From a guy who works with fiber lasers: If y’all plan on using fiber cables frequently I’d recommend getting a splicer. The one I use is a Sumitomo Electric Type-Q101-CA. You will simply be fusing the two fibers together. It won’t affect performance and idiot proof. Splicer will tell you if it’s a good or bad splice and what Db lose you have. Splicing and putting on a splice protector is significantly easier and more reliable than those fast connect.

They were just trying to convert from one type of connector to another. By far the easy way to do that is to buy a short cable with different connectors in each end and use an adapter to connect them together. Will only cost you a few dollars and requires no skill or equipment at all. They should get some fiber cleaning gear however. Dirty connectors is the number one problem in fiber installations.

Originally, I was going to comment about the lack of harness in a scissor lift, but as it turns out, per Canadian federal law, harnesses are not required on scissors if they have guardrails. However, most provinces require harnesses with non shock absorbing lanyards, but work safe BC does not require fall protection in scissor lifts, Ontario on the other hand, requires fall protection in any sort of mobile work platform, regardless of if it’s elevated or not.
@Blairfriesen945 ай бұрын
Not familiar with BC legislation but for Manitoba, the only exception to the harness requirement is if you're not driving the scissor lift. As long as the lift remains stationary, you can go as high as you want without a harness.
@jzytaruk4 ай бұрын
Pretty sure its specified by work safe bc @ 3m, regardless of movement or not in a scissor lift. Most employers will require you to have a harness if your feet are above 6-9ft, or near a leading edge (regardless of height).

Single suite renovation/installation as depicted in this video is NOT "enterprise-level tech." The server/networking videos are definitely fun and arguably the most interesting LTT content (with the all-time most interesting LTT content being the original moving vlog series), but they definitely are not enterprise grade. The 24 hour access control is arguably the closest they come to an enterprise level issue, and they gloss over the subject for sake of keeping a relatively long video on pace.

You're talking utter bullsh*t, what do you call rack mounted switches with 25Gb Links, and many many fibre links, if that's not enterprise what the hell else are you calling it?! And more importantly, what networking kit would you say is better than this? And there are little reminders to use G5 Domes in places they could be tampered with, versus G5 Turrets that can absolutely be more easily screwed with if they aren't high up. Can I do everything myself? No, I will need some professional help on wiring (especially outdoors) and camera mounting. As long as you're not doing something stupid (like climbing up onto the guardrails) or leaving the lift while in the air, you shouldn't need fall arrest on a scissor lift. The rails are high enough to prevent you from falling out and there's no articulation (as there is in boom lifts) that could potentially tip you out. Speaking as someone who hits their head about 80% of the time I'm using a lift of any kind, a helmet wouldn't be a bad idea though. The access control is a super cool concept. I’m not sure exactly what amenities or programs you’ll have in the building, but the potential is endless. Say I’m playing badminton and decide I want to go play in the VR room. I just hop on the app, purchase access for $12 a month, and it updates my key in real time. Only downside is you’ll always have the biggest challenge in security, people. Not sure how you’re going to prevent someone from just standing by the door until someone leaves and letting themselves in.

I sell and install access control for a living. For the strike. If you don't want to cut out the dust box and cut the frame you need a no cut strike. It will fit in the dust box and no need to modify the frame.

It's just not the right caliber of gear for a space like that. Ruckus, Cambium, Aruba, Juniper, Cisco, Extreme Networks, Fortinet, EnGenius, Mellanox etc are much more common to see in commercial installs.
@just-a-waffle5 ай бұрын
They’re just talking about all these experimental features that they’re planning to run in a business, I prefer much more boring business networks Meraki, arista, Aruba, juniper, Palo Alto Just equipment you can set up and expect to just work without intervention.
@nylohro40915 ай бұрын
They really should have hired a contractor to setup the networking and plan it out. Their unifi stuff is okay for homes or the office but if you are doing a large commercial area you need to get people that are really dedicated in that field to give you the best setup you can get. They would be knowledgeable of any potential problems and prevent them from the start, whereas I can see Linus and team encountering issues and making further videos of well this problem happened with our network.

Don't make this mistake with your NVR 13:15. Seagate should have given them SkyHawks. Don't use data center drives in your NVR, even if they are enterprise grade.
@jamescollins60855 ай бұрын
Why not?
@BansheeBunny5 ай бұрын
@@jamescollins6085 Desktop, NAS and Data Center drives write linearly; like a record player. Each surveillance drive can record around 32 1080p streams at once, across the entire platter. The Data Center drive has enough bandwidth to write for several cameras at once but if you add the workload of scrubbing and play back to it, expect a lot of hitching. Edit: There are Data Center drives with two sets of heads but this is cost prohibitive and may still cause issues.

One way to tell if someone isn't serious about their network: they use consumer gear like ubiquiti
@CloverMind4 ай бұрын
Also they do 180 with the wind. Watch earlier videos and one can summarize dedicated devices are better, separate router, switch, APs, definitely and obviously NAS and Security NVRs. Now of course suddenly since UI is making them and handing them out free for plugs, its okay to combine router, switch, NAS, NVR, controller and whatever else UI wants to cram together. Oh and look at the fancy LEDs. Even neanderthals would love such light shows. Obviously networking was a big thing for the neanderthals. 😂😂😂
