Well, online gaming ruined everything. People willing to pay full price for what equates to new map packs every “season” are the reason we have shit games nowadays. Very few developers have faith in immersive story based campaigns. They see the market as shifting towards online multiplayer and see campaigns as a thing of the past and a waste. So if you’re one of those “Where is COD zombies?!?!?” people, blame yourself.

We spent hours playing together as it was possible to multiplayer in the game and i remember it as some of the best memories that I have when I was young. She has never liked videogames buy I think she did it just to see spent time with me and see me happy . Compared to nowadays, the gameplay and graphics aren't the best thing (for sure). Fun fact, once you're high enough level there's only one combo you'll ever need: Parry+finishing move. Doing this will instantly execute the enemy that just attacked you, even if they're wearing a shield (does not work against elite health bar enemies obv) In addition, it instantly puts you into Perfect Mode, which provides a damage bonus as well. Of course, getting this combo and the aforementioned bonus effects will require spending some points, but once you have it you're pretty much golden.

It's unfortunate that it's a better game I mean Gollum had potential especially since it's been so long since we had a lotr game.

Wdym it had 0 potential you literally just screw around as gollum even without the crappy start it’s a bad concept

@@travm5540 Agreed, making a Lotr game based on Gollum is like making a historical war-game that centers around the 3 minute football war of central america.

me and my brother used to grind and speedrun our way through this game so much as kids; older games being more difficult certainly lent to the enjoyment of the game. and yes that's (most of) the original cast voicing the lines!

I remember being 9 and being absolutely trashed by the Dead King level, but that feeling of beating it and spending hours on the game even when finished so many times is just like a sweet kiss of nostalgia on my cheek now. Thanks for that jayvee !

easily my favourite ps2 game. Played it recently from scratch and the retro feel came flying back. Also, the voice actors for ROTK game are the actual actors from the film (apart from I think Legolas).

This is so nostalgic for me! I played this game when I was younger and thought it was just awesome! I saw Return of the King in theaters in 2003 I think it was (ironically the same year one of my most favorite movies debuted, Master and Commander: Far Side of the World). my favorite level to replay was the “Southern Gate” or something like that. I just remember it as a relatively quick and simple mission but one that got you right into the action so it was like an orc/Uruk slaughtering sandbox.

I always took out the small fry archers and shield ghosts as I noticed there was a certain amount of times they’d spawn that way the mini bosses would be the only thing left to fight. Man that mountain was difficult escaping.

Pretty sure there was some kind of roll/dodge move you could do as Aragorn. The really frustrating part of that cave mission was getting out as rocks fell around you. That part was pretty much BS IIRC.

This game is difficult, tbh I miss when games were more challenging. My favorite mission was always the one where you attack Sarumans tower with the Ents, but the one where you play as Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas and you attack some type of gate I spent countless hours on. Used to play that mission just to kill the ground orcs until they finally ran out, great for leveling up and practicing since it has such a large open space. The battle as Sam where you rescue Frodo I recall being brutally difficult, what a masterpiece of a game Im glad im not the only one who remembers it fondly.

Parrying fills your gauge a lot, so using it at the start of a combat will help you to rack up lots of perfects and excellents, boosting your experience gain so you can afford more of the upgrades. When possible, it's best to buy the fellowship upgrades and to use Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli to buy them.

The game isn't actually that difficult. You just got to spam that block button and you'll block everything. And once you have bought orc bane, bane of sauron and warrior's bane you can instantly get perfect mode with those. This game is amazing, I used to play the Southern Gate level all the time with my brothers!

I would 100% rather play this than Gollum. Sure, the textures were probably 480p resolution, but the animations, the pacing, the level design was just so well done! It is definitely not the best game, very simple, but you can see the care put into it. Such a nostalgia trip, thanks!
