The 800m is indeed on fire at the moment. To get three low 1.41 racers (Wanyonyi, Arop and Sedjati) together for the final was incredible. To stand on the start line with Marco Arop (6' 4'') must be intimidating, like David Rudisha and Alberto Juantorena (both 6'3'') who both won gold whilst breaking world records in 2012 and 1976 respectively. Well done Elliot, finishing the season on a massive high when breaking the road race mile world record in Dusseldorf a few days ago.

Never a dull moment with Elliot! I wasn't expecting tales of turmeric or photos of phlegm. Delighted it ended well with an excellent 144.3.

I've been excited about the 800m since Sedjati ran fast in Stockholm DL. I remember saying at the time i don't think the WR will be broken any time soon. I was so stunned when they went sub 1:52 in ParisDL. The WR is definitely on life support but i think you called it ot and we wont see it go until 2025. Will we see you in Brussels? Good luck with the rest of your season.

Congratulations on the mile WR and good luck pacemaking tonight. That'll be interesting. I can't see you as a front runner at all.

Hi Elliot Enjoy seeing an actual elite athlete on youtube being honest about their experiences. Im just very curious how do you manage the peak from post Olympics which is obviously a 4 year peak and then continue racing at such a high level

9:11 There are 5 guys 1:42 guys faster than ben attaoui, Kinyamal, cheminingwa and another dude All of them are basically capable of 1;41
@deano2767113 күн бұрын
The only reason these guys are running 1:41s is because of the 'super spikes' which have been proven to give greater energy return and improve times by between 1 and 1.5%. These were first introduced in 2019, and tended to be more bemneficial to the longer distance events. This year, however, the big shoe companies have introduced specific new super spikes for the 800 and 1500m events. Nike used Hodgkinson and Jakob to help test and refine the design. These shoes propel the athlete forward, allowing greater energy return, longer strides and delays the onset of lactic acid on the second lap. They are basically legal cheating. On top of that you have ever faster tracks (as claimed by the makers themselves, Mondo) and wave light pacing that facilitates the perfect pace requested to the nearest tenth. What we are witnessing is an illusion. You can basically add 1.5 secs to the times achieved this year. Wanyonyi, Arop and Sedjati would be 1:42 high athletes without these technological advances. For 1500m, you can add 2.5secs.

@deano27671 People have run 1:41 in the past even without that advantage. The WR is 1:40. I’m sure quite a few would still run 1:41 even with shoes 10-15 years ago.
