lol, yes, the Gran Turismo tracks are based off of the actual Tokyo highway. And one of the big straights on the Tokyo highway is... the Wangan (or part of the Wangan-sen route, passing by Yokohama), which is where Wangan Midnight gets its name from, which in turn was inspired by actual highway racing in the 80's, mainly by the infamous Mid Night Club (which still exists to this day, and is invite-only membership).

Some info: - Wangan refers to the stretch of highway that goes around the Tokyo bay down south to Yokohama. The word wangan means bay shore. The Gran Tursimo track kinda recreates the vibe of this highway network, but not a 1:1 replica. You can find actual 1:1 replicas in other games like Tokyo Xtreme Racer or Assetto Corsa. - The manga Wangan Midnight was created to loosely tell the story of all the street racing that took place in the 80's on the Tokyo highways, and the name is a reference to the Mid Night Racing Team, a very famous real life street racing team which you took a video of one of their cars at 5:37. And trust me it's really one of their cars because they will harass and vandalize cars of people that put Mid Night stickers without being part of the team. - Vtuber cars (and anime, manga, games, etc) are VERY common. There are events only for them, where you can see thousands. It's called itasha, look it up. - The place where the guy took you is not an event at all. It's just a famous parking lot where people go with their cool cars every day of the year.

It’s such a legendary car which is so rare here in the USA much less the Midwest where American muscle cars are significantly more abundant than Asian tuner style cars, i had never ever seen a Supra until I went to the Piston Power Show at the Cleveland I-X center, so I always get excited seeing videos like this and honestly just hope to be able to afford to go to Japan and be comfortable during the trip (I have motion anxiety so I’ve never ridden in a plane). As a young man in the late 80s and 90s, we would have the same thing in Chicago. We called it The Incinerators. Now, one was the original with a quarter mile strip. It was located on the west side of Chicago. In an industrial park that contained the aforementioned incinerator. The second was nowhere near it but dubbed the same for lack of creativity. I'm guessing. Both had quarter mile strips. All types of cars people would gather around booze, weed, and what have you. Loud music. There were plenty of accidents. But it was what it was. A place for the youth to gather and mingle and show themselves off be it by their clothes dancing loud music and alas yes their super cars. 😊

the gran turismo road is actually.... real. there are few different tracks, but all of them can be overlapped with tokyo highway. In particular, i think the shutoko expressway is a loop you can do by car (just taking the correct exit), while some other track involve U-turn corner that would possible only if the expressway was close to traffic.

Awesome vid! And some pretty dope edits (and music) with the cruising around. ^_^ So when's the channel rebrand debuting? Can't wait for AkiDrifts! xD But seriously, there's a few places in Japan that offer lessons you could try out when it's warmer (i remember Joey, Connor, and... Garnt? went to one a few years ago). It's a wild experience! ^_^ Definitely check out some of the Itasha scenes. Some people get absolutely WILD with body wraps on their cars. Then there's also Bosozoku (for the laymen, think 'taking "Riced out" to the extreme', and you'll have some idea of what to expect). 3:55 I've heard conflicting stories about the Shibuya Crossing scene. Some say Lin went against the Government when they couldn't secure permits to do the scene. Others say it was recreated with all the different elements being spliced together while having it done 'safely' (and legally). I haven't played a GT since.. 2, on the PSX (I ended up going more NFS and eventually Forza). But I know the level of detail they put into their games. I would not be surprised if the Tokyo Highway in it is as close to a 1/1 for scale of the real thing as they could get.
