it's not at all insane - they are buying them from a street vendor that typically doubles the price during rainy weather. They are in one of the most visited cities in the world at a HUGE tourist destination. One was a large umbrella that was like 50 bucks and the smaller one was 30 bucks. I wouldn't say they are "high quality" umbrellas but they didn't look super cheap, either so that's a fair price.
