*YOUR REACTION WAS PRICELESS, & MADE ME FEEL THE SAME WAY I DID THE 1ST TIME I HEARD THIS* I am so jealous, that you are just discovering the wonder, that is Angelina Jordan!!! You are truly in for the ride of your life 😊 I am often at a loss for words, when trying to describe Angelina Jordan's voice, or what genre she fits in, & I have accepted, she does not fit in any category, or genre, & is simply in league all of her own.....❤ 💚 💜 Every time I hear Angelina sing, I picture her stepping out of an old black & white movie, to transport us back in time, so we can fall in love with these genuine masterpieces again!

Not bad for a 9 year old. Take a fifties classic song by Screaming Jay Hawkins, arrange the music and then sing like a 40 year old jazz singer. This girl is a gift to us all. Welcome to Angelina's world.

For I Put A Spell On You - Angelina was 9 years old - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes "her wishes" and it is read by the recording producer/engineer. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. The spoken language is Norwegian: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmHJZKdpmdJ1mM0

For anyone that has watched Jay Hawkin's original, this tribute to him by a barely 9-year old that arranged this performance herself is mind-blowing. Angelina's version is more melodic and has no shock-rock moments, but the way this little prodigy managed to pay honest tribute to this wild song is nothing less than spectacular.

To your point...there is a video of her working with these same musicians on another Jay Hawkins song, Portrait of a Man (she called her version Portrait of a Child). They called her "the boss." With great affection. I have seen several reactors who are musicians or producers be quite shocked by her control and professionalism.

Alan, by all means it's okay to skip around. What you will find remarkable is after you listen to something she has recorded recently you may think it will affect something she recorded when she was younger, much younger. Forget that idea. Example: Whatever you listen to when she was 16-17-18 years old will be wonderful. And then, if you go back to when she was 8 years old and she sang 'What A Difference A Day Makes' at an outside gathering of thousands of people with a live band and adult backup singers, well, I think you know where I'm going. In essence, Alan, you're listening to an artist who interprets the message of love in a song and with her soulfulness she is able to convey the feeling of love to you with her voice and, I know this sounds crazy, but her age doesn't interfere with any of that. She captures us and we travel with her into a space where nothing else matters except listening to her sing 'for us'. Yes, she doesn't sing to us, she sings 'for us'.

I like that and it's so true, she sings 'for us.

A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice. She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the pianist, who smiled as he read them? They were her wishes (instructions) to the band how she wished therm to play the music. In the band, she was called a boss
@peterstadelmeier3 ай бұрын
Hi Alan, the arrangement is hers based on the original by Screaming Jay Hawkins from 1956, by the way she has always done her own arrangements since the beginning, that's why the bands affectionately call her "Boss" they all like playing with her because she is very respectful but also determined towards the musicians, it is done the way she wants it

I first discovered Angelina 4 years ago and have followed her every day since. At each age probably from when she was 10, I would wonder how it would even be possible for her to get any better. Then I see her a little older and I wonder again. She recently covered her own song "Bad Valentine". The original version was fantastic, but her jazzy cover of it is beyond magnificent. And once again I wonder "how is this even possible".

At the beginning of the video you see her writing notes on a price of paper. Apparently the band director said that they were her last minute “wishes”. Basically some changes to the arrangement.

Angelina's mother Sara reportedly said that since she was eight, it was like living with a tiny adult in the house. You will love the book, keep in mind that much of it was taken verbatim from her diary at age 6. AGE SIX! I was astounded at the profound thoughts she expressed in the story. It's very emotional, I often get choked up when reading it. Enjoyed your reaction and looking forward to more Angelina on your channel.

What does she sound like now? Rest assured that no matter the order, you will never be disappointed;) You can listen to 18 yr old Angelina then 8 yr old and be amazed and vice versa. It's not just the voice, the emotion she evokes, etc, but also the person she is;)

Thank you, I really enjoyed your comments. One thing I want to mention is that when you saw the musical director at the beginning looking at a score, he was looking at Angelina's "wishes" for changes to the arrangement. You still see a young girl, but pretty soon the sheer scale of her talent will obscure all that. What next? Maybe Feeling Good with the Livestream Tilbake, at age 10. Maybe Fly Me To The Moon for the opening of Quincey Jones' 85th birthday concert when she was 12, or maybe Million Miles, her own song, from when she was 14. Just a suggestion.

Love that last note. Just hop around and enjoy. She has so many amazing videos, but not everything is amazing. But she does have a few dozen songs that are the reason she became pretty famous. Some are the best versions of a particular song Like "Bang Bang" on NGT. She outsings Adele doing Adele. Not because she's louder, It's her phrasing and emotional maturity. Like this song, She understood the assignment! It's a little over the top (unless you've heard/seen Screaming Jay's version.) but her devotion and professional demeanor is remarkable. She sounds like a child, but has the ear for understanding the artist she covering. Like a child with 40 years of experience. Her ability to edit a song is another thing she excels at. Her biggest challenge...being a singer during a time when the world is into mindless, dancing performances. Some...many... like that current trend. Most older people were exposed to remarkable artist for decades. We have an ear for true talent. We were lucky to grow up during that timeframe. Because of that, she's loved by older people. True music heads.

I’m very wrll versed on the song and the original and I agree because us older heads have experienced more music we can or we maybe can differentiate dross from good .. From what I have gathered, she largely acts as her own producer. In the studio she is known as "the boss". At the opening of this video you see her putting the finishing touches on the arrangement and the band directors reaction to it. Absolutely a phenomenal talent ! I am so happy that my life and her life had some overlap and that I am able to witness this before I die. I have been involved with music on both sides of the glass for over 60 years and have watched the decline of the music industry. This gives me hope.

Ive had my involvement in the development and production process but I stepped away , good producers will always get the best from an artist , I listened to Rick Reuben who basically said “ I’m not an expert but I can tell what works and what’s next “ that’s a huge paraphrase, but if AJ is fostering that environment, she will at the very least have the ability to make music she wants 😎 thank you for sharing and getting me to ramble 😂👍

I’ve been following Angelina for about six years. She is easily the best popular singer I’ve ever heard. And she is the best across many different genres, as you’ll see. There have been dozens of reactors who discover young AJ and say they are going to go chronologically. It doesn’t work. Angelina has so many incredible songs before age 10 that reactors can’t wait to hear her later songs. And when Angelina turned 10, her vocal ability exploded. You forget you’re listening to a very, very young child. The good news is that it doesn’t matter how you approach this. By title, by age, by genre-it’s all incredible. AJ is a jazz singer in her bones, and you’ll see that influence in many of her songs. Pick whatever you like, but my list of favorite Angelina songs has always included her America’s Got Talent performance of Bohemian Rhapsody. Her arrangement, her vocals, her emotion are just stunning. Watch what she can do at 13. Here’s the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3eTe4lobduagtksi=7KaTnl0Za8xhQbh3

Am subscribing. You look younger than your insight and knowledge of the music of an earlier era. I'm 70+. It was the comparison of Angelina to Judy Garland that prompted me to subscribe and write a comment. I've been waiting for someone to mention this. I also appreciate the mention of the Doo Wap era and how the entertainment industry of Judy's time treated their stars as products, regardless of any long term effects on their lives. Drugs, plastic surgery, abortions, payoffs to 'catch and kill' journalist to kill stories of stars being pregnant, gay, etc. You're right, the entertainment industry of old did wrongfully ENHANCE their stars, burn them out, then spit them out. The only exception, who DIDN'T get screwed somehow was Shirley Temple, although she was wrongly exposed, early in her career. The main thing is, she did get out of the business and lived a normal, fruitful and happy life. Judy wasn't as lucky, but she was more TALENTED. By 15, Judy sang in 'Broadway Melody of 1938' and sang one of my favorite songs, 'You Made Me Love You', a song she actually sang to Clark Gable at his birthday party. Looking forward to more of your reaction videos. Good luck with your channel! Another spell was cast by 9yo Angelina. Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “Wish List” of suggested changes to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

Hello Alan, very interesting reaction, with certain considerations that other reactors don't go into. The part that I would like to address is that of course there is no way to go through over 200 songs in total chronological order to try to get into what this prodigy is all about. What I would suggest is that you do it on the chronological level, but in a way that expediates the experience. What I would suggest is that you pick at least two songs from each year of her development two songs from when she was 8, two songs from when she was 9, two songs from when she was 10, and so on. Now that way you would be exposing yourself, and going on what would be surely a wonderful journey without the taking a year to do so. Doing it in a way that I am suggesting would let you see her development, and as she begins to grow because she literally will in front of your eyes get better, and better, and better as she develops her talent. The first thing you might appreciate is that as a child she is literally the one who is forcing and working on her development. This in itself shows a very sophisticated approach to her own personal development, and it is astounding. I have a few suggestions on some of the songs and the order of her development though as you go through the journey there may be things that will catch your eye that you might want to listen to. Initially I don't think it's good to go from her young start to where she is now because that is missing the astounding stages of her development, and I do mean they all are astounding. One of the main things you'll see about this young artist is her absolute courageousness, and how she attacks her art of performing. She is fearless in the things that she will push herself to try because it always turns out in her accomplishing, and moving to the next level in her art. You will get an answer to your question how she works with the world class musicians. Angelina reimagined the song with the title portrait of a child. Loved your reaction to IPASOY IN Every aspect and I’m really happy you found Angelina. She is an important and true artist of the highest order. My opinion. Thank you for your insightful reaction and comments. Although you may have seen some of this, it never hurts to review. Norwegian born Angelina Jordan began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became one of the youngest ever vocalists to win an international Got Talent Show! Her performance at 9 years old of Screamin Jay Hawkins, I Put a Spell on You is considered one of the finest jazz recordings ever of a 9-year-old vocalist! Angelina also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Angelina sings in English which is only her third language! She is a true prodigy. She is now 18, and has recorded a huge library of songs, including covers and originals. A major attraction to Angelina's music is the emotion and attitude she conveys, Even though she may not have experienced the life events! She is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices as she can adjust her tone, style, and register for any song or genre. She was signed by Republic Records when she was 14. She was not widely promoted for a few years, as her family wanted to allow her a normal childhood. However, things have changed since she graduated school in the past year. She released two original music video singles from Republic Records, Love Don't Let Me Go, and Now I'm the Fool, coinciding with her new six song EP called Old Enough. She performed two shows in Las Vegas in February, and also performed Unchained Melody at the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo last December. She performed in Los Angeles in September. She is currently working with Toby Gad, a multi Grammy award-winning producer and composer, and has released two songs. If I were a boy, originally by Beyoncé, and Bad Valentine, which was officially released at her September 20th concert in LA. We believe a world tour could be in the making to coincide with the release of an album. Here is a semi-chronological KZbin playlist for Angelina of over 200 songs, beginning with 16 performances including originals, her EP, and a few specialty songs. Then it starts chronologically beginning with Gloomy Sunday from Norway's Got Talent. kzbin.info/aero/PL2v8kgVeo4EbQD6l_WAVjOfItquzW7oEc&si=HrEm55lV164yKJqu Here is an extended playlist of approximately 400 performances compiled and categorized, thanks to mosttodo10. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6mzmqijjqmSqJIsi=anjDyUnXdkPjCEf0 Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may makes many people emotional. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She even stated at 8 years old that she would be donating her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing a special bond. Angelina captures hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. She is a messenger of love, light, and hope, wrapped in a blanket of humility. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world to spread love and peace. I trust this will cause you to embrace her as millions of others have, and that you will continue down the rabbit hole from which you will not want to escape. Peace and love. Please continue to include in your description the artist Official Channel as well as the original video, if you have not already done so. Verbally encouraging your viewers to like comment and subscribe to yours and the artists' videos and channels boosts subscriptions and algorithms for both of you.

I encourage everyone to buy her book. The proceeds all go to charity. Go to her official site, not her official KZbin site. It was when I checked the first time, but then when I checked back, I was able to purchase it. The musicians are awesome! But in my opinion, it’s not so much that Angelina is working with world class musicians. It’s that the musicians are working with world class Angelina! At nine years old, she arranged this herself. You can also see her putting the finishing touches to paper and the conductor reading them at the video’s beginning. These musicians fell in love with her and affectionately gave her a nickname - “ The Boss”! 😁

I think you should jump around & listen to songs that you know & like at various ages, as well as her originals. The chronological thing is great, but it just takes too long & meanwhile she keeps dropping new originals & covers. When you were speaking about child singers like Judy Garland, she came on the scene with World-wide acclaim at the age of 16. Angelina did that at 7! If the Elvis song you are reacting to next is Suspicious Minds, she is 16 in that, for comparison. I recommend you listen to her latest release of her original song, Bad Valentine, that she co-wrote & performed with songwriter/producer/ pianist Toby Gad. The original version is more in the style of a power pop song that is amazing, but the Piano Diaries version is very jazzy/bluesy that is very melancholic, nuanced & emotional. It's a Masterpiece & many "Angels," including me, think it's her best performance, to date. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH3RaoeXn9iosM0
