With all do you respect, this sounds a lot like “games journalist says game bad because they’re not good at it and need an easier, hand-holding mode”. The older STALKER games had the same mechanic you describe. By all means, be concerned if that’s your thing, but you were pressed for time, so probably better to wait until the game comes out so you have time to really delve in. It’s not a game I could get to grips with in 30 minutes.

BG3 became a mainstream hit because it brought in new audiences to the CRPG space that would never usually touch a CRPG. Maybe they should have done a better job at explaining some of the mechanics to new players, but everything you mentioned seems just like STALKER. The device you were using beeps faster depending on how close you are to the artifact. Not the anomalies. To know where the anomalies are, you need to bring out a pouch of bolts that you throw like pebbles to set off the anomalies to see what area they're affecting so you can avoid them. Sounds like a bit of miscommunication was involved between the game and the player.

When I was listening to Luke explain the fact that you had to go "through" the blue cloud and it didn't match with the beeping device, I thought to myself "That's cool - it's not what you'd expect, so you have to use other tools to find the way because it's not obvious like most games". So NOT a bad thing. Then I read the comments and everyone seems to agree this is a STALKER mechanic where the beeper / Geiger counter points to the artifact and not the anomalies. I played and beat 2 Stalker games but forgot about that "bolts" you throw to spot anomalies. Either way, game sounds cool 👍

The game features many different anomalies and types thereof: electrical, fiery, acidic, etc. Their essence lies in the fact that artifacts can form within these anomalies. According to the game's storyline, these artifacts are ordinary items that have entered the anomaly and become distorted, acquiring both positive and negative properties such as regeneration, endurance, or conversely, fatigue and heightened radiation impact. Sometimes artifacts possess both positive and negative aspects simultaneously, allowing you to combine different types of artifacts to achieve the best outcome. This is why these artifacts have become highly valued, prompting people, known as stalkers, to illegally enter the Zone for enrichment. The essence of their role in the game is quite intriguing. To find an artifact, you need to obtain one of the artifact detectors available in the game. To locate an artifact, you approach the anomaly, and if an artifact is present, the detector will begin to emit light and indicate the approximate location of the artifact (depending on the detector model). You then gradually approach that location until the artifact appears before you and you can retrieve it. To avoid touching the anomaly and risking death, you must use bolts to throw into the anomalies to discharge them or simply to understand their presence or absence, helping you navigate safely. Actually, that's far from all that can be said about them; you'll only learn more by playing and experimenting. You'll understand how each of them works through trial and error. I would recommend playing older games to better prepare yourself for Stalker 2 and avoid repeating the mistakes made by the guy in the video.I know the games may seem outdated, but you won't regret it.

And all those bugs, engine problems and everything else I can tell you for sure - are the true experience of the Zone. Stalker 2 probably going to be hated by a lot, because modern gaming just sucks, it have created a generation of braindead gamers. But what I am sure about is that this is a game which is made for fans. Maybe it is not going to be so great, maybe it won't have that many hardcore mechanics as lots of mods for stalker right now have, but - this game is a continuation, this game is a long awaited sequel and I don't care. If you are not into the zone, you will never be. But if you are - you will be happy to be back.

I've been playing stalker myself since 2007 on and off, i remember what mess was after release and was waiting for patches to be able progress further, i doubt it will be anything like mods, maybe some elements taken like dynamic anomalies, animations, we will see game as originals was without hardcore survival mechanics as anomaly/gamma for sure also not everyone going to like it since its not some fast phased shooter like COD where you dont need to think, i cant imagine people nowadays playing mod like oblivion lost remake where there is no indicator shown where to find things but given hints where it might be, todays gamers would be frustrated without any help and would quite fast, nowadays you need tutorials, arrows, markers etc lol

It's okay if you never played stalker before, but before assuming that what you are experiencing is a bug, ask the questions, "What is this device for?" "Why do I have bolts?" and "Why did I not get hurt when passing through a lightning ball?" The more time you spend interacting with the world, the more you understand about it. STALKER will never hold your hand; it's up to you to figure it out, and 30 minutes is not nearly enough for a new player to come to understand STALKER. With all that said, it's really reassuring to know that STALKER kept its identity as a brutal post-apocalyptic survival experience that throws you into the thick of it without any warning or guidance, and it's up to you to figure out how to deal with the situation.

Luke! How many Stalkers games have you play before? Because the way you explain your situation in the game, it looks like you were playing Stalker for the first time. The detector in your hand is for finding artifacts. It's beeping faster when artifact is near you, not because anomaly is near you. You traverse anomalies by throwing bolts in front of you. If nothing happens to a throwing bolt, keep going. If something happens, be still and throw a bolt in a different direction.

There's no need to make assumptions so early as someone who's never played the originals. Try the mechanics you found weird when it fully comes out, get to know the game. Once you enter the Zone, you never truly leave ;)

The game only looks cool like in the trailers if the player is actualy cool 😎. The game doesn't artificialy make the player a badass like every modent title, you have to become on with your own skill. And that's epic.

It honestly sounds like you needed a second pass through with someone explaining the anomaly to you. Also your critic on combat just sounds like something from the original stalker trilogy. It has it's fair share of difficult shootouts depending on your gear, but many times 2-3 bandits is basically an annoyance more than a challenge.

My man, the detector's purpose is to locate an artifact (the things you were grabbing amongst the electric anomalies) and it beeps based on the proximity of the nearest artifact, not because of anomalies. To disable an anomaly for a second (just enough time to run through it) you must throw a bolt into it.

Weird, I've looked at a lot of reviews from this demo and people were saying the graphics were incredible and it was the previous demo (last year-ish?) that looks the way you described. Maybe your graphics settings were turned down when you played
