Your skill is out of this world. Holy shit. The piece you played on the six string where even you said that it was hard... i genuinely think there are less than 1000 people in the entire world who could play that piece as well as you did here. I've been playing bass for 14 years and I couldn't even scratch the surface there. I would love to see some kind of story time video where you explain how you managed to become this proficient on bass guitar. Your skill level is FAR beyond most of us. Greetings from Germany.

Jeeeez. Arranging 4 pieces (and an original riff) for 1 video! A for affort. A+ for execution. I'm curious if it would be more difficult to arrange/learn a single complete piece since there are repeating phrases/themes compared to excerpts of the more iconic parts parts as you've done here. Genuinely curious. Either way, love the content! Great work, as always!
@CharlesBerthoud4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It’s probably easier to learn one coz like you said - repeated themes etc. Having 4 shorter pieces does separate them into bite size chunks though which is mentally slightly easier. But overall still harder 😂

Charles, may I make a suggestion stemming from this fascinating video? Your work is extremely enjoyable, but perhaps adding a repertoire of classical compositions might be worth considering. If you were to add one complete movement from the keyboard repertoire say every month or 6 weeks, I for one would be really thrilled. Composers such as Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Debussy, Satie (amongst others) produced wonderful compositions which could serve as a source of endless and timeless material for such a project.

I had no doubt that Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” would be the most famous piano piece of all time. I wonder if old Ludwig thought his beautiful piece would be the starter piece for every young aspiring piano player? Not that it’s an easy song to play, just the introduction is a bit simplistic. It really picks up in the next movement and then requires quite a bit more skill, but it’s so recognizable that everyone wants to first learn it. Great job with all of these piece Charles. You’re actually not a bass player? There are people who play instruments and then there are musicians and you are most certainly the latter. A musician just naturally understands music, has natural rhythm and can usually play many different instruments if they try. I’ve been playing guitar for more the 45 years and have taught students from time to time. I can instantly tell who are musicians and they are the only ones I really care to teach. People who are not natural musicians can still learn to play an instrument and I actually admire those who are not musicians, yet have learned an instrument anyway. I just don’t have the patients for those people because learning he instrument is so much more difficult for them, but I so admire them, I just want someone more patient to teach them. Even after many years of playing and instrument, it is still quite obvious which are the musicians. They may play all the right notes and time signatures, playing everything correctly, even using all the proper fingering techniques, but their playing never feels organic or natural, usually having a mechanical feel to it. You can tell they are still counting out measures and rhythms in their head. Your playing sounds effortless, even though I know you have many hours of practice, it doesn’t sound that way. The music flows from you directly to the instrument, like it is another part of your body. You are obviously a musician and can pretty much play any instrument you choose, you’ve just chosen bass as your main, as I had chosen guitar. Keep making the beautiful music Charles. You’re a delight to listen to.

I can't stop listening to the Cyclonic Rift riff, it's awesome! You've inspired me to dust off my bass to try playing it myself 😄

Charles trained as a pianist before picking up bass. You can definitely see the influence.

Oh how I like your straight and plain sarcasm about pianos :) I never learned to play guitars but I was playing piano for 10 years, and I still like what you do with the bass, big thumbs up

Liked that you had Vinheteiro, one of my favorite channels... It's a pleasure to see you tapping the bass.

It's always beautiful when you adapt classical pieces to 4- and 6-string-b̶a̶s̶s̶ piano. More, please!
