Wow, this video popped up on my feed at the right time. Everything you said resonates so much with me, especially this idea that has been sold from childhood that the correct path in life is through education and then get a good-paying job. As if that would guarantee happiness. I am 10 years older than you are, with a house and a child, so unfortunately I cannot just pack up my life and move away somewhere on short notice. But I am pursuing content creation as well in order to quit my horrible corporate job one day. Just today I found myself having low motivation to work on my fifth video for my channel, but after watching this video I will get right back at it :D

I have exactly the same mindset and realizations as you! After graduating and finally working, I started to realize that my 9 to 5 job was not making me happy. Yes, I was making money and able to buy stuff with what I earned, I felt exhausted and unfulfilled. I started taking long vacations to poor foreign countries and found out I was more happy living a simple life in those countries. It didn’t take a lot of money and I wasn’t tied down by a 9 to 5 job. Whenever I go back home from these long trips to work again, I became depressed and exhausted again. Every year, I would look forward to my next long trip. But overall, I want that feeling every day of living a fulfilling life. Life is short. We shouldn’t wait until we are retired to explore the world 😅

Two things I've learned. 1) There is no free lunch (i.e. choose your hard), whichever path you take will have consequences, there is no silver bullet. 2) You only get to live one version of your life, you will never know what the "other path" would have been which tells you how fragile life is no matter what, we are extremely mortal.

Thanks the algorithm. I guess I'm around the same age as you and this, all, is what I felt. I'm not someone who's good at expressing myself so thanks for making a video - letting me know I'm not alone and I'm not escaping from the corporate reality. I'm even watching this at my lunch break in my office; one of the banks in Msia lmao. This year has been hard for me, I have been preparing to quit for some time but each time I will say timing is not good & then again, who is to say when is the right time? Given myself a due date and hopefully, take a leap of faith this time 🤝🏻

I was you 12 years ago with my own startup which crashed and burned after 2 years. For the past 10 years now, I have worked as a content creator for a few companies, using my background in advertising agency work. This hasn't worked so well, which is an understatement to what I have experienced. Next month, I'll be doing the reverse -- doing the corporate grind again with big revenue targets. I guess we all have our journeys to take. I wish you the best.

5:20 I have a similar story that haunts me: I saw one of the VIPs at my former job on a fairly regular basis - usually in the elevators. He was sooo excited about retiring, which he did in 2020 during the lockdowns. He moved across country with his wife to begin their new chapter. Sadly, he was unalived during a robbery a few weeks later. 😔 I keep thinking about how he waited alllll those years to retire only to pass away shortly after.😢

I had a similar experience when i first started working (around the same time as you). I realised this was not the life i wanted so i quit and joined a better company that let me work from home and leave work sharp at 5pm. I dont work a minute longer than i must, and my off-times are always respected. You dont have to leave the corporate grind altogether to regain your peace. But i admit i am super lucky to land this kind of job and supportive bosses & healthy culture in the corporate world.

But fate had it that bankers are not needed there, and I wanted to learn welding to be able to switch skills. When came July 2017, Turnbull signed the skills age limit to max 45 from 50, all my hopes and dreams were gone... I can NEVER migrate to Oz anymore... So you please please please live to the fullest your time there. There are thousands of us who would trade for you!

It has become clear to me that career / life planning is completely absent from high school and university core missions. That trajectory you were on was part of the "successful banker/wall street type" script. This is one of the very familiar ones. There are many others. I was just watching a video about a couple in retirement that moved from Texas to Sicily (Italy) and now live very happily on less than $1500 / month for 2 people. They get healthier food, life is slower, and friends are abundant. Makes you think.

what are you gonna do once your working holiday finishes? do you plan to continue content creation full-time?

good question. i think the goal is to continue doing this but will decide after the year is up and see what my options are :) do you think a video on that maybe 6-9 months from now would be useful/interesting?

Just stumbled on your video (must be the algorithm 😂). I can definitely relate, I've come to the same realisation albeit a few years older than you.. although I'm the opposite and am from Melbourne and looking to go to SE Asia ha. Hope you enjoy your time here and get what you're looking for. Lmk if you would like any tips or recommendations 👌

@@TikaGhafar Are you much of a foodie? Have you found any good Malay spots here compared to back home ha!? I spent some time in Bkk/Kl/Jkt back in March-May ish but I'm back in Oz at the moment tying up a few things. 9-5 corporate isn't it, and I dont' think I'm cut out for content creation.. so as for whats planned over there, that's the million dollar question 🤔😅

I need income to create stability, paying of student loan and helping paying my parents hospital bill. no choice . Ive been in the same industry and role for 13 years. No complain. Actually not that bad. Depends on how to balance and prioritize everything in our life.
