The Chao garden is one of the most loved side modes in the history of gaming. Despite this, SEGA has neglected the Chao Garden for far too long, but luckily the fanbase has our backs. There are many different developers who have created their own fan made versions of the chao garden.
Sonic fan games often range quite a lot in quality. While there are some gems out there, there are also some not so great games. Today we are fully embracing the fan game experience and are going to try every Chao Garden fan game that I can get my hands on.

Hello, I'm the creator of the Roblox Chao Garden game. First I just wanna say, thank you for playing my game. Next thing is, the game was a never truly finished. I made as kind of just a fun project to do. As you have seen there are MANY problems with the game as I made it when I really didn't have much experience with Roblox. And last, you know I've kind of been inspired to work on the game yet again so thanks for playing and thanks for encouraging me. Edit: (I worded it much better in the description of the game so here it is) When I created this game I was very inexperienced and wanted to create this for fun. The game was made as a test and never meant to be a fully fledged game. Coming back to this game and seeing the small community it's created makes me really happy that people liked this game that much. I really should have clarified that this was made for testing purposes and not meant to be serious. One last thing if anyone has the experience and knowledge to make a Chao Garden game I would love to help with modeling or even animation. at one point, Resort Island was gonna actually have another fangame for its stages but... I don't think it ever got that far. Both games are fully playable, and the website you linked does show proof that this was always planned, but it never gone any further than that.

@@Manavine I really wished they would have gone through with this, it would have been perfect. Also, the game was supposedly updated to add stat based evolutions, but I was never able to get them to work. I wish this game would be in active development again at least to fix those two things, because it's super good

Has anybody else here played "Chao Life" years ago? It was some downloadable chao fan game I played as a kid, and I actually searched for it fairly recently to no success. This chao fan games topic made me think to ask if anybody here was familiar with it themselves.

Found it I think, though it might actually be called "Chao Pet" instead of "Chao Life" if I've got the right one. Can't say the name of the site or give the link or else KZbin filters it for some reason but search "chao pet *rchive" (replace * with a) and it should come up

Fun fact : as of 2024, A reliable persona leaker leaked that Sega is actually making a Chao garden mobile game called "Sonic Chao Guardians" Not fun fact : the leak also said that it will be exclusive to Netflix

There's another, older one I found called Chao's Mazes, made by the same developer as Sonic GL. And unlike GL, it seems to have been publicly released by the dev at one point, so you can play it! Unfortunately can't give a link or say the site it's on, cause KZbin filtered my comment the last two times I did that 😅 You should be able to find it by searching the name at least, it's a fun little 3D puzzle game where you play as a Chao and move blocks around. Surprised more aren't aware of it since that one Sonic GL video got a decent number of views and is nostalgic to many people now. But yeah, I'd recommend Chao's Mazes as it holds up pretty well for an old fan game IMO

Oh also, there's a Tiny Chao Garden remake out there which allows you to import/export Chao from the PC versions of the Adventure games. Still WIP it seems and is Windows only, but I thought I'd mention it as well since it's pretty cool

If SEGA ever makes another game with Chao in it, they could make a mobile app to replace the VMU/GBA Chao minigames. You could have an account to link with the game, and remotely play with your Chao or take them for walks.

I think the biggest hurdle agsint making a mobile chao garden is that its fundamentallly made to be a complements to a bigger game. Its something you periodically check up on between levels and helps incentives replayability to raise the perfect chao. A mobile chao garden will need to have a side mode so it doesn't get stale, perhaps an auto runner like Sonic Dash or Runners where you can grind and unlock different characters.

What if the game was made to be a fitness/walking motivator in that case, and that be what you accrue rewards with? Or even just fundamentally change the system to suit the faster mobile game style, like a massive revamp to Tiny Chao Garden that the one mobile entry here was? I could definitely see ways in which it could work.

@@starwarriorterra8373this. This is how you would redesign the chao to work with mobile. You have to take a step back and reimplement familiar mechanics with current trends. I’ve been blue printing ideas myself. I’d want a gameplay loop and a method of progression that makes you feel attached.

There is another. Vr chat has a chao garden. You dont get to interact with chao but you can make them ur model. There area also chaos emeralds to find in the gardens that will take you back to the master emerald alter from the past in sa1.

Vr chat is free and can be played without vr aswell. Might make an interesting mmbers game night as well as like roblox there are tons of games to play and interactable worlds to visit.

I have another friend who told me they found the server toxic. I was there the year that Etika died.

Could easily see a chao garden Niantic game, going to checkpoints and "bonus stages" (Basically just routes) to get small animals and rings, or being able to find both around the in-game world

Chao's Mazes was a good puzzle game made by Boser Jerome (might not be soelling their name right) It isn't a garden game but it was definitely something I found fun through college back in 2006. I'm not sure if you can find it anywhere today but if you can, give it a shot. It wirks on Windows but can be run on Linux and Mac with Wine easily. Mabye even Winlator for andrpid possibly too.

fun fact: if you google search what the last game with chao garden is, it will say sonic advance 2, thats a plain old lie, not only was sadx released after that, but sega superstars from 2004 has chao garden, and sonic chronicles of the dark brother hood does tooo and they help you fight!!!

Sonic Chronicles Chao Garden had no interaction it was just a gallery that displayed your collection. Not counting remakes/ports Sega Superstars 2004 was the last game to feature a Chao Garden, although that was a Sega Crossover game so if you said last Sonic Game it wouldn't count. If you do count remakes & ports the Japan Exclusive Wii U Shop release of Advance 2 may have been the last game with a Chao Garden.

I have a theory why they haven't done it yet. Look at their other games... they are mostly okay but get so much critics. I think before they try a chao game that will never be perfect they let fans do it... but at the same time that fits with the main series, too... or they just hate chao. lol
