I prefer Veterans over Evocati, its 40 less for 2 wep dmg and 5 armor, 40 isn't much but when you stack it 6 times thats 240 which can be used towards other units, my prefered Rome comp is 6 vets, 3 hastati, 4 ranged (Syrian archers and Bealaric slings), 2 Praetorian cav, and a then a general and an Equites. A smaller but quality army with an exact cost of 11700.

In my last campaign as Syracuse I used a mod which let recruit Samnites amongst many other units. Damn, those guys are really strong, even playing in Very Hard. When I managed to make them really veteran they were just my elite reliable troops. I like the unit so much. Playing as Carthage I really like Scutarii and Samnites as the core of the army.

I feel like the kartli axemen were underrated. I play as Colchis and Armenia often, and they almost always will beat thorax and if used properly, can hold their own for a while against sword followers. The Kartli spam is deadly

I think axe units in general are underrated. Theyre really good at weakening elite units, trading pretty cost effectively with them. Played a lot of gatae and mercanery axe warriors often suprised me.

I think you underestimate the classic roman legionaires, they beat most other mid tiers with ease, and they have almost no weaknesses. I would have put them at the bottom of strong.

I had some that were rank 4 or 5, they had tier 2 weapons and tier 1 armour and they held their own against my friend's Praetorian Guard (rank 0, iter 1 armour and weapons).

Nice tier list, this is pretty much How I would rank the units as well. It’s really sad how almost all hoplites and pike units are on bottom tier. I think without thureos spears, most Greek factions would almost unplayable in pvp.

you want to combo them with shock cav, spear wont kill anything (except for cav), but they're able to hold out for a much longer time than sword, which mean that if you have cav superiority, u'll always win (which is also why greek factions had good shock cavs to begin with, contrary to the roman - where the killing is done by the infantry, while their melee cav will draw out the cav fight)

You are correct but Here is the problem, they don’t have mid tier shock cav, only the elite ones, which is huge bummer. Spartan don’t even have any shock cav. I don’t consider successor states as Greek factions tho because they have a mixture of different cultural units which make them really strong factions.

I had so much fun from suebi spear wall in sieges, when you put them in best defensive position and they fight almost all enemy's army slowly but steady killing their morale. And when you flank this enemy horde... priceless.

So normally as rome i would aim to vassal sparta. Levie 6 spartan hoplites. And then wreck havoc in germania. Their troops just take forever to get through spartan hoplites. That my flanks just have forever to cycle charge. Gone through many playthroughs where i would keep lossing sword/horse flanking units and replace them with local units. But never have to replace my spartan hoplits. I think your list is heavily screwed towards the units ability to kill and survivability to ranged. In terms of holding power spartan hoplite in hoplite formation is probably one pf if not the best

leviulysses here - Pontic swords are my fave. I will outrun almost everyone’s inf, and win in melee vs everyone I can’t outrun except swrd followers. U can bring 20 on large funds and simply overwhelm everyone with these sessy blue white uniforms. If you can’t wreck with Pontic swords, ur probably not wrecking anyone ever.

evocati and veteran legionaries are best mid tiers indeed along with sword followers , tribals and galatian legionaries . massalian hoplites and spartan hoplites deserve to be one tier higher , while thorax hoplites are most cost effective spear unit in the game perhaps .

honestly, I never played desert kingdoms before, since I'm Persian and we are literally taught about sassanids and Parthia, i usually play Persian factions like those and Pontus. however I started liking mesaesyli and I like the fact that they don't have elite units and they have testudo. I hate Rome. I hate op things in life hence I don't play it. I started liking Kush but they don't offer much in mid tier. also boii and Galatia are not as good as you might think.

i think you are undersealing the heavy pike men a littel bit here they can be very effective with shock cavalry if you use the hammer and anvil tactic but overall yes pike men are easy to counter and you have to have swordsman or hoplites on there flanks i really don't think that is big deal but i do agree that there are far better units especially in multiplayer, i think heavy pike's are a bit underated.

glatian swords, better celtic warrior. Illyrian thureos spear and levy thureos spear, both are drirt cheap with 5 javelins. lybian hoplite, 300 gold for 80 armor and top tier anti cav. karian axemen, axemen with 5 javelin. There are a few more if i remember correctly.

@@TheBikeOnTheMoon this comment was more of a joke than anything But when it comes to karian, i would argue that they are just good at being a cheap way for a general so you can buy better inf, other than that levy thureos is a better option in every way When it comes to lybian they are amazing at being meatshield for missile cavalry But will die to every shock cav if not in hoplite wall The other ones would probably be iberian swords for both carthage and iberians Club levy and maybe numidian light inf, not so sure about that one And kushite slave inf

The only one I don't agree with is Spartan Hoplites because they can beat thorax swords in 1v1. I also have an overpowered strat for Samnite warriors where you put max chevrons on them.

Are you using this list for field battle? If you play siege, people use pikes all the time, they are great as last ditch defense and attack

Pikes are Used a lot in the old days and meta when u use them Now they will always get shot or Pelted

If you do good with archer fights, suprise them with cavs sally out and kill them or shield your pikes with infantries good enough so that they don't get much damage from range, your end game pikes will be unstopable

I don't understand how you can put the Desert Legionaries for masaesyli in Strong but the Regular Legionaries for Rome n decent. The regular Legionaries are the exact same unit but cost 660 whereas the desert Legionaries cost 700. Also, Tribals do not beat Galatian Legionaries. They just don't. Tribals beat them in terms of cost efficiency but in a straight up 1v1 they do not. Think you missed several units for the video as well, the guerilla warriors for nervii and chosen spearmen for arverni Why are the Massilian hoplites in decent? They are not decent. They're a pile of shit, especially for their price. You're paying 210 more for a unit that has, Encourage, 2 more attack but 2 less defence than a thorax hoplite. Compare it to the other 2 hoplites similar to its price ie the colchian nnobles anderc veterans.
