I Put Air Ride On My Car And I Broke It

I've had air ride on my 1979 Lincoln Continental for about 7 months, and through that time I've experienced some issues. I have a few things for you to consider when putting airbags on your car. Learn from my mistakes!

Loosen the bolts and ad a rubber bushing... so it has flex, add an additional bump stop on the top so they meet...as opposed to letting the metal chew them up.

Oh, Brother! I saw broke it and was quite worried. I am glad you remedied Miss Claudine's issue. I will leave my 79 Collector Series as is although I had previously considered lowering it. The suicide doors are still on my mind though. I have to get that on the better half's mind or face the wrath of Janet.

Sounds like you've already solved the wrath issue! Goes something like, "You know what darling? I've thought about it and I'm not lowering the Lincoln AND doing the suicide conversion. Mmmmmm... KYB's give excellent response on a Continental. The air suspension is good for aerodynamics on the highway and if you can make Active Suspension work. Lowering a car that long can lead to a bad crash if an air bag or tire fails. You won't roll on three wheels. Just saying. You can get a super nice ride and handling both, but not that way... 😉

@@SkaggsGarage If you just want that low rider look to rent the car out for movies or whatever... I would suggest you drop it by using 15 or even 14 inch wheels if they clear those brakes ( it seems yo have small diameter drums at least in back), but even low profile 15" will get it low without messing up the suspension geometry. Of you install a flexible aero skirt it will look even lower. That is such a long car, it already will look lower just by proportion. The lower diameter wheels will also not break your plastic fender walls. Try widened factory steel wheels with real Continental hubcaps, you will probably find 295/50 series with add on wide whitewalls will give it a real trick look. The long Nyack body with rear fenderskirts already has a strong look. The skinny 18" wheels... Nyet. Cheers 🍻

Great car brother, but does it worth to install air suspension, is it softer than the original setup?

Not really, I think it's a perspective. The lower the height, the less air pressure in the bags, so a little more floaty. Raise it, a little more firmer. In retrospect, the stock wheels and tires definitely give a smoother ride overall, more sidewall cushion...😉! Thanks for watching!

Great vid! I need to address the rear shocks on mine too. Unless I have the bags almost full, the rear ride is terrible and bounces hard. I'll have to measure and see if it is a shock issue. What ones did you end up getting?
