As an owner of a 1996 (Fourth one) my advice is to check the weatherstrip as it is expensive to replace. Examine the water pump to make sure it has no leaks to prevent damage to the Opti-spark ignition. Make sure the steering wheel has no wobble from others using the steering wheel as an aid when exiting. Change the air filter as the C4 attracts all its intake air from the lower front air dam. Interior parts are expensive if one wants a stock look. Lastly, make sure the battery is in good shape. Never shut the hood with the doors open if you want to avoid cracking the hood.

Congrats on your purchase! I've owned a 1996 Collector Edition for 16 years now, most trouble free vehicle I've ever owned. For the record there were just three stock interior colors, Black, Red, and Grey

Brett and I did the Power Tour in ours in 2005, when it ended in Kissimmee. That was a fun trip. The Vette’s keep us young or something like that!

That's a great addition for sure. I have the same C3 that you have... 71 SBC with Holley Sniper, red/ black. My son has a 90 black on black vert. They go nicely together

Must agree ; those vettes are underrated. Had a 86 C4 that i drove into thee ground. Almost 400K i put on the clock. 4x3 transmission was bullet proof. I do miss that car sometimes. Maybe pickup another one someday.

400k on any car is impressive, but to do that in a C4 Corvette is amazing. I feel that now is the time to buy one. I think prices are going to start going up. The prices are starting to come down on the C5s. If I was to purchase another Corvette, it would be a C6. I would love a C7 but those will need to come down a lot more for me to afford one.

@@timewiththedurbins I just remember replacing rear the U joints, water pump, alternator, brake pads of course, a few relays, fuel pump once (easy to do as it pulls out of the rear lid) and just keeping regular maintenance preventative maintenance. In think the manual trans had alot to do with the miles. Amazing cars!

@@operationsword9457 With any classic car you can expect to have maintenance issues. Even though my serpentine belt looks good and has no cracks, I'm going to replace it along with the idler and tension pulleys. The belt has a GM number on it so not sure if it's original or not. Better to be safe than sorry. I'm sure I will have to replace the water pump and Opti Spark as some point as well.

@@timewiththedurbins Agreed! All my rigs are on a checklist maint. schedule. I usually replace the serpentines every 70K no matter how they look along with idler and tensioner.. Just beware quality of replacement parts. They are not all the same. I think this is a major issue with vintage car lovers....

Nice looking C4 for sure... I have a 71 in Bridge Hampton blue, but I wouldn't mind adding a C4 to the stable.

Bridge Hampton blue is a nice color. The C4s are a unfairly underrated. You get a lot of car for the money. They are fun to drive and pretty economical on fuel.

That Monte Carlo is a really nice car. I don't know what a C4 ZR1 would cost but I'm sure there is one out there for sale. It would look good sitting in your garage next to your Monte.

Personally I would leave the C3 the original color but I agree that Elkhart Green is a pretty nice color. 😁

The car was originally Brands Hatch Green, which is pretty much the same as Donny Brook Green. A dark green. If the car had been red originally, I would repaint it red. Since it's not I am going with the Elkhart green.

I'm not sure what type hose it is. I purchased from the hose stock at my local O'Reilly's Auto Parts Store. It was the only size they had in stock that fit the hard plastic tube.

I thought the Collector edition was built with a LT4

They were offered in both LT1 and LT4. The LT1 came with an automatic and the LT4 came with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Thanks. I did not like the looks of the C4s when they first came out, (and they are still not one of my favorite ones), but they have grown on me over the years, especially when you consider the amount of technological improves from the C3 to the C4. You get a lot of car for the money when you buy a C4.

I’ve got a 79 Vette that I bought years ago. Looking back I was pretty lucky because it was my first one and didn’t know much about them other than I wanted one. With rust on birdcage, electrical, and leaking issues, it had very little. The only regret is the smog laws in Calif. changed after I bought the car. So I have to leave on all the emission crap. Anyway I appreciate your videos. Good work.

@@inell6 I thought cars over a certain age were exempt from the emission requirements. I'm thankful Florida does not have emission standards.
