I played every single valve game in a week.
Because valve has a really really incredible back catalogue of games, but chances are most of you haven't played the overwhelming majority of them.

Whilst I agree, it's important to recognize, HL2 in 2004 and HL2 in 2024 are 2 different games. Source Engine received a massive overhaul with The Orange Box, as well as number of other updates over the years that improved the graphics(as well as other areas). Yes it's Valves game design that allows them to do this (Source2 was designed with the idea that it will be the final game engine. It will improve overtime, and everything made on it will be portable to newer itterations easily).

The sad part with Day of Defeat is that no one will ever be able to experience what the game even is again. It was an amazing original game, that played extemely well with 32 player lobbies, which was insane at the time. An absolute gem that can only be remembered by those who played it back then.

if you actually break down the AI of half life 2, the combine soldiers are very tactical in their behavior. canonically they were modified humans with all senses and emotions removed besides those that are required for combat, so a pure war machine. this is shown pretty well in how their AI moves in regards to eachother, cornering and surrounding you, sending in the shotgunner to go around angles and try to get in your face without you seeing it approaching. theres a nice video by Leadhead about just how evil the combine is, and its got a very good segment about combine soldiers' coordination. its a little before 12mins into the video, should check it out.

To add a small clarification. While it's true there are servers that trick and mislead about its population with fake listings. There is however also a bug in some Source games where you need to click "disconnect" before joining new server. If you don't do it, and just click on another server then the game may reconnect you back to the previous server. I've seen it happen constantly in TF2.

Great video! 1.6 can seem like an outdated game, and you mentioned cs:source being an improvement, but source was a failure. The professional scene especially never moved from 1.6 to source because source is very gimmicky, whereas 1.6’s mechanics were robust. Million-dollar tournaments were being held in 1.6 even after source was released, thats why they quickly went to work on csgo. Its one of those games that the community essentially pushed to the limit. So while i see why you would think source was an improvement on the original, most didnt think so.

In defense of the chambers being "broken": I think leaving them with these "broken" solutions rewards players who can think outside of the box or realize these easy solutions to a complex chamber. This is exactly why I prefer Portal over Portal 2. While it's true that Portal 2 has a great story, better graphics and overall visual style, I think the chamber design is way too restrictive. Portal 2 feels cramped, the chambers are huge and expansive but they all have only one very specific solution that you have to find. There's very little in terms of thinking outside the box. In Portal 1 the entire game feels like you're discovering your own way and your own solutions to every problem, in Portal 2 the game feels like you're trying to find a specific sequence of actions that the developers intended for you to follow.

About condition zero, the game was supposed to be released 2001 maybe 2002, but changing devs and missing deadlines lead the game to what it is today. Rushed as fuck.. The original premise was similar to the final Condition Zero but there were many MANY more new mechanics and systems that would've set this game apart. Gearbox was handling it at the time but when they missed the deadline in 02 valve snatched the game from them and gave it to ritual who made Deleted Scenes, then to Turtle rock who made the final version (in a few months time). There are some videos about CZ's development history and it's an interesting one I highly recommend you watch them to get a bettter idea how this game went to shit during literal development hell

As somebody with a Valve Index and Steam Deck, here's my thoughts on the missing games: Half Life Source: Not sure how you missed this, but it kinda sucks. It's just a buggier, more visually conflicting Half Life. On the bright side, it gives you assets for Gmod :) The Lab: It's a pretty fun VR tech demo. I generally hate using the term 'tech demo', because some people feel the need to call VR games with 23 hr long campaigns 'tech demo's, but The Lab deserves that title. Some of the game modes are fantastic, like the archery one, but hey the game is free so it's worth checking out if you have a headset. Half Life Alyx: Easily the most beautiful and polished VR game that I've played. The soundtrack and AI are also some highlights, but we all know that the glass physics is the best part. It's biggest con is how safe it plays it, when compared to games like Bonelab. Aperture Desk Job: Another free tech demo. It's polished and pretty fun, but has zero replay-ability, and it is basically just a Steam Deck features tour.

if you haven't noticed this guy clearly hates VR 'cause he doesn't want to spent $500 on a headset you can use for an entire generation. that's like 8 bucks a month over 5 years time. i honestly don't understand why people hate VR.. even the motion sickness stuff is easily solvable by just playing games.. after a week you get super used to it and never get sick again.
@spoonermcgee
@spoonermcgee Жыл бұрын
I came to the comments to discuss this part and even then, I advocate even harder for both VR entries and also the forgotten 3rd VR entry "Moondust", which was a much smaller version of the Lab that was developed to show off the Valve knuckles/index controller. The Lab is honestly a top-tier VR title, the archery game in itself is enough to always bring me back. It's a HELL of a shoulder workout and trying to beat your high score is endlessly entertaining. The Robo-repair mission is a 10-minute masterclass in VR immersion, direction, and writing. Its not long, but it's merits ring true each time I've played it since getting VR back in 2017. Half Life: Alyx though...it's where Valve is now, after so damn long. This video is simply incomplete without it. VR is not worth it for every person, no argument there. It requires money yes, but also requires space to set up. Which can be just as challenging. Alyx is the culmination of a long-term development cycle and innovation dream that Valve has been working on in the space of VR since what? 2014? It's worth asking a friend with VR to borrow their headset. It's worth even buying a Quest 2 or used Reverb G2. Even an OG oculus Rift 1 would do the trick. It's a the definitive title for VR. I hope Htwo can try it out someday soon. I know eventually he will, but this video is very incomplete without it. If you were to take the amount of time and planning that goes into their games then Half Life Alyx would take the cake as the thing with the longest time to come to fruition so leaving it out of their discography of games is a miss!

if nobody told you: source/non-source public servers have the ability to alter your config so that when you are trying to join any server they redirect you to their server. Cheap promovation tactic praying on casual users employed by some community/admins. You can make the config file read-only after you adjusted your settings, and you will avoid this issue. Romanian and Russian Counter-Strike servers used this tactic quite often.

Usually, I get shit talked and slurred by older players because I'm "not good" but in dods, everytime I've played, the players who were like 30-40 years old were allwelcoming. I once said "im getting off for tonight, but I'm gonna join again sometime soon" and the other long time players were saying "cool, we always love seeing new players" On top of that, they've always been helpful, teaching me new mechanics and stuff. Highly recommend it

@@TheThunderGhost As someone who owns VR, it's not cheap. You need a PC that can run vr (Which these days is probably a mid-level PC) and a headset. That's easily $1000 for the hardware roughly (PC & HMD). If you already have the PC though, its much cheaper. The real problem is how much better the index is and how much praise the index gets for it. The index is without a doubt the BEST way to experience VR currently and if you're looking into getting VR, you'll probably find people saying that and be discouraged from buying a cheaper alternative like the quest 2 because "Well, it's a lesser experience" or "I might as well just save for an index then". There's also just the fact that playing VR is physically exhausting. VR gets uncomfortable after a while, especially for me personally since I have back issues, so it's also a lot harder for people with said issues to even justify getting into VR. It's such a great medium for games but its a shame how much it's held back by.

I doubt you'll ever read this but if you do... During your Counter Strike Source experience you got this "Bug" where you were only connecting to one server. I'm pretty sure that's done by the server owners and they install a plugin in your files which basically connects you to the same server ("Connect 'ip of the server'"). To fix that you need to right click the game in steam click proprieties, click local files and click "Verify integrity". I am not 100% sure that this is the fix but it SHOULD fix the issue. Hope it was helpful!

For the VR games if you’re actually interested, you can use a lot of headsets besides the $1500 index for alyx and desk job. The quest 2 works perfectly wired and wirelessly with virtual desktop, granted if you’re doing it wirelessly you need a decent wifi connection. That is a much cheaper alternative to play any vr game if you want. It even allows for the few oculus exclusive games too since it was originally oculus.

I'm not kidding). I never expected that servers in CS:S would do the same crap, but thanks to your video, now I know that CS:S is not safe from this shitty practice either. As primitive and goofy as Half-Life probably looks now to a younger audience, when that shit dropped in 1998, it was like if you'd only watched superhero movies your entire life, and then all of a sudden somebody put on No Country For Old Men. It was shocking how brutal, gritty, and _real_ Half-Life felt compared to everything else.
