Amusingly enough, the feature Iwata originally intended as a light parental control backfired in my house. Because I'm a stickler for notification lights, I would always check the playtime just to get rid of it. You can imagine 4th grade me's confusion when I started finding this weird game I didn't even own on there. Well, it turns out my dad had bought Metroid Prime 3 for himself, and had been playing it after I went to bed. He didn't want to show me because he thought I might be too young based on the rating, but he was forced to let me watch after I figured it out. The feature that was meant to bust the child busted the parent instead!

Regardless of that, my dad was the one who judged what games I got to play and his first thing was to (responsibly) check the ESRB rating. As I was only 9 at the time, decidedly NOT a teen, his first choice was not to let me watch/play. He did the same thing a year or two later with Half-Life. Regardless of ratings, do you know how annoying it is to try to do anything with an elementary school kid backseating you?

I love the Mii characters. I mean, they got alot of charme and some people got really creative with their faces and turn them into art. And don't forget that thanks to the Mii's, you can play as (a cartoony) yourself! I wish Nintendo would give Mii's a bit more attention (I mean, they're still in the Switch but the Mii Maker is hidden in the system menu). One of my Mii's is Jessica. I really love her. I made her on my Wii back in 2008 or 2009 IIRC. I have her in all my other Nintendo consoloes. I have her as my sidekick in SSB4/SSBU, as my wife in Tomodachi Life, as a roomie in Miitomo, as a "profile" in Wii Fit U to have her appear in the games when I play it, and even more. I remember when the Wii was called the Nintendo Revolution. I also remember the Wii Shop music scaring the crap out of me because the music starts at full volume after a total silence while connecting.

I loved playing my old wii. I was around 1 when the wii was released, so i grew up with it. Even after we got a XboxOneS, a Nintendo Switch, ect, we still used the wii the most. Those nice nights when me, my older sister and older brother would just play mariokart or Wii Sports Resorts.

I'm not sure why he didn't mention it, but Nintendo at one point did announce that as a possibility but only on a specific model instead of it being standard. Having Netflix did kinda make up for it, I remember in the very early days one had to ask Netflix to sent a free disk in order to have this functionality, eventually they were able to release an app.

The reason why it wasn't available as an app but a disc was because of a loophole with a Microsoft agreement. Microsoft had an exclusive agreement to include a Netflix app on the Xbox 360, but it didn't mention a disc that did the same thing. ​@@sion8

I find it so interesting how one of my childhood consoles that I still love to play with my family came out before I was born! I look at the back of my Wii games and am amazed at the quality (though unimpressive compared to modern games) of these games despite when they came out. I like learning about the history and how it was made and I really enjoyed this video especially how it’s so rewatch able for me :D

My mom received a Wii for Christmas a year or two after launch, and I was definitely the one who used it the most. My favorite game used to be Wii Sports Resort, but I lost the copy that came with the console years ago. Last Christmas, however, my mom bought me a new copy. I learned that if you sit on the title screen long enough, the system keeps a record of activity within the game which is displayed with copies of how the Miis looked when it happened, even if they were edited later. I think that's a very sweet touch, as I got to reminisce about my time in the 2000s and 2010s spent playing the Wii with my sister and cousins.

I’d love some sort of modder to basically create a fully realized wii. Something that had all of the original ideas while keeping all of the functions it has now. It would be amazing to see what it could’ve been like if they had actually added everything. I know there’s already a way to bring back most of the old channels but it’d be really cool to see something like that expanded.

Back in 2009 or so, I talked to a game developer about their game Ready Creatures. It was OK, but I was more interested in learning about how development systems worked at the time. Anyway, they actually stored the game on the SD Card itself. And Wii Games are usually a few GB, so that's possibly where the "GB" string comes from in the unused data!

@Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec II Nur R34 '02 ummm, the every Wii can play DVD, the Wii disk is just a DVD. It's not a hardware problem, it's a licensing of the software that decrypts the Dolby Audio files. As stated in the video, you can activate the playback feature with any Wii by just applying the Dolby License Activation code. They showed how this is what Microsoft did with the Original Xbox, you just bought a dongle separately that held the activation number in it and that's it. Well, technically it was also a wireless dongle for the DVD remote it came with, but you get what i mean.
