From a guy who works with fiber lasers: If y’all plan on using fiber cables frequently I’d recommend getting a splicer. The one I use is a Sumitomo Electric Type-Q101-CA. You will simply be fusing the two fibers together. It won’t affect performance and idiot proof. Splicer will tell you if it’s a good or bad splice and what Db lose you have. Splicing and putting on a splice protector is significantly easier and more reliable than those fast connect.

By far the easy way to do that is to buy a short cable with different connectors in each end and use an adapter to connect them together. Single suite renovation/installation as depicted in this video is NOT "enterprise-level tech." The server/networking videos are definitely fun and arguably the most interesting LTT content (with the all-time most interesting LTT content being the original moving vlog series), but they definitely are not enterprise grade. The 24 hour access control is arguably the closest they come to an enterprise level issue, and they gloss over the subject for sake of keeping a relatively long video on pace.

@@terpfen Enterprise: "products and services that are designed to meet the needs of large organizations". I'd say LTT is a pretty large organization in terms of networking and electronics needs. A LAN gaming centre with potentially 100+ people in it needing fast connection definitely counts as enterprise. You're talking utter bullsh*t, what do you call rack mounted switches with 25Gb Links, and many many fibre links, if that's not enterprise what the hell else are you calling it?! And more importantly, what networking kit would you say is better than this? Because You're going to be fairly hard pressed to beat a lot of this kit unless you start becoming like an ISP themselves or something. I think 700+ CAD$ pricetag per switch pushes you into enterprise level tech easily

Originally, I was going to comment about the lack of harness in a scissor lift, but as it turns out, per Canadian federal law, harnesses are not required on scissors if they have guardrails. However, most provinces require harnesses with non shock absorbing lanyards, but work safe BC does not require fall protection in scissor lifts, Ontario on the other hand, requires fall protection in any sort of mobile work platform, regardless of if it’s elevated or not.
@Blairfriesen947 ай бұрын
Not familiar with BC legislation but for Manitoba, the only exception to the harness requirement is if you're not driving the scissor lift. As long as the lift remains stationary, you can go as high as you want without a harness.

As long as you're not doing something stupid (like climbing up onto the guardrails) or leaving the lift while in the air, you shouldn't need fall arrest on a scissor lift. The rails are high enough to prevent you from falling out and there's no articulation (as there is in boom lifts) that could potentially tip you out. Speaking as someone who hits their head about 80% of the time I'm using a lift of any kind, a helmet wouldn't be a bad idea though. Linus is not "comfortable at high altitude"... so he is not a robot! ! ! My dear Linus! Everyone encounters similar circumstances at one time or another and I see that you seem to handle it quite well, as soon as you return to the technique. what a shame that I am so far away, this future center seems rather promising

The access control is a super cool concept. I’m not sure exactly what amenities or programs you’ll have in the building, but the potential is endless. Say I’m playing badminton and decide I want to go play in the VR room. I just hop on the app, purchase access for $12 a month, and it updates my key in real time. Only downside is you’ll always have the biggest challenge in security, people. Not sure how you’re going to prevent someone from just standing by the door until someone leaves and letting themselves in.

Unifi stuff sounds great on paper, but is so bad in practice. You guys must love constantly troubleshooting weird issues and updates that break stuff.

Unifi is all good until you have to do anything advanced / out of the ordinary and then you’re toasted

It's just not the right caliber of gear for a space like that. Ruckus, Cambium, Aruba, Juniper, Cisco, Extreme Networks, Fortinet, EnGenius, Mellanox etc are much more common to see in commercial installs.

They’re just talking about all these experimental features that they’re planning to run in a business, I prefer much more boring business networks Meraki, arista, Aruba, juniper, Palo Alto Just equipment you can set up and expect to just work without intervention.

They really should have hired a contractor to setup the networking and plan it out. Their unifi stuff is okay for homes or the office but if you are doing a large commercial area you need to get people that are really dedicated in that field to give you the best setup you can get. They would be knowledgeable of any potential problems and prevent them from the start, whereas I can see Linus and team encountering issues and making further videos of well this problem happened with our network.

I got basic training in regular fiber splicing at work and I feel like the proper way to do it is faster than those "Fast connect" thingys, especially if they have a high failure rate

minister of IT in my country should watch LTT. Our government's data center just got hacked last week, and they don't have backup. 😂

That's not really just ltt, having and testing backups is standard practice for at least 50 years now

I know this is an older video, but usually they don’t like to put sprinkler heads in data or server rooms. Usually they’ll use some sort of specialty fire suppression. I saw that sprinkler head sitting almost directly over the rack in the small room and all I could think is there’s thousands of gallons of water sitting right above very sensitive electronics.

9:05 Linus, if you have not already, please consider having LMG purchase a fiber optic fusion splicer. I use a Fujikura FSM-80S at work and they are a Godsend compared to fast connects (mechanical splicing). A fusion splicer will also make it much easier to work with fiber in the long term and have an infinitely higher success rate on the splice. Fast connects are to be used in emergencies with a followup plan to replace the fast connect with a fusion splice. 17:18 I went on a scissor lift, and up to its maximum extension to terminate a cat6 cable, for the first time last year and also chose to work on my knees. The platform felt too wobbly when standing but more stable on my knees.
