To be fair. This game is horrifying completely by accident. The game was never intended to be a horror game. And that's why it's a good horror game. Similar to Luigi's mansion which inspired this more directly. The game isn't really meant to be fear inducing, merely a fun setting in a parody of horror movies. But because the game parodies actual horror games to give the oooh spooky but not really because you're seeeeeven vibes a bit too well. It becomes creepy even if only by complete accident.

It’d be tricky because unless they reuse the voices and audio from the original game, it’d be difficult to get the original voices back since Ken Sansom who played Rabbit and the Woozles died long ago and Nikita Hopkins who played Roo up until 2005 is all grown up.

Do you know any other hidden gem licensed games?
@GhabulousGhotiАй бұрын
@RETRObutionofficial Best licensed game I've ever played was the Mata Nui Online Game, a flash game released in 2001 to promote Lego's then-new Bionicle franchise. That game has surprisingly good writing, with some fairly interesting philosophy sprinkled in. It's a very slow paced and atmospheric game, playing almost like a visual novel, which is not at all what you'd expect going into a franchise like that. Honestly to date it's the only licensed game that doesn't really feel like a licensed game to me, it was in a league of its own. Not the single best game I've ever played, but probably the only licensed game I'd include in a Top 25 games I've played list - it's actually in my Top 10. Only downside is that it sets your expectations for the rest of the franchise way too high, as the rest of Bionicle's story is... All over the board, to say the least.
@RETRObutionofficialАй бұрын
I think this might be the most obscure game I've heard of since starting this channel. I remember the Bionicle DS game that was a first person shooter and I looooved it. I never even knew the Bionicles had a continuous story
@GhabulousGhotiАй бұрын
@RETRObutionofficial Oh, really? Bionicle was well known in its day for having a fairly convoluted and overly complex (and in its later years, very edgy) story in addition to some kickass action figures! Bionicle Heroes DS is a pretty solid romp, but it's not "canon", in that it makes no effort to follow the story or adhere to the lore. Most games did that and IMO that was usually fine. MNOG was rare for being very deep in the lore, although it's also more or less the lore's starting point. If you want a taste of MNOG, my wife and I did a playthrough of the game a few years back on KZbin. It's very short, only about 2 hours long, and it's become one of our most popular projects.

It's so wonderful to see one of my favorite childhood games gain so much popularity. I loved this game as a child and still play it often on my GameCube. I always found it funny how some people were horrified a bit by this game when they were kids, but I wasn't. During my childhood, I was interested in light horror games and TV shows. I loved playing spooky-themed games like Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin 2, Disney's Magical Mirror Starring Mickey Mouse, and the many Harry Potter and Zelda games. Some of my favorite levels in video games were spooky-themed, like Big Boo's Haunt in Super Mario 64 and the Halloween-themed level in the Simpsons Hit & Run. And I just loved watching Courage the Cowardly Dog and the Brave Little Toaster during my childhood. Piglet's Big Game has some creative elements that I admire, like the eerie ambiance and Piglet's unique Brave Faces. My favorite levels in this game are Eeyore's Dream and Owl's Dream because of their eerie and creative thems. I hope that a modding community will form to create some pretty cool Piglet's Big Game mods! I liked how you showed some of the gameplay on an old analog TV. It really sells the nostalgia of the games.

This is what I used to really appreciate about physical media in those days with "kids stuff" that smuggled sleeper gems which would fly under your parents' radar like Earthbound, PMD Explorers (or a lot of pokemon in general), Simpsons Hit and Run, Batman Beyond Return of the Joker, Scooby Doo Zombie Island. You'd pull this entertainment out from frivolous retail slop, often on discount, at walmart or the mall or what have you, your parents totally oblivious to any outwardly apparent unsafe content, and bring it home in the same bag as their groceries. Now alone with just you and the disc, you have no other option but to interact with that media on its own terms. No internet. When you power on the device, there are no other voices speaking other than that of the game or movie. So there's nothing to distract from the experience. And once in a while, against all odds, you would experience ART hidden in there. Yes, it didn't happen that often, and when you're that young, you might not even appreciate the difference between it and lazy garbage, but there is a real chance for something great to emerge like a diamond in the rough. I fear this may be lost on the upcoming generations.

@@RETRObutionofficial It made an impression I suppose. There’s many things about this game that are interesting but the thing that is most interesting is the combat system simply because of how fitting is for a eerie game, you simply form a line and then have a minigame that have a certain amount of time to do enough damage before the enemies kill your ass, it reminds me of the combat in resident evil gaiden which is similar. They could have done something far more simple like no adding combat at all and only focusing on the puzzle elements
@RETRObutionofficialАй бұрын
No combat and more stealth would've made it even freakier, but again, if I wanted to put on my English teacher cap it would've taken away from the whole concept of Piglet facing his fears if he couldn't fight lol

@RETRObutionofficial i meant to say that the combat system could been cut but the combat itself is ok, like imagine using part of the scenario to defeat the enemy like dropping a box on their head, this form of indirect combat could have worked given piglet smaller height in comparison to all other enemies
