Brilliant! My dad died today (he was 92, I'm 66) and I wasn't expecting to laugh this evening. Bless you, Simon Roper.

92 eh, as my friends dad who was old and has passed would say, he has had a good innings. Something about people who where the war children, they wasnt old enough to fight but there was a fight to survive at home in itself. They are what I describe as the last people of Great Britain, they knew the old world of who we where and what we come from which is lost on todays people. I hope you celebrate his life and may his soul rest.

I like Simon's red devil, which is new to me. There are a lot of old 'religious' swears that were frequently contracted or made into euphemisms, along the lines of: God's wounds! God's blood! Hell and the Devil confound it! Christ on a cross! Hell and damnation! But my personal favourite used to be very common here in Australia, but is much less heard these days: Struth! An old swear, its brevity and simplicity appeal to me - and for those unfamiliar with it, it's a contraction of God's truth!

Interesting thought about Welsh not being the original Celtic language (presumably to the British Isles), but rather a "Dragon" language? As we know that the Celts migrated northwest to the British Isles from the European continent, my thoughts are along the lines of what race of people inhabited the British Isles before the Celtic migration, and what language did they speak? I can't think for one moment that there wasn't a race of humans occupying the British Isles before the Celts migrated. In historical terms it's not that long ago, considering the age of the human race.
