That was fun!! Not sure if it was me or not, but the BLI seemed to be a bit more crisp on the sounds

I love the tug-of-war! I know what I want for Christmas. I am always very impressed with Kato quality in all my locomotives.

Fantastic Jimmy. Personally I preferred the sound on the Broadway Limited version. It seemed more authentic and less tinny. The fact that I watched on my phone may have made a difference.

Hey an easy upgrade I made to mine- i ran a wire back from the tender and added a second speaker near the front to the cab. The stereo sound effect is amazing

Great video and interesting tug O war. I think the Kato has a slight edge in power and sound actually. The smoke generator is cool though, no doubt there. Enjoy!

I have done same loco classes with different sound decoders so that they have a bit of a difference. There are many that now have sound equalisation that can make them sound distinctly different.

The pulling challenge reminds me of Pushmi-Pullyu in the Dr. Dolittle classic. What other literary themed trials await us? 😅

Loved the tug of war. The eight year old in me was also thrilled to see it. I was rubbing my hands in anticipation when you announced what you were going to do. I was interested in how the bodies were both moving around as the wheels were slipping. It really showed that they were both working hard. In some respects, I prefer the BLI whistle, it seemed to have just that little bit more of bass sound. The one sound that was, again to me, different was the chuff sound. These appeared to be completely different, and I do not know which is closer to the prototype. Perhaps some of your other viewers can advise me?

Have three versions of N scale Big Boy, Atlas , Broadway limited, and Kato all with DCC / sound, some day would like to see a three way comparison between the three models.

This was fun! I'm just not that into the Big Boy though. I don't have a connection with too many steam locomotives, and if I do have a connection, I want it to be unique. I'm around the 765 probably a little more than most on this channel, the real thing, but it's really common for people to have it or something like it around here. I like small little 0-6-0 steam engines, like tank engines, but not Thomas.... I've got a GWR pannier tank that I love and a diesel BR Class 04 shunter that I love. The 04 is obviously diesel, but I love that GWR train since it's so unique. These are trains I picked up to mimic a French railroad where it seems like you just can't get something like that since it's so rare and in N scale, since it's meter gauge. There's also the point about having to get cars that that train would actually pull. Sad to note, my Class 04 shunter is limited to pulling about 6 or 7 cars of small size with 2 axles per car only.

Since you have the Kato Big Boy and it's the excursion version you should the the Kato Union Pacific excursion car set and run the whole thing. I'm waiting for the Broadway Limited HO Scale to come out so I can run it and 844 together with an excursion train.

Any damage to the traction tires? They don’t usually like that kind of abuse.

Beautiful locomotive, the Big Boy!! I’m sorry to say that I can’t model in N-Gauge because my astigmatism makes seeing the joints very difficult!!

I cannot imagine running one of these on my folding table layout. Let alone in real life.

Could set up two lonnnng parallel tracks up an adjustable grade, like on a 2x4 or something and see who can pull the most cars w/o stalling

A regular steam engine has 4 distinct chuffs per revolution of the drive wheels. I would expect 8 chuffs from an engine like the Big Boy. Am I wrong?

Excellent video Jimmy. I have a question. I've received my Kato Big Boy last week and I absolutely love it but I seem to be have an issue with running it on my layout that has Kato #6 turnouts and a double crossover turnout. For some reason I'm getting frequent derailments. Do you have any idea why I might be having this issue? I don't have this problem with my other locomotives.
@eurovnik10 ай бұрын
Excellent video and comparison. I think that size constraints mean it's impossible to achieve good sound in N. The laws of physics mean no bass so everything sounds tinny. To my ears DCC sound is borderline acceptable in large H0/OO locos and fine in O and G Scale.

Kudo's to the couplers! I fiigured once you ramped them up you would just rip the coupler knuckles out of that poor little covered hopper.

I actually used a Kato Hopper car for the barrier car because of the thick plastic couplers.

If you put a drive wheel on the bli at the rear driver's and would pull Kato around like skulled mule......Kato had traction wheel on front and rear driver's...while bli only has the traction wheel on the front drivers........I did a review on all three.....bli .... athearn and Kato ....Kato I wasn't impressed with it....only weighs 5.4 oz while bli weights at 8.5 oz and athearn at 7.7 oz ......was only lucky to pull 21 freight cars with the Kato ....at least n scale nats at katos booth theres only only do 20 cars around the track with alot of wheel spin ...draw bar that comes apart and other issues guys where complaining about...Kato was taking notes on these problems...... On sounds ESU is still off on there sounds to 4014...... So is bli......but athearn is spot on with theres with tsunami 2 even the crew talk is for more better then bli crew talk ....even mentioned ED the engineer.....
