough to set up my world state for Veilguard, i decided to bite the bullet and do both of the other DLCs before completing the main game and moving onto Trespasser. i was max level (27) by the time i got to Trespasser and the Corypheus fight + Trespasser itself were an absolute breeze.

If you play origins I highly recommend romancing Morrigan and having a child with her, you can meet this kid in Inquisition and it was so emotional for me like "this is my son"??????

I'm loving your recap! This is exactly what I needed to watch before Veilguard released. 😁 It's so well done! The tragic drama between Solas and the Inquisitor is just too good! I'm a sucker for forbidden romances.

You get your mount once you visit The horsemaster. The races have nothing to do with getting the horses. Defeating the black wolves and setting up watchtowers is what gets the horses for the Inquisition besides your personal mount.

This was beautifully done. Instant fan. Ik this was posted a month ago but id recommend the first 2 before FA:VG. The story and romance are better. Baxkwards would be too cool tbh. Great video.

@bunniewood I mean true. But even then it's been nothing but a fortnite hero trailer, 0 previous story progress, no evil character paths, no tevinter blood magic stuff (literally was nazi germany sounding in last games), and to many people mad about the chest scars stuff. But I mean it's a fantasy game, so not bothered to much. But logically just make the person you wanna be. It's been 10 years and ya it's been rough. It's been kinda scary to think about. But I can't forgive them for what they did to thendemons and darkspawn. God they look like ass clowns now 😭😭😭😭

me too! just came across this game by accident^ and also hooked& Playin Origins now and reading books. Always felt something is odd with Solas. Especially when my inquisitor asked a question, that how come Breaches just appeared but Solas already mastered Breach magic. Also he is a bit odd and inhuman. I was more surprised that he is friends with Flemeth, on whom I did researches after I finished a game and started reading books! absolutely love this universe and exploring it now!

LOL this is great. If you liked the world and the characters, I highly recommend going back to playing DA: Origins and DA2! The gameplay and graphics are a bit outdated but the story and characters are fantastic and there's more people to romance. I think if you liked Inquisition, you will like the other games. You will probably get attached to your Hawke once you play DA2 and see the relationship between them and Varric. Also Welcome to DA!

its crazyyy to me that people actually leave Hawke in the fade, for some reason Hawke is like my number one Emotional Support Protagonist. I would leave my inquisitor in the fade over Hawke. But I guess this is just a me problem.

Hawke is meant to be left in the fade if we based on Flemeth’s statements in the second game.
@banaanikirahvi2 ай бұрын
@@naniwa111 As far as I'm aware that's just fan speculation. Nothing wrong with that, but I don't think there's any concrete confirmation that that statement from Flemeth refers to this moment. Personally I don't think there's a 'correct' choice here.
