Use some polishing compound and a buffing wheel on a dremel to turn the inside of the lid into a mirror. It adds zero space to your kit and is super useful. It can be time consuming, but it's worth it.

@@sda4jesus1 I was going to comment you should go look at the Urban Prepper. My Urban Altoids Kit is in a Krispy Kreme Mint tin because of both your influence. I carry a tin because of Urban Prepper however I also have an EDC carry which has been effected by Best Damn EDC. My tin is the basics that I always carry and for example it does not have a blade so I can remove my EDC blade if the situation warrants it (UK life for you). One thing I carry that no one else seems to is a CPR face mask.

Great video and nice idea Taylor! I'd do some different stuff, though: include a lighter (it is more practical in urban context); leave the LM Squirt as it has almost all the needed tools (including a blade, so that would leave more space by taking the other two blades out); include a titanium toothpick, as you said; include some paracord (you can make a sleeve for the box, so no space would be needed inside); include a small D-schakle/carabiner! That would be it ;) But this is a great box and idea! Maybe some day you can make a video with submissions of this kind 👌🏻 Edit: include a paper clip! Always ;)

I got rid of my car two years ago living and working in an urban area. I just got a car for COVID/change of position. Previously, I carried a lot more as I needed to have a full first aid kit (in an altoids tin) and variety of other things. However, I’m downgrading now that I have a car, so here are my two cents (and what I’m literally putting in mine now): ear plugs (loud concert/place), $20 (pay off a bar tab if you forget your wallet), sewing needle and thread (ripping pants), hair tie, two band aids, blood stop (I get a lot of bloody noses and sometimes you need them to stop really fast before a meeting), micro fiber cloth (for glasses), alchol pads, ibuprofen, antacid, a days worth of meds (normally I carry 72 hours worth on me but slimming this down), a pen, and I may get those cables you had as my current cables wouldn’t fit.

I always like these mint tin setups. I've used them as modular groups use for my bags that I can keep or grab and go - much smaller one for medication (but greater variety). One for first aid (wipes, etc). If there is anything that isn't carried elsewhere in my bag, (Leatherman multitool & battery packs) or EDC (key setup (cables, Sim tools) or pockets (Leatherman CS, Space Pen, handkerchiefs (the Earth equivalent of a towel.)) that could be useful I will setup a dedicated set maybe PC related (SD card etc). Good setup I liked it.

First off, Mr. Martin, let me say that I'm a first time viewer. Followed a KZbin recommendation, because I love the topic of EDC and I get lots of ideas that sometimes influence me to change up my carry. At 0:20, when you tipped up the Altoids tin, I thought to myself, hasn't anyone told him it's 2020 and he isn't teenager!!! I'm so glad I didn't click off, because this is one of the best pocket kits I've ever seen! I can't wait to see some more of your library of work. Definitely an LSCS for the algorithm. Second, what a great community you have on your channel. I must have read at least 100 of the comments and the feed back is incredible. Many great inclusions or substitutions that are great! Dental floss, cash and a tiny magnet, come to mind. But more impressive! Not a troll in the bunch!!! A video goes out to an active audience of nearly 150 thousand people and you couldn't find one! On the INTERNET!!! I have to DM you on one of your other sites, so you can share the secret of that one. (-; Finally, my two cents worth of suggestions: I would swap out the Leatherman micro, I can't help but feel a pair of pliers would come in handier in an urban situation like, holding down that nut while tightening the bolt with the screwdriver. at least, more so than the larger scissors, which I would want in my suburban/bordering-on-rural kit. Add in the floss, $40-100 cash (I don't have a feel for how thick the gear was already and $40 will get you an Uber back to the hotel/home, which is what something like this kit is meant for) and the magnet (or magnetize the needles, because, even in an urban setting, if you are unfamiliar with the city, it might help to know for certain which is north. Sorry for the verbosity, but what can I say: a true Boomer, through and through! LOL Keep up the great work, Best of health and success to you and the family,

One recommendation: put all meds like alc wipes, bandaids in a zip tie bag, and put on a TOP of all that gear. It easy to take off(zippac hold all together), and pick multitool for example, but if you get cut it makes much more easier take care of yourself, not taking off all your stuff to take one bandaid from the bottom.

I am sure there is something on the multitool or the utility knife to use on the ferro rod rather than the scalpel. As a healthcare professional I see all kinds of uses for a scalpel that size. Added it to my list of things to buy. I have always been intrigued by the idea of a micro kit. I keep playing around with building one but have not come up with MY solution yet. Thanks for the video. Ok, here is a suggestion: Take a plastic soda straw and cut it to length to fit in your Altoid tin. Next, take a pair of needle nosed pliers and grip one end of the straw, leaving about 1/8" sticking out the other side of the jaws. Take a lighter and melt the 1/8" part and then quickly squeeze it together with the pliers and hold it for about 10-15 seconds. This will seal the end of the straw. Next, squirt some anti bacterial salve into the straw leaving about 1/4" of space at the end. Repeat sealing process and oila! It will fit in your tin nicely and be there is needed.

suggestion: get rid of the redundancies regarding cutting tool, maybe put a micro fixed blade in there. the buck hartsook is cheap and available in s30v with bos heat treat. another suggestion: put a rubber band (cut apart bicycle inner tube) around the tin, that way you can further utilize your ferro rod, because you have good tinder. you can also cut up that rubber further, so it makes more rubber bands. one thing i really miss in this 'loadout' is duct tape. i dont see myself leaving the house without duct tape. and i was looked at funny because of that, but everybody was happy to have me putting some of my duct tape to use when they needed it;)

The kit should supplement what's already IN your pockets.....so knife in the pocket? then you don't need a knife in the kit. Otherwise, good to go for the most part. Maybe some zip-ties or some thin line / Kevlar line to secure something if you need to. Couple of safety pins to hold two pieces of cloth together (if you tear your pants or shirt)? Remember, it's your EDC/Urban survival kit....so what do you need when you're away from home/office/vehicle? Can you fix a pair of glasses with what's in the tin? Fix your knife? Fix your watch? An altoids tin kit is something you Always carry on you.....if you put it in a bag, then you have a bag to carry larger items / more shit, you don't NEED the tin at that point.

First and foremost: that scalpel blade(known as a #11 blade in the surgical theater)is probably the most versatile blade out there. Also, it will(if you're careless)will do SERIOUS damage to human, animal, cloth, etc., tissue/material. If you ever use it, knowing ALL of this, will startle the most experienced bushcrafter. It will cut you wide open before you know you are cut!!! It's the blade that surgeons use to make small incisions in blood vessels for "grafting" OTHER vessels,, used the dura matter(outside membrane of the brain)daring surgery, and even has been popularized by You Tube "Pimple Poppers". USE CAUTION!!! Use a hemostats or pliers to change the blade!! The only field applications I can think of are(IF you are properly trained)I creating an airway, or drilling a smashed fingernail.

I like your videos in general, but for this, i gotta say, that scalpel thing, and that box-cutter-blade-thing are a bit redundant given you have a blade on your Leatherman. Further more, even though you have gear that can read your MicroSD card, a tiny usb Flash drive (Like SanDisk Fit) are much more versatile, and usable everywhere. You can plug it in any computer, and with sd card, not so much. Also, you have tweezers on you Micra, as well as those scissors (that can clearly make do with urgent fingernail clipping). Continuing on my personal rant (my oppinion only, NHF), you also have that phillips/flathead on your Micra, so no need for that additional stand alone tool. Im just looking at this from an urban point of view. In the city, you wont need fire (unless needing to light a cigarette to a random lady, for which a small Bic lighter works better than a ferro rod). Besides that lighter, i would dump in a $20 bill, and maybe 2 quarters, also a piece of paper with ICE contacts (or engraved metal plate with the same), maybe 1-2 rubber bands and a piece of dental floss. Anyways, great channel, i envy all the gear and especially pocket knives you review which i can't afford (my EDC pocket go-to is a Victorinox Pioneer X).

Replace the SD card and USB drive with a ultra portable microSD USB adapter. It'll be the same real estate as the ultra portable USB drive you already have. I'd add in a mini packet of mouth wash and capped tooth brush of some sort cuz, well, urban survival. Probably a small roll of duct tape rolled in on itself or something. A small folded plastic bag cuz you never know when you gotta bag up some water, evidence, what have you. Maybe some disposable gloves and a condom. The disposable gloves for obvious reasons and condom not just for sex but can be used for I don't know...improvised wound plug, tie up usb to swallow, maybe you EDC a pistol and gotta use whatever lubricant to clear a failure after you gtfo of situation and have a sec or maybe even the bolt of an AR, whatever. A single needle and some thread and .4mm or so monofilament. Oh, and probably some ultraportable window breaker and a window cutter and possibly a shim tool. I'd probably dump the pills into a small plastic baggy and add in one of those metal cards that have punch out lock picks.

Although this is one of the urban kits that I've seen, I'm not sure this should be called a "survival" kit :/ . Apart from a choice items, this is more of an "urban inconvenience kit", which seems to be endemic to these. No hate, I still left a like, but I'd like to see more actual emergency gear, in one these (that wouldn't be redundant to a wilderness tin). Anyway, thanks!

I was just thinking that you could maybe think along the 5 or 10 Cs and lose a couple of tools. It's a great kit the way it is. I would add a piece of cotton tinder, a condom for water, you already are redundant with cutting tools so lose one or two. I know it's a lot of different ways to think of this small kit as an EDC urban survival and I have seen them packaged lots of ways to aid the individual. Yours is cool though, I like it. Just a thought.

If in your truck, I would add $20 in cash. Possibly could buy 3 gallons of gas…. Maybe?

Mirror, fresnel lens, paper or couple post it notes, duct tape and a emergency blanket. You could turn the inside lid into mirror by polishing compound and a buffer. Then add couple sheets of paper preferably rite in the rain cut to size of lid to protect the mirror part rather than post it's. Cut the fresnel for fine print or fire starting. to fit add that to the the paper. Blanket and duct tape you could lash to tin with the band you have around it. Also add some water purification tablets.

I tape a flat razor to the inside of the lid with 2 fishing hooks. That way you have a small piece of duct tape, the razor and hooks flat and out of the way of your fingers. 😎

You need paper. Maybe a couple sheets from a pocket notebook or a sticky note or two. Pen isn’t much good without paper.
