I Put a Wii in this CRT

I put a Wii on a BVM input card. Fun little side project.
Not big or crazy enough for a full length video, so I made a short instead.
If someone is using this video to try to sell you a CRT using this video, or saying it's worth more because it's "viral", they are probably trying to sell it to you for far more than it's worth, and far more than they bought it for. This model of monitor is finicky, difficult to service, and very particular about video signals and sync. I would not recommend this model to a novice in the CRT hobby, especially at the unreasonable prices people ask for them.

You won’t believe how often actual film equipment was used as sci-if prop, most of the stuff just looks like weapons or just military tech. In Aliens they mounted guns on a camera stabilizing vest, in spectral they used large cameras for energy weapons, the technology we use to stabilize cameras on camera-cars or helicopters is derived from a system to stabilize guns on tanks, same for widescreen lenses, those were first used for wide & sharp tank gunners sight. The battery connectors used for some electrically assisted weapons is the same we use for connecting lights…
@ArkayeCh

@@barclaymovingpictures3041 I love this trivia lol. Especially how because of the world wars driving industry and economy into a sharp directional change, a lot of regular companies were jnvolved in weapons because it was suddenly the only priority. Like my favorite fun fact is how General Electric is responsible for a minigun.

Not sure why there are so many people who keep bringing up you can play x or y on your phone or on regular hardware when it's obviously against the point. I'm the only family member left (as far as I'm aware,) a happy owner of 2. A LCD falls or even gets slightly bumped the wrong way, it's usually over 80 to 90% of the time all over. A Sturdy CRT, especially wood framed ones just shrug that off. I've gone through 3 LCD, where as the CRT my mom got me back in 2004 or 2005, still works. Only issue is the right speaker is quieter than the left.

For those asking about the colorful diagonal lines across the screen: they are not present in person. They are a "rolling shutter" visual effect/artifact. A modern camera does not capture an image all at once, it "scans" the image from top to bottom. CRTs also create an image by scan from top to bottom. So normally, if you match the frame rate of the two, you can capture a pretty still looking image, because they are both aligned and scanning top to bottom. However, KZbin shorts are vertical, and to capture a vertical video, I had to rotate my camera 90 degrees. So now the camera was scanning from right to left, while the CRT was still scanning from top to bottom. This misalignment of the two scanning directions created the visual artifact of the diagonal lines. You can learn more about this effect by searching "rolling shutter".
@richardwattior
@richardwattior Жыл бұрын
genuine question - why not just film vertical video with ur phone? a newer iphone would look just as good as this video quality (in my opinion, i truly don’t mean to sound like a pretentious dweeb lol)
@ShankMods
@ShankMods Жыл бұрын
@@richardwattior For the most part, newer phones try to do everything "automatically" and do not let you dial in the settings as much. In order to film a CRT, you need to manually adjust settings to synchronize the settings with the refresh rate of the CRT. So like framerate and shutter speed. If they are not matched, the CRT will just flicker like crazy and not be visible in the video. I cannot for the life of me get good photos or videos of CRTs with my Pixel 4A camera. Phones still use a rolling shutter, so the same issue also applies. Most phones will likely have the shutter setup for the landscape orientation, so if I have the phone in the portrait orientation, it will still be misaligned with camera. The only real solution would be to film in landscape and crop the sides of the video off, which would result in a VERY low resolution video.

I think I also saw another channel by the name of Peter Knetter who put a Nintendo Wii inside a boombox. The boombox at first is Hello Kitty Themed and to go with its theme, he got a pink Wii and Wii Remote. Next, he opened the boombox, removed all the components, and did some modifications, a way that the entire console fit inside the boombox back in first with the front sticking out. For the speakers, he took computer speakers and properly fit them in the area behind the boombox's speaker grills. The sensor bar is stripped down with its sensors sticking out the front of the boombox. And finally, he added the screen is small that it fits on the boombox's CD cover and it opens like one too. The console, screen, and speakers are powered by an extension cord that had a clicker switch.
